Bintang F says
Wow, i even don’t know India vs South Africa in number 1 of overall search terms 😀 And i’m glad my favourite ever, Game of Thrones and Stranger Things on popular tv show search 2019…
Carolyn, did you watch the last season of Game of Thrones?
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Bintang, Yes, Google Trends can show you the top search terms in countries around the world, as well as globally. Comparing the top search terms for different countries can be fascinating.
I did watch the last season of Game of Thrones, though I was deeply disappointed by the final two episodes.
Bintang Fisabilly says
Yeah, for some reason, episode 5 and 6 are quite disappointing. But actually i’m on satisfied side. I like the ending. Although still, the writing is very bad. However, i’m glad i grew up with the series 🙂
Valar Morghulis!
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
I loved the series too, but I wish the ending were better. I found the last two episodes of the series hard to comprehend based on the rest of the series.
Valar Dohaeris!
Aleksi Halsas says
This was quite interesting. It seems from doing a bit of googling the India vs South Africa search term is related to Cricket. Not sure if am correct with this, but anycase it is quite interesting to see actually that I have missed most of the big things that have been the biggest search terms during the year completely.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Aleksi, Yes, it’s interesting that a cricket match would have trended so highly. Perhaps that’s because people were curious about it and wanted more information, as opposed to a more popular sport such as football.
Rick Rys says
It’s fascinating how transparent Google is with the data they harvest and share and yet it only makes them more successful by promoting the use of Google search.
Brilliant!
Thanks for posting…
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Rick, Good points. Yes, Google Trends can even generate more searches as people become more curious about search terms that are trending and want to learn more about them.
Steve says
Trying to keep up with Google and its changes can be hard. But things like Google Trends and top Google searches can be helpful
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Steve, Yes, Google Trends can help us keep up not only with Google, but with the world around us.
Michał Krawczykowski says
For me the most suprising topic is “What is Area 51”. I’ve always thought everyone knows what this is, maybe because my friends are a bit geeky and are interesting in such things 😉
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Michal, Yes, many of the search terms were surprising and the absence of some search terms were surprising too. I hope you enjoyed reviewing these top search terms for last year.
Anthony says
Wow, very interesting about Google trend. I just wondering what type of information people are looking for when they’re searching for India vs South Africa. I have heard about Game of Throne but not watching it yet.
Good work Carolyn
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Anthony, Great question. I’m wondering whether Google Trends searches feed on themselves. A search term trends high then more people search for it to find out why. India vs. South Africa was a cricket match that must have been quite important, or quite curious, to many people.
Game of Thrones is a powerful series. The stories can be quite gory so they’re not for everyone, but the final season certainly made an impact on 2019.
Mandar Vasant Joglekar says
I went through all the searches and it kind of helped me to relive many moments in the last year, especially films and TV!!! I wonder why India Vs South Africa is a trending search though!!!
Thanks for your blog!
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Mandar, Yes, by reviewing Google Search trends for the past year you can be reminded of what happened in the world and how these events affected you personally.
I believe India vs. South Africa was a big cricket match, but maybe the fact that the term wasn’t common knowledge around the world made people search for it even more!
Reuben says
I always enjoy looking at the Google Trends. One of the smaller trends that could affect my company in the future is the increase in searching for “eco-friendly [keyword], or “ethically sourced [keyword]”. I’m not sure what qualifies for eco-friendly but we definitely qualify for being ethically sourced.
Thanks for the article and looking forward to future posts.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Reuben, Great idea to use Google Trends to get ideas for keywords for your business. You can get inspiration for the top trends and see what people are interested in.
Abhishek says
India vs South Africa is my favorite match of all time!! I don’t believe that it is also in the top searches!
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Abhishek, Very cool that your favorite match of all time was one of the top searches of 2019. Perhaps you were one of the searchers who helped it reach the top of the chart!
