Haunted Halloween Escape

Haunted Halloween Escape is a fun game that traps you in a haunted mansion. Solve the mysteries to exit each room and escape to freedom. Find hidden bats to increase your score. Part puzzle app, part hidden pictures game, this app will keep you busy long after your Halloween candy is gone.

Angry Zombies Rumble

If you’re more angry at zombies than birds, check out Angry Zombies Rumble, a free game that will help you work out your zombie aggressions. Similar to Angry Birds, Angry Zombies Rumble has you bending the laws of physics to destroy structures, blow up explosives and pummel objects to put an end to the infected scourge on our planet.

Tech Tricks and Treats for Your Neighborhood

NextDoor Halloween Treat Map

This Halloween tech brings a trick, maximizing your candy potential, and a treat, getting to know your neighbors better. Halloween not only provides an opportunity for kids to get treats but for adults to have fun too. While kids are busy trick or treating and gathering goodies, neighbors can become better acquainted with each other. According to a recent survey conducted by nextdoor.com, “1 in 4 parents who take their children (aged 17 and younger) trick-or-treating have met new neighbors for the first time on Halloween.”

Nextdoor.com is a service designed to bring neighborhoods together. Neighborhoods can create their own private social networks on this website to interact with each other and connect online to enhance their real world relationships.

For Halloween, nextdoor.com offers a Halloween Treat Map so neighbors can mark on a map whether they will be giving out Halloween candy this year. If you’re planning your trick or treat route, you can save time by checking your neighborhood’s Treat Map to plan the optimal candy route.

Scary Movies

Netflix

Scary movies are fun any time of year but they’re even more enjoyable for Halloween. Stream scary flicks using Netflix. Check out IMDB‘s list of Best Horror Movies on Netflix – Halloween 2013 Edition! for ideas on what to watch.

Roku

Also check out A Very Roku Halloween for more spooky fun. This free channel for your Roku contains everything from Disney shorts to pumpkin recipes plus plenty of horror films.

Enjoy the sounds of the season as well as narrated programs to give you chills and thrills:

SiriusXM Satellite Radio

SiriusXM Halloween ChannelSiriusXM has devoted a channel to Halloween scary sounds until November 1 at 3 am ET. Check out Channel 143 for “spooky sounds, ghost stories and ghoulish fun.”

SiriusXM will be airing the classic performance of “The War of the Worlds” narrated by Orson Welles. The original broadcast 75 years ago caused widespread panic when many listeners actually believed that Martians had landed in Grovers Mill, NJ, and the United States was under attack. “The War of the Worlds” will air on Wednesday, October 30 at 8:00 pm ET on SiriusXM Radio Classics Channel 82. The performance will be rebroadcast on Halloween at 10:00 pm ET and Friday, November 1 at midnight, ET.

Immediately following the broadcast of “The War of the Worlds,” SiriusXM will air “War of the Welles,” a new audio documentary exploring Orson Welles and the original 1938 “War of the Worlds” radio broadcast in honor of the 75th anniversary of the broadcast. “War of the Welles” discusses the achievement by Orson Welles and the Mercury Theatre in creating “The War of the Worlds.” This documentary by R.H. Green is introduced by George Takei and is a production of John Rabe for Southern California Public Radio.

    Trust you to come up with such a lovely post 🙂

    As you know, we don’t really celebrate Halloween our end, but it’s something my kid’s have always enjoyed, though now they aren’t much into it because of their studies. Nevertheless, these apps are surely going to keep them entertained, which I shall soon forward them.

    I honestly didn’t know there were SO many apps and games – all dedicated to Halloween, and why not, as it’s the second most important festival celebrated after Christmas, which again I got to know recently when I was writing my Halloween post. Must be so much of fun at your end, if you all celebrate it as much. As per me, I enjoy the horror movies once in a while, but my kid’s prefer the games and might watch them with me through their closed eyes 😉

    Not that I have the time to play or watch scary movies but the first one looks like fun. I love a good puzzle and mystery along the way. Huh, I’m almost tempted to download it anyway and before I go to bed maybe play a little. It just looks like fun.

    Though we here in India don’t celebrate Halloween festival ..i’m gonna watch two of my favorite horror movies The Ring and Texas Chain Saw Massacre on the eve of Halloween 😀 and talking about the apps , Angry Zombies Rumble sounds an interesting game and the graphics look clean and good too . I’ll be downloading the game . Thanks for sharing the details .

      Hi Ryan, Yes, I was thinking that a future generation of the neighborhood treat map could show which treats are being given at each house. If you’re a Twix fan you could make sure to visit houses giving out those treats first, for example. But that would cut down on the very fun tradition of trading Halloween candy with others so everyone can get their favorites.

    Trick or treating doesn’t happen so much over here in the UK but my kids have been invited to a Halloween party.

    My son’s going to dress up as a vampire and my daughter as a witch!

    I’m not sure whether they’ll be any spooky apps at the party. Maybe I’ll download a couple and take them along.

    I’m not much for getting scared on Halloween. (We don’t even get any trick-or-treaters here in the country!) But I do love that old song Monster Mash! Thanks for reminding me of it!
