Very useful information. I have been too lazy to research the required size for my Twitter background image. I hope I will finally get all my social media profile images updated, now that you have made it so easy to find all dimensions. Thanks for the infographic.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Churchill, Don’t be too hard on yourself. Each social media website has its own dimensions and we can understand the reader’s frustration, wishing that the sites could all use the same sized for their image requirements.
But they don’t so this infographic can be a quick reference guide so we don’t have to hunt down the different dimensions for the different sites.
Have fun updating your social media profiles, Churchill!
Summer says
omg this infographic is so incredibly useful! We have spent waaayy too long looking up these dimensions every time we update our cover photos … and we’re pretty much on all of the social networks listed here!! I especially like the dimensions for images within timelines, optimizing those sizes is key to making sure you are putting your photo in the best light possible. An image can really affect the visibility of your post on social networks. I’ve passed this on to our team and am tweeting it to everyone. Thanks Carolyn!
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Summer, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! You’re exactly right, an image can make a huge difference on social media accounts. When you get a friend invitation from someone without a profile picture, you don’t know whether to trust that account really is from that person. By taking a few minutes to add a picture, you can really make the most of your account.
I’m so glad you found this helpful. Thanks for letting us know and for sharing this article, Summer!

Hi David, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! Yes, between this infographic and my previous article on how to resize images in 3 easy steps, people should have the tools they need to update their social media profiles!
Tim Bonner says
Hi Carolyn
I struggled with the Google+ image for a long time and gave up in the end.
I never bothered with a LinkedIn image either.
Now though, I’m going to go and revisit them because I know the correct dimensions.
I’m wondering how often we should change the images on social media sites?
I see some people changing theirs every few weeks or months.
I don’t think I’ve changed mine since I loaded them on Twitter and Facebook for the first time a few months ago.
What do you think?
Have a great weekend Carolyn!
Tim
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Tim, You’re not alone. I think many people struggle with finding out the right size of images and with having to resize them. I hope after this week these issues are less challenging for people!
Yes, you should revisit these sites to add images. Especially LinkedIN, which may be the first time many people discover you.
How often you should change your images is a matter of opinion. My teenage daughters change theirs several times a week while some businesses keep theirs constant as a brand message. I would say changing your image is like posting an article on your blog: do it when you have something you want to convey.
Jens P. Berget says
I don’t design anything myself, but close to every single time that I’m going to publish a picture on Facebook or add a new profile image or a cover image, I need to use Google to find the right sizes. Now, I’ll just bookmark your post Carolyn ๐
Thank you.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Jens, Yes, these sites do make it tricky to change your photos and it can be challenging to find the most current dimension requirements.
Thanks for bookmarking this post, Jens. The infographic is embedded and the creator has promised to keep it current with updates when dimensions change.
Vicky says
Hello,
WOW, Just wonderful and informative post. Yeah you are right every social media account has different sizes which is really annoying to change according to their size and sometime it will look bad.
The tips are really informative, and very thank you to compile everything in one place!
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Vicky, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! Great point. We can be very excited to upload a new picture to social media, only to discover that the size is wrong. Compounding our disappointment is the difficulty in determining what the right size should be.
I’m so glad you were helped by this article, Vicky. Thanks for taking the time to comment!

Darkan Novik says
Wow – thanks a lot for that. It is great to have everything in one place, even dimensions that I didn’t care about previously. I think it will be extremely time saving when preparing graphs at one time with all necessary dimensions, then reshaping them everytime when sth is posted on another social media website.
Once again, thank’s a lot and best regards!
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says

Sylviane Nuccio says
Hi Carolyn,
Boy I’ve struggled at times to figure out what type of dimension those social media sites want, and as mentioned in your post they are all different from one another on top of it ๐
I’m still having troubles with Google+ and Facebook, as a matter of fact, but I’m going to have a header made for my fan page eventually.
Thank you for the very helpful infographic.
Have a great before Christmas week!
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Sylviane, Yes, when the reader asked this question, they did everyone a favor by inspiring this article topic. Anyone who uses social media needs this information so it’s handy to have the dimensions all in one place.
You’re right, it’s time-consuming enough to choose the right photo, then edit and resize it. If we can save time and frustration by having the dimensions readily available, then that’s one less thing we have to worry about! :-bd
Adrienne says
That is just the most super duper post ever Carolyn and thank you so much for sharing this infographic and the sizes. I have a bookmark post of the Facebook timeline and all those image sizes because I don’t size them enough to remember what they are.
I had to go and look up the Twitter one too. I haven’t gotten to my YouTube channel yet but I would be searching for that one next.
Thank you so very much for sharing this with us and put these all in one very convenient location. You’re a lifesaver.
~Adrienne
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Adrienne, Yes, I don’t know of anyone who changes their photos so often that they have all of these dimensions memorized. Even if you did, the dimensions can change so you still should check on the dimensions before uploading a new photo. This infographic is embedded and the creator has promised to keep it updated and current so you can always come back to this article to check on the dimensions you need for your photos.
I’m so glad this article was helpful to you, Adrienne. Enjoy updating your photos!
