About Google Art Filters

Google Art Filters can be found in one of my favorite apps, Google Arts & Culture. This free app has many fun and useful features, and one you shouldn’t miss is the Art Filter feature.

Art Filters use Augmented Reality (AR) and famous pieces of art and artifacts to enhance your photos. Google explains, “Art Filter applies Machine Learning based image processing because making this kind of AR feature possible needs a sophisticated anchoring of the virtual content to the real world. Through this approach, the artifacts are able to position themselves organically and smoothly on your head or react to your facial expression.”

You can make yourself the subject of famous portraits, or add artifacts to your selfies. Try on a spacesuit or a diving helmet, if you want to pretend you’re in outer space or under the deep blue sea!

This handy video from Google shows how to use its Art Filters:

You can share your Art Filter photos and videos with others to help others learn about artwork or just for fun! If you share your creations on social media, Google suggests you use the hashtag #ArtFilter.
