Your 5 Best Sites for Healthy and Tasty Recipes

The estimated reading time for this post is 5 minutes

You may think healthy eating involves ingesting food that tastes about as good as the last print book you read. But finding healthy recipes that you actually want to eat doesn’t have to be a challenge.

Healthy and Tasty Recipe Sites

If your New Year’s resolutions are still going strong, you’ve probably been:

  • exercising doing the 7 Minute Workout
  • keeping track of your calories with My Fitness Pal
  • monitoring your activity with FitBit Zip

and starting to reap the rewards by now. You’re feeling better, you have more energy and your jeans might be a bit less snug.

An important part of achieving your fitness goals is eating healthy and once again tech can help. In the olden days you might have run to the bookstore to load up on healthy cooking cookbooks. Now you have a treasure trove of websites with healthy recipe ideas, complete with instructions, photos, videos and reviews.

Many of these websites feature seasonal recipes, such as healthy Super Bowl snacks for the Big Game this weekend or recipes based on the produce that’s in season. With some websites you can search by ingredients, nutritional values, preparation time and calorie counts.

Here are my favorite websites for healthy recipes:

Pinterest

Healthy Recipe Pinterest Boards

For inspiration, check out these healthy recipe Pinterest boards:

Skinny Superfood Recipes by SELF Magazine with recipes using healthy and nutritious ingredients. Don’t miss the Apple Pie Smoothie recipe pin!

Pinterest Healthy Recipes Smoothies

Find healthy salads at crave: salads by All Ebright (Gimme Some Oven). Check out this Chicken, Avocado and Goat Cheese salad on the board.

Pinterest Salad Recipes

If you want to find vegetarian and vegan recipes, don’t miss the Vegetarian/Vegan board by the delightfully named Pinch of Yum.Even if you’re not a vegetarian you may want to try this Crispy Buffalo Style Quinoa Sliders with Sweet Corn + Scallions recipe:

Pinterest Vegetarian/Vegan recipe board

Searching for Recipes on Pinterest

You can search for recipes on Pinterest using search terms such as the ingredients, healthy recipes, and other keywords. You can search all of Pinterest or just your pins if you’re trying to find a favorite recipe you pinned earlier.

Pinterest also lets you filter your search results. You can search by pins, boards or pinners. If you search by pins, you can refine your search to include:

  • All recipes
  • Vegetarian
  • Vegan
  • Gluten free
  • Paleo
  • Indulge me

Be mindful when you see your search results that the pinner’s definition of “healthy” and yours may be quite different. I uncovered a Death by Chocolate recipe listed as healthy, though the ingredients list looked as if it were designed for those who were striving for decadence instead of health.

Organize Your Healthy Recipes

Pinterest is not only a favorite source for recipes, it’s also a super way to organize the recipes you find. Create a board for Healthy Recipes and pin what you find around the Web. If you cook a lot you may want to create separate boards based on ingredients, meals, holidays and more.

Other Healthy Recipe Websites

Food Network

The Food Network website has a special section for healthy recipes called Healthy Eating. Check out the Quick and Simple page for healthy dinners in 40 minutes or less. The site is filled with recipes, videos and tips from top chefs.

Don’t miss 10 Healthy Dinners for $10 for ideas on how you can eat healthy without breaking the bank.

Epicurious

Epicurious has been one of my favorite recipe sites for years. What makes Epicurious special is the ratings of recipes by users and the reviews. Users add their tips and tricks to enhance the recipes. You can make the recipes as written or enhance the recipes with suggestions from users.

You can search for healthy recipes or check out the Epicurious Healthy Recipes page. This page has loads of highly rated recipes and menus. You can filter by meal, kid-friendly, and vegetarian.

Don’t miss this Citrus Salad with Fennel Vinaigrette by from Bon Appetit.

Epicurious Citrus Salad Recipe

Cooking Light

In spite of its name, the Cooking Light website has plenty of recipes that would seem to satisfy a hungry appetite. For the upcoming Super Bowl, this site has a section for hearty recipes such as Bacon and Cheddar Sliders, Poblano Turkey Sausage Chili and Oven Barbecue Beer-Can Chicken.

