Find out how to create secret Pinterest boards: How to Create a Secret Pinterest Board in 3 Easy Steps
____________________________________
Pinterest is about sharing images, but it’s not all about sharing images. Pinterest can be a very effective tool to keep information organized, sometimes away from the prying eyes of others.
When you’re researching projects on the Internet, how do you save your favorite sites, interesting articles, or ideas for inspiration? You could bookmark each site, but your bookmarks could quickly become overwhelming. Finding the bookmark you want when you need it could take more time than searching for the site all over again.
Instead of relying on bookmarks, you can use Pinterest to refer back to your favorite sites. But just as you may not want the world to know your every bookmark, you may not want the world to know your every pin on Pinterest.
By using secret Pinterest boards you can keep your pins private, helping you make the most of Pinterest.
As of March 2014, Pinterest now allows you to have an unlimited number of secret boards so you can take all of these ideas for secret Pinterest boards and use them without worrying about others discovering your pins.

Hi Carolyn,
Those are such wonderful inspirational ideas ๐
When I read your earlier post on the secret boards, I was wondering as to what people would share on those. But one of my cousins added me to her secret board and I saw so many wonderful family pictures there, while another one from there shared her wedding ones – it just carried on for hours!
You are absolutely right – there is no limit to the amount you can share on Pinterest, and such secret boards can become really great places to share some things you only want to share with a handful of people too. I think I better take out some time and create one as well now ๐
Thanks for sharing. Have a nice week ahead ๐

Hi Harleena, Excellent point. Sharing family photos is another great idea for secret Pinterest board. You can share photos with family members and they can pin their photos to the secret board as well. That way everyone in the family can share photos without showing those photos to the world.
My most active secret board is for article ideas. As I’m reading the latest tech news, I will get ideas for future articles for The Wonder of Tech. As I’m researching these ideas, I can pin articles to my secret board so I can find those articles easily when I’m ready to write. I can also pin images so I don’t have to hunt for them later.

Hi Mahendra, Yes, creating a secret Pinterest board is easy but sometimes we need inspiration to use our secret boards effectively. I hope these ideas help inspire you to create some of your own secret boards on Pinterest, Mahendra!

Wow!! that is such an informative post! Honestly, I didn’t know all that! Thank you Carolyn.
I just stumbled upon your blog through twitter ๐ …still trying to browse it.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Balroop, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! So glad to have you here from Twitter. I hope you enjoy exploring The Wonder of Tech.
Ashley Faulkes says
Great list Caroline
Kinda reminds me a little of the content I have for an upcoming post on Twitter lists! You can keep those secret too.
It is not something I have been using, but I think with all these ideas, I might just start using Pinterest for private stuff too!
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Ashley, Yes, secret Pinterest boards can be very handy, especially for bloggers. As you research your article on Twitter lists, you can pin useful websites to a secret board for blog research.
I look forward to your post on Twitter lists, Ashley!
Laura-Lee Walker says
This is an interesting article. I didn’t know about secret boards on Pinterest until now. And, as a private investigator, a secret board might be useful for some projects that involve taking images of a subject’s house and neighbourhood prior to conducting surveillance. Other investigators on the case would be able to access the images.
Thank you for sharing!
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Laura-Lee, You’re right, private investigators could make great use of secret Pinterest boards. You can pin images as you conduct your investigations and then share them with clients when you’re ready to report your findings. With Pinterest now allowing up to six secret boards, you will have much more opportunity to use Pinterest for your business now.
James says
Great ideas thanks, I never thought to use Pinterest in this way. Will prove useful when house hunting next year!
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi James, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! Yes, secret boards can be very useful when house hunting. Realty sites have caught on to this now and often include Pin It buttons on their listings. You can make a secret board to pin listings you’re interested in to find them quickly and compare them without anyone knowing you’re shopping for houses.
Mike Maynard says
Hi Carolyn,
I’ll have to check this out. I might be able to use it for research. I have a lot of bookmarks all in different folders and often have to delete the older ones. I struggled to get good light for my photo competition. Now I have entered it and sent my photos, it seems to be sunny every day! I photographed a charity event last night. It went quite well apart from a few shots when I didn’t notice a mirror in the background causing lens flares! I need to take more shots next time, but indoors with a flash can be difficult. I shall be doing lots of events this year, I hope. The narrow-boat gala on the canal, the carnival, the party in the park; I’m building a list! I shall be doing art too…
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Mike, As a photographer, you could create secret Pinterest boards to compile photos for one of your competitions, then make the boards public to ask people’s opinions of which one they think you should submit. I hope many people are able to discover your artistry through Pinterest, Mike!
Abell says
Hello Carolyn Nicander,
Well, I also discovered that the proper use of creative and eye catching photos with interesting content are imperative to get the maximum number of fans on Pinterest.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Very true, Abell. Secret boards won’t get you more Pinterest followers. Not even one. But you can use secret Pinterest boards to help organize images, websites and other information you find around the Internet without anyone else seeing them.
