Pinterest Announces New Tools to Arrange Your Boards and Pins

The estimated reading time for this post is 2 minutes

Yesterday, Pinterest announced new tools to make organizing your Pinterest account much easier. These tools will help many Pinterest users who wanted more options to arrange their boards and pins.

Pinterest New Arranging Tools

Pinterest is also introducing a new archive tool to help users to manage boards that are no longer relevant to them.

These new features are rolling out for Pinterest on the web and for Pinterest iOS and Android apps.

If you don’t have them yet, keep watching for the update. (As of this writing, I only have the archive feature update available for my Pinterest account.)

Arranging Pinterest Boards

Pinterest is now giving users the ability to sort Pinterest boards automatically. These new tools give you a choice of how you want to arrange your boards.

You can sort your Pinterest boards:

  • alphabetically
  • chronologically (starting with newest or oldest)
  • most recently saved to
  • or a custom order of your choosing

To sort your Pinterest boards, go to your profile page on Pinterest and look for the Sort button. Tap or click on it and choose how you want to arrange your boards.

Pinterest Board Arranging Options

Arranging Pins

Pinterest is also letting users arrange pins within their boards. This way you don’t have to re-pin a pin to get it to the top of your board.

You can move pins around to feature pins at the top of your boards, or compare two pins side-by-side. You may want to arrange travel pins according to your itinerary for an upcoming trip.

To arrange pins, open the board from your Pinterest profile page. Tap or click on the Organize button.

Pinterest Rearrange Pins

Then drag and drop the pins to the positions you want them on your board.

Archive Boards

Pinterest is very handy for planning events such as a wedding, baby shower or Sweet Sixteen party. But after the event is over, you may not want that board cluttering up your profile page. Yet you might need that information again some day so you don’t want to delete the board.

Pinterest now lets you archive boards. These boards no longer will appear to others on your profile page. Archived boards will appear to you at the bottom of your Pinterest and only you can see them, though you can send them to others. You cannot add new pins to archived boards.

To archive a Pinterest board, open the board from your profile page. Tap the edit icon (looks like a pencil).

The edit window will open. Tap the Archive button at the bottom of the window.

Pinterest How to Archive a Board

The board will be archived. You can find it in the new Archive section at the bottom of your Pinterest profile, below the Secret Board section.

=> Learn more about Pinterest Secret Boards at How to Create a Secret Pinterest Board in 3 Easy Steps.

If you decide you want to active the board again, find it in the Archived section, open it, click on the edit button, then click Unarchive.

Your Thoughts

Are you excited about these new ways to organize your Pinterest account? Will be using these new tools to arrange your pins and boards? Do you have boards you would like to archive?

    Hi Carolyn,

I think these improvements will be good. I mainly use Pinterest to find and save vintage photos. I try to collect them. My photography has improved a lot since I last posted a comment here. I photograph people at events and they ask me for copies of the photos. Even the mayor gave me his business card!

Yes, these new tools are very exciting for Pinterest users. It’s so helpful to be able to organize our boards and pins. This will make Pinterest even more useful going forward!

    Hi Carolyn,
This is great news – I’ve wanted to be able to move things around. I took a quick look and saw I can actually already move boards around (perhaps this is not new)!
Thanks for all the work you do to decode the web for us!
    Lori

The ability to re-arrange pins is NOT available on my android (which I updated just to make sure) or desktop as of 2/15/18. :/

Hi Jas, Yes, Pinterest is rolling out these changes, as mentioned in the article above. I don’t have these changes either, on the web or in my Pinterest app, except for the archive update. Keep checking Pinterest to see when these changes will be available for you.

    Hi Carolyn,
I don’t have these new features yet, but I am happy to report that they appear to have fixed a bug they had for wide-screen desktops. I didn’t even realize that the boards I was saving to for later reference were actually invisible to me when returning to my account. In other words, I could see a board when I created a pin, but then I couldn’t see that board in my profile. One of the discussion board monitors informed me that this was a known bug. There was a limit to how many boards would display, but that appears to be fixed now.

Hi Ann, Yes, it takes a while for all of my boards to load on my Pinterest profile page. At first it looks like I only have a few boards. I hope this gets fixed with the new updates.

That’s great news that your problem is fixed now. I’m glad Pinterest keeps improving its service with helpful updates.

    Hi Carolyn,

Not only did you bring the news up, you also gave detailed information regarding how to use the new features. You have explained everything very clearly using images. Undoubtedly a very useful post.

The options to manage boards and pins are definitely useful and I am sure a good number of people have been struggling to manage things as they are. Sorting by different parameters has become a necessity. Also, archiving of boards can help cleanup the working space very much. Definitely a welcome step by Pinterest.

Thanks very much for this very informative and well explained article giving all the useful details to us. Have a great day!

I hope you enjoy Pinterest even more, Naveen.

Hi Lori, You’re exactly right, this is a great update from Pinterest. I’m so glad you’re as excited by this news as I am. If you have the perfect pin, but can’t find it, you won’t be helped by it. Instead, if you organize your pins and board, Pinterest becomes even more helpful.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us, Lori.

Organizing features are absolute most at Pinterest. Specially when I am trying to look for interesting content and collecting them – I actually have hundreds of pin collected in various collections. However after a point this get almost impossible to organize.
These features are going to help however I wish they could do something like Apple does for our photos – auto organize them in various formats that makes it easier to zoom in and out of things you are looking for. Pinterest probably needs it more than iOS since they are millions of pics that could be organized better. Tags alone are not enough to organize pictures.

Hi Sophia, That is a truly great idea. You’re right, going back and organizing our pins could take way too much time if we’ve pinned thousands of pins. Auto-tagging them via image recognition, as Apple and Google do, would be a massive improvement for Pinterest.

I do like how Pinterest now lets us arrange our boards automatically by time or alphabet. But you’re right, a more efficient way of organizing our pins within those board would be very helpful.
