Infographics are a powerful tool to get your point across. They present information in an informative and entertaining way that helps people understand more easily what you’re trying to say.
Use infographics to illustrate facts on social media, in presentations and for fun. According to Bit Rebels, “Our brain can digest the facts presented on an infographic three times faster than reading it in text since it’s an illustrated format.”
See, The Next Web 10 Ways to Use Infographics.
The easiest way to create infographics is to start with a template. But where do you go to get templates?
These websites offer free templates and tools to help you create infographics. No need to reinvent the format, just pick the template you want then drag and drop elements onto the infographic. Choose icons, backgrounds and images. Many of these sites let you upload your own images from your computer. Type in text, choose fonts and colors, then save your infographic and/or share it on social media.
These sites make creating your own infographics easy and free.
Piktochart
Piktochart is a website filled with infographic, presentation, poster and report templates. Register for an account and get started by choosing an infographic template.
A free account gets you a limited number of templates. You can upgrade to a premium account to get access to more templates, plus other benefits, such as the ability to save your creation in PDF format and removing the Piktochart watermark.
Piktochart has a helpful infographics tips page to guide you through creating your infographics.
This infographic I created on Piktochart illustrates these free tools you can use to create your own infographic:
Canva
Canva is a free image design website you can use to create infographics, social media cover images, invitations, posters, cards and more. Head to the site, register for an account and click Create a Design.
Choose Infographic to find lots of free templates. After you select the one you want, add background designs, images, text, icons, frames, charts and more. Use Canva’s free photos or upload your own.
Many of Canva’s elements are free, though some cost $1.
Canva also has a free app for iPhone and iPad to create infographics on the go: Canva app.
Venngage
Venngage is another website that gives access to free tools to create infographics, reports, posters, promotions and social media posts. After signing up for an account, choose which type of infographic you want to create, such as process, timeline, comparison or charts.
The templates are marked for difficulty: beginner, intermediate or advanced. Some of the templates are only available with a paid account. Venngage lets you include charts and their maps for free in your infographic.
You can create up to five infographics with Venngage with a free account.
Visme
Visme lets you search for templates by keyword. Sign up for an account and search according to format, such as comparison, or by topic, such as education. You can also view different templates to choose one that works best for you. Some of the templates are reserved for premium accounts.
This video shows how to use Visme:
A very cool feature of Visme infographics is that you can animate parts of the design. For example, you can make text move in a wave.
Visme lets you create interactive maps you can embed in the infographic. You can also add a YouTube video to your infographic. You can even add music to your infographic with free tunes from Visme.
When you’re finished with your Visme infographic, you can keep it to yourself, publish it or lock sharing with a password. The last option is a premium feature with a paid account.
Visme lets you make up to three projects with a free account.
Easelly
Easelly has loads of free templates to use for infographics. Sign up for a free account and choose a template to get started.
Select a background and add text, shapes, charts and objects to your infographic. Add images from Easelly or upload your own. You can embed a YouTube video into your infographic.
This video from Easelly shows you how to create an infographic using their site:

Hi, thanks for all these great sites/apps for creating easy to read messages that include “infographics”. So, as I breezed quickly through these it made me wonder how they are applied? What kind of platform/software can accept these? I’m thinking website vs Power Point/word, etc.
Thanks.
Carol

Hi Carol, Great question. You can save these infographics as photo files in .jpg format (sometimes .png). Some of the services let you save the infographics as PDFs, though some charge for that option. Some offer embed codes for bloggers and some you can share directly to social media.
If the format is important to you, check to see which of these sites offer the format you want, preferably for free!