The recipe for Peanut Butter and Dark Chocolate Fudge seems particularly tempting…

Cooking Light Fudge

Eating Well

Eating Well is an online magazine site filled with tips about healthy foods. In fact, their motto is “Where Good Taste Meets Good Health.” You can find helpful blog articles about how to make healthy food choices, such as 5 Ways to Host a Healthy Super Bowl Party.

You can also find recipes, food news, a menu planner and videos such as Make-Ahead Casserole Recipes for ideas on healthy recipes that are convenient to make.

Your Thoughts

Do you try to eat healthy? Do you use websites for recipe ideas? Which recipe websites do you use? Have you ever discovered a new favorite recipe using the web? Did this article make you hungry? Let us know in the Comments section below!

Enjoy the Super Bowl with the Pros

Even if you’re not sitting next to an NFL pro during the Super Bowl, you can still get an insider’s glimpse of the game. Two of my favorite tech tools are offering you the opportunity to chat with NFL players this weekend.

Hang w/

Julius Thomas, a tight end for the Denver Broncos, has joined Hang w/ and will be broadcasting from New York this weekend as he prepares for the big game. According to Hang w/, Thomas “plans to share his experiences in New York, the excitement of the Super Bowl and the preparation he undergoes with fans via the Hang w/ live streaming platform.”

Hang w/

You can find out more about Hang w/, including how to join in the fun, at Hang w/ โ€“ Who Knew the World Was This Much Fun?

Viggle

Get ready for the game by chatting with NFL Hall of Famer Dan Marino in a Twitter chat sponsored by Viggle. You can start submitting your questions for Marino to @Viggle. If Marino answers your question during the chat you’ll receive an extra 5000 Viggle points.

Viggle TV App

The chat is tonight between 5:30-6:00 ET using the hashtag #ViggleMarino. You can find out more about Viggle from Viggle โ€“ Your Best Excuse to Be a TV Fan!

Enjoy the game!

    Hi Carolyn,

It’s the first day of the Chinese Spring Festival today, otherwise known as Chinese New Year. Lots of stores in the UK have put Chinese stir fry sauces on special for today. I always check the BBC site for recipes! I experiment a lot with cooking though. I watched a cook at a noodle bar not long ago glazing food with soy sauce. I had to try that! Also this weekend it’s Groundhog Day; that movie is 21 years old now. That’s the same every year though and so not really worth celebrating… ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Mike, Happy Year of the Horse! Great idea to celebrate by finding new recipes. I’ve never checked the BBC website for recipes, I will have to check that out.

And happy Groundhog Day to you too. This year the Super Bowl falls on that day so plenty of people will be celebrating in the US! =D>

Hi Balroop, I’m so glad you like these sites too. Each one has loads of salads, you will love looking through them. If I wanted to, I could have made this entire article about salads, I love them too!

But too many people think of only salads when they think of healthy eating so I wanted to show readers that these websites offer a wide variety of healthy foods.

I hope you find many salads you enjoy, Balroop!

Hi Mahendra, You are so right. Health is so very important and what we eat is a major factor in how healthy we are. There’s a saying in tech: Garbage in, garbage out. The same applies to eating.

I hope you find many healthy recipes you enjoy, Mahendra!

Yummy Carolyn because I’m in the process starting this week of taking my holiday weight off. Yeah, I got a little carried away this year but that’s because Mom had so much to munch on and then my neighbor gave us this delicious pie. Then we celebrated Christmas twice plus I was down in the dumps missing Scott so that didn’t help me much since I like to rid my thoughts with delicious food.

Some of these look really good so I’ll be checking these out and making a few of these later one. Yummy!

    ~Adrienne

I created this site to store all of our favorite and most used recipes, and so that my daughter always has access to the recipes. We cook real food almost every night. The majority of our recipes take under 30 minutes to table. These are real recipes. Not some corporate site.

    Enjoy!
