Q. I need to sign some documents, but I don’t have access to a printer. I was using a printer at work but now we’re working from home where I don’t have a printer.
Someone told me that I can use my iPhone to sign a document, even without a printer. Can The Wonder of Tech do an article about how I can use my iPhone to sign a document without using a printer?
A. Great question! Yes, you can sign a document using your iPhone or iPad. No need to print out the document, you can sign it and send it back without using a printer. In fact, signing a document on your iPhone and iPad is so easy, you may want to do it even if you do have access to a printer.
Signing a Document Using Your iPhone and iPad
Signing a document with your iPhone or iPad is easy, without using a printer. No need to fumble with paper jams, run low on printer ink, or add paper to the printer. You can sign a document on your iPhone or iPad and send it back more quickly than you can print it out, sign it, scan it, and send it back.
In fact, once you learn this handy tip, you may prefer to sign documents using your iPhone or iPad, even when you have access to a printer.
How to Sign a Document Using Your iPhone and iPad
You can sign a document using your iPhone or iPad using the Mail app. If the document isn’t in an email in your Mail app, you can forward the document using the email address in the Mail app on your iPhone or iPad.
When you receive a document as an attachment in the Mail app on your iPhone or iPad, follow these steps to sign it:
- Tap the document to open it
- Swipe down on the document to get to the signature line (after you’ve read the document, of course!)
- Tap the Markup icon in the upper right corner of the screen (looks like a marker tip)
- A Markup toolbar will appear at the bottom of the screen
- Tap the + sign on the Markup toolbar
- Tap Signature in the menu that appears
- If you’ve already used this feature, your signature will appear. Tap it and skip to Step 10. If you haven’t used this feature, a Signatures screen will appear.
- Use your finger or a stylus to sign your name on the screen.
- Tap Done
- Your signature will appear on the document. Tap and drag it to the signature line. Drag the corner of the signature space to re-size it.
- Tap the Markup button again to place your signature on the document.
- When you’re finished, tap Done in the upper left corner of the screen and send the message back to the sender.
