Have you been wishing for more Alexa in your life? Good news, Amazon has you covered.
Amazon continues to surprise us with Alexa devices in more places in our homes and new versions of our favorite Alexa devices.
Last week Amazon announced new Alexa devices to make our lives easier. If you are a fan of Alexa, you’ll be glad to know that you can have even more Alexa in your life. If you’re not yet a fan of Alexa, well perhaps these new devices may make you an Alexa convert.
New Echo Dot
Amazon has upgraded the Echo Dot with a new version that’s larger and more powerful than the original Dot. The new Dot comes with a better speaker that is 70% louder and more clear than the previous version.
New Dot can connect via Bluetooth and an aux port so you can use it with other speakers.
New Echo Dot is priced at $49.99, the same price as the previous Dot.
New Echo Plus
Echo Plus also has been updated to make it easier to connect Alexa to your smart home devices. The new Plus also has a stronger speaker, plus a new design.
It has a heat sensor so you can ask Alexa to perform tasks based on the temperature. With the new Plus you can control your smart home devices using Alexa even without an Internet connection.
New Echo Plus is available for $149.99, the same price as the previous Plus.
New Echo Show
The Echo Show smart speaker has been upgraded with a 10-inch HD screen and with smart home hub capabilities. With eight microphones, the new Echo Show is the best device on the market for Alexa to hear your voice.
Amazon has added two Internet browsers to the new Show, its Silk browser and Firefox, so you can surf the Web using the Show. Microsoft’s Skype app has also been added so you can make video calls using Skype from the Show, in addition to using Alexa’s video calling.

The new Echo Show is priced at $229.99, the same price as the previous Show.
Echo Auto
Amazon is bringing the power of Alexa into your car with Echo Auto. Connect Auto to your car, then use your voice to command Alexa to get directions, play music and more.
With eight microphones, Echo Auto is designed to hear voices even over road noise and music playing in the car. It connects to your car using either Bluetooth or an audio jack.
Use Echo Auto to play Audible audiobooks, get news and traffic updates and turn on your smart home lights as you arrive home.
Echo Auto is available by invitation only for $29.99. When Auto is made available to the general public the price will be $49.99.
Echo Input
The Echo Input is another new device, this one is designed to connect Alexa to an external speaker. Input doesn’t have a speaker of its own. Instead, you plug the Input into a speaker, then use Alexa to direct music to the speaker.
Input is smaller than the Dot and less expensive at $34.99, but is not available yet from Amazon.
Echo Wall Clock
Alexa is even going to make telling time easier with the new Echo Wall Clock. Use this new clock with Alexa to set alarms, reminders and timers. Set multiple timers using Alexa and see how much time is left on each using the Echo Wall Clock.
The Echo Wall Clock is $29.99, but is not yet available from Amazon.
Echo Sub
Echo Sub is designed to enhance the sound of your existing Echo or Echo Plus speaker by adding bass. The sound with the Echo Sub is supposed to be fuller and richer.
Echo Sub is $129.99.
Echo Link
Echo Link connects to your existing home speaker system so you can control it using either an Echo device or your Alexa app. The Link has no microphone or speakers of its own. Instead, it connects to the Alexa app and other Echo devices to “let you control music selection, volume, and multi-room playback on your stereo with your Echo or the Alexa app.”
Echo Link is $199.99, but is not available yet from Amazon.
Echo Link Amp
The Echo Link Amp is a “60W, 2-channel built-in amplifier to stream high-fidelity music to active or passive speakers.” You can control your music using Alexa and the Link Amp.
The Echo Link Amp is $299.99, but is not available yet from Amazon.
AmazonBasics Microwave
Amazon wants to bring your microwaving experience into the 21st century with its new Alexa-enabled microwave oven. The AmazonBasics Microwave connects to your Echo device via Bluetooth so you can say commands to Alexa to operate the microwave.
This microwave comes with “dozens of quick-cook voice presets,” you can use with Alexa to cook your food. Use commands such as, “Alexa, microwave two potatoes,” and let this smart microwave do the rest.
AmazonBasics Microwave is available for pre-order at $59.99 and will ship later this year.
Amazon Smart Plug Control
Turn nearly any device into an Alexa device with the Amazon Smart Plug Control. As it sounds, the Smart Plug connects to other devices, then you can use Alexa to turn them on or off. Use the Smart Plug with devices such as lights, fans, coffee makers, TV sets and more.
You can also set routines using Alexa so these devices turn on an off at certain times each day.
The Amazon Smart Plug Control is available for $24.99.
Wi-Fi Simple Set Up
Amazon is making connecting these Echo devices to Wi-Fi easier. Store the password to your Wi-Fi network in your Wi-Fi locker and Echo devices will automatically connect to your network when you plug them in.

Hi Dan, I’m so glad you enjoyed this article.
Be sure to check out Amazon’s generous return policy to see whether you can trade in your Dots for the newer generation. The price is the same so you won’t have to shell out extra money for the newer features.

I’m trying to fathom when exactly you would need to use voice controls to operate your microwave… I mean if you’re putting food in the microwave, you’re right there, you can just press the buttons, lol. Fun idea though I suppose, especially if you’re one of those people who dreams of controlling everything in their house with voice controls.

Hi Emilee, Good point. I think the benefit of having Alexa in a microwave is the ease of commands. Saying “cook two potatoes” instead of punching in numbers and cooking levels may bring some convenience.
I think the real draw is the price. If you’re going to buy a microwave for that price, why not get one with Alexa, assuming the reviews for it are good?

Hi Praveen, Yes, these new Alexa devices are very impressive from Amazon. It’s interesting which ones were the most appealing to you as those were the ones that really do bring Alexa into our everyday lives.
The Smart Plug is especially fascinating because it can turn nearly any device into an Alexa device. The price is reasonable for it too.
It will be interesting to see what Amazon comes up with next. The microwave oven makes me think that they may bring Alexa into major home appliances at some point.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us, Praveen.
