How the Kindle Rewards Program Works
Amazon recently started testing a new rewards program that works for Kindle ebooks and print books. According to Amazon, “Kindle Rewards is a limited access beta program available to a select group of Amazon.com customers.” This free program gives points for the purchase of print books and Kindle ebooks on Amazon.
As I was researching this article, I discovered I am part of the beta test group and a member of Kindle Rewards. You may also be a member of the Kindle Rewards program and not even know it!
Earning Kindle Rewards Points
While Kindle Rewards are available for both Kindle ebooks and print books, rewards are more generous for Kindle ebooks. Members of Kindle Rewards earn 5 points for every dollar spent on Kindle books and 2 points for every dollar spent on a print book bought on Amazon.com.
As of now, Kindle rewards are not available for textbooks, magazines, newspapers, audiobooks, comics, and digital subscriptions. During the beta test period, only books purchased on Amazon.com will qualify for Amazon Rewards point.
Book listings on Amazon show members how many points will be awarded for the purchase of the Kindle ebook version:

Kindle Rewards members will be able to earn extra rewards with Bonus Offers.
Immediately after this article was published, Amazon launched its first Bonus Offer: a punch card. If you spend $10 on a Kindle book, you can earn 300 points.
This Bonus Offer requires activation and is available for a limited time.
Redeeming Kindle Rewards Points
After members earn 300 points, they can redeem the points for a $3 credit off the price of a Kindle ebook. Members have six months from the date of earning the points to redeem them.
Kindle Rewards points can only be used for credits towards the purchase of Kindle ebooks. They can’t be used for other purchases on Amazon.
Becoming a Member of the Kindle Rewards Program
From Amazon, “Participation in Kindle Rewards is free. We launched this program to reward people like you, who love to read.”
Amazon is beta-testing Kindle Rewards and during this testing period, there isn’t a way to sign up for the program. But you may be a member of the Kindle Rewards program without even knowing it. After all, that’s what happened to me.
To find out whether you’re part of the beta-testing group, head to amazon.com/kindlerewards. From there, you can see your Kindle Rewards point balance and subscribe to Kindle Rewards emails.
If you see book offerings with points listed on Amazon, you may be a member of the Kindle Rewards beta test group. You should also see this notice on Amazon book pages:
If you don’t see points listed for Kindle books or the Kindle Rewards Beta notice, then you’re probably not yet a member of Kindle Rewards.
So far, the Kindle Rewards program is being tested only in the U.S.
If you find you’re a member of Kindle Rewards and would like to give Amazon feedback on the program, you can do so at the Kindle Rewards feedback page.
When and if Amazon opens the Kindle Rewards program more widely and you buy books on Amazon, be sure to check your Rewards points.
The Kindle Rewards program is free, so why not earn rewards for purchasing books on Amazon?

I’m excited about this program! After reading your Kindle 2022 article I purchased one and have been enjoying the Kindle experience. I signed up, but haven’t been accepted into the beta program yet. I hope they are able to open it up to everyone soon! Very cool. Thank you!!

Hi Leigh, I’m so glad these articles were helpful to you and that you’re a new Kindle fan. I hope that you do get to sign up for Kindle Rewards soon and can reap even more benefits from reading Kindle books!
Troy says
I like the idea of it, but it’s been 48 hours and I never received the points for the ebooks I bought.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Troy, Are you seeing the Kindle Reward points listed for books on Amazon.com? I’m wondering whether you are a member of Kindle Rewards yet.
If you are seeing the Kindle Reward points on amazon.com book pages, reach out to Amazon in a chat to find out how to get credit for your purchases. As the program is being tested, you could provide helpful feedback, and get your Kindle Rewards points added to your account.

I got selected in the program! Yay! I love it although it makes me want to buy more books😅 Especially the punch card! It made me want to complete it so bad that I bought enough books to get the 300 point reward right away. I’d say it’s a good scheme to make you buy more for them, but it will be also helpful for me as a parent who is trying to build a good home library for my kids.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Aya, Congratulations on being selected for Kindle Rewards!
That’s great to hear you’re benefitting so much from the program. I’m fairly certain that’s exactly what Amazon was hoping for when it designed Kindlle Rewards. Hey, if you’re going to be buying books anyway, why not get rewarded!
Kenneth says
I can see the points under the price of ebooks on the website but not when buying from the kindle oasis? Does it work only on the website? I always buy ebooks directly from my kinlde
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Kenneth, Congratulations on being included in the beta-testing phase of Kindle Rewards!
Great question. During this phase of Kindle Rewards, members can only earn points when buying books on Amazon.com. I hope Amazon expands Kindle Rewards to include books bought on Kindle ereaders in the next phase!
Billie says
It’s a good idea, but are the rewards retroactive to books we’ve purchased in the past?
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Billie, Yes, Kindle Rewards is a good idea from Amazon. So far, Kindle Rewards are not retroactive to previously purchased books.
