iPledge Challenge – Women Against Abuse
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and you can help spread the word by taking the iPledge Challenge, started by the non-profit group, Women Against Abuse. From the organization:
“Women Against Abuseβs iPledge Challenge encourages community members to post a βselfieβ to Facebook and/or Twitter with their motivation for taking Women Against Abuseβs pledge against violence, using the hashtag #iPledgeBecause, and then to challenge their friends and family to follow suit. The iPledge Challenge has garnered hundreds of pledges since it began in September, and has served as a powerful local rally cry for the national conversation around domestic violence.”
The Challenge will kick off in Philadelphia with a press conference sponsored by Verizon and Health Partners Plans on October 3 at noon at LOVE Park with the 7th Annual iPledge Press Conference. NBC10 Meteorologist Bill Henley will emcee the event, and keynote speaker Deputy Mayor Everett Gillison will take the iPledge Challenge.
The Liberian Womenβs Chorus for Change will perform songs to inspire dialogue around violence against women. The event will conclude with a community pledge against domestic violence, led by Pennsylvania State Senator Vincent Hughes.
You can find out more about the iPledge campaign at the Women Against Abuse website.

Hi Carolyn,
Although we don’t celebrate Halloween our end the way it’s celebrated in the US and other places, we do crate a little hype about it on our blog. π
How could we not, especially when we are on Pinterest! You are right – there are SO many boards and a few pending invitations to boards, mainly the DIY and costumes ones that I still need time over the weekend to go through them all.
You selected some nice ones that I’d be checking out and some seem like good ideas for the costumes most kids, teens, and young adults are on the look out for. Surely needs to be shared and pinned.
Yes, October is Domestic Violence month and time to create awareness about it too, good reminder, though I do write a post on it, just as I did last year. Would be checking out the site link you mentioned in a while too.
Thanks for sharing. Have a nice week ahead π

Hi Harleena, Yes, Halloween is mostly a children’s holiday here in the US but plenty of adults will celebrate too. Our neighborhood has an adult Halloween party every year and we all dress up in costumes!
Halloween is one holiday that’s just about fun so it’s a wonderful tradition that can bring communities together.
Yes, i remember your wonderful and important article last year, Harleena. I used to volunteer in a battered women’s shelter so this cause is very near and dear to my heart.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for sharing this article, Harleena!

Hi Carolyn,
Great images and ideas. I haven’t thought much about Halloween. I’ll try to take some Halloween pictures! I did some spooky pictures last year. I photographed Acoustic Alliance this week, so I’ll be interested to see what you make of those pictures. I’m hoping to get them in the local newspaper. I’m an official newspaper blogger now! π
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Mike, Yes, your photographs do such a great job of conveying a mood that I bet you take excellent photos for Halloween!
Congratulations on being a newspaper blogger, Mike. I wish you much continued success!

Hi Carolyn,
Hmmm.. Halloween… I have read all about it… Saw few movies too… I find it very interesting as you need to look scary so that people will award you with a gift… π
Sounds like awesome fun…
You haven’t uploaded your Halloween Look Carolyn… π π π
Regards…
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Karmakar, Yes, dressing up in a costume is a lot of fun, and it’s even more fun when your efforts are rewarded with treats! The costumes don’t need to be scary, though plenty are.
I have ordered my costume and hope to get it soon. My costume is very scary for those who fear dragons… π

Hi Carolyn
I’d not thought of Pinterest to look for Halloween inspiration but it makes sense!
We don’t celebrate it in any big way but usually have a spooky party for the kids. They’re looking forward to it as well as the fireworks on Bonfire night.

Hi Carolyn,
Pinterest is awesome for ideas! I use it a lot for recipes, but also when I had my daughter’s wedding shower I actually created the whole thing from ideas I got from Pinterest.
But holidays are when we look for ideas the most and Pinterest is my first go to spot. For some reason I’m really looking forward to this Halloween. Probably because I have a grand daughter now and I can’t wait to share it with her π Of course Pinterest is at the top of my list for ideas.
Thanks for the insight Carolyn and have an awesome rest of the week.
Blessings,
Liz
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Liz,
That’s a great idea to use Pinterest to plan a shower. I’m using it now to plan my twins’ Sweet 16 party. I wasn’t sure what theme to use so I did a Guided Search and came up with a glow in the dark theme, which my twins loved! Now I just wish Pinterest could help me find a date for the party that works for everyone…
Halloween is a lot of fun on Pinterest, perhaps because it’s so visual. My Pinterest Halloween post from last year we pinned throughout the year, so I guess everyone loves Halloween no matter what the season!
