Good news for those with Android or iPhones and who like to shop at Amazon! On Saturday, December 10, people who have the Amazon Price Check app on their phones can get 5% off of their Amazon purchases when they use the app to add items to their cart.
Amazon Price Check is an app that checks the price of an item at Amazon. The app comes in handy when you’re at a store and wondering if you can get an item cheaper at Amazon. (Some stores, such as Best Buy, may match Amazon’s lower price to get you to buy the product at their store.)
To use the app, you search for an item by scanning the bar code, taking a picture of the item, typing keywords into the search box, or speaking the name of the item.
You don’t have to fight the crowds at the stores on Saturday to take advantage of this 5% discount. Just search for the item you want to buy on the app from your phone. When the app displays the item, put it in your cart. You must complete the purchase within 24 hours to have the discount apply.
There are some restrictions on this deal. There is a limit of a $5 discount per item and you can use this discount three times up to $15 in total. Not all items are included, just certain products in electronics, toys, DVD’s, sports and music.
The deal begins at 9:00 pm PST on Friday, December 9 and continues until 11:59 pm PST on Saturday December 10.
You need to have location services enabled on your phone (see, Apps: To Push or Not to Push). For more information about the 5% discount on Saturday, check Amazon’s website.
You can get the app for free here:
[note] Amazon Price Check also works on the iPad, iPod Touch, Kindle Fire and other Android tablets. [/note]
If you have items on your holiday shopping list and like to save money, wait until Saturday to do your shopping with the Amazon Price Check app!

Wow – incredible what we are able to do with these little smart devices. I don’t have an Android, but that sounds like a fabulous deal!
Hi Ruth, Yes, when I wrote about SwiftKey X in September, a lot of readers were interested, but balked a bit at the price. $3.99 seems much more expensive in the Android Market than in Starbucks. This is a fantastic deal on a very useful app!
Very cool. I have 2 electronic purchases to make on Amazon. You potentially saved me $10. Nice.
Thanks!
Btw, I didn’t know about the app. I like how you can speak the product. Sweet deal.
Hi Brian, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! It isn’t often that Amazon offers discounts like this one. In fact, I can’t remember another time that they have done this.
Happy savings!
.10, huh? That’s kind of pricey…………..
Thanks for sharing; I’m probably not doing any Amazon shopping this Christmas.
Thanks for reaching out today; check my post tomorrow…..
Hi Bill, Yes, you’re right, SwiftKey X is pricey, if you don’t have an Android phone (which I know you don’t). But for those of us who do, it’s a great bargain! Without a physical keyboard, typing on an Android phone is a challenge. SwiftKey X makes it much easier!
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment, Bill! I look forward to your post tomorrow. 🙂
Hey Bill,
Not shopping at Amazon this Christmas? Were do you do your Christmas shopping Bill? I do most of my shopping offline for Christmas. That’s the time of the year when I go out with my kids and by most of the gifts. I’m old fashioned that way 🙂
Seems like a pretty useful apps. And about the last comment, I agree with you typing on android is a pain in the neck.
Hi Faran, Yes, you’re right, these app are useful. Even though the sale on SwiftKey X is over, it’s still a fantastic app and worth considering, even at full price.
I’ve already done my Amazon shopping but what came in handy was the Invisible Hand extension that you shared with us Carolyn. I did find some cheaper prices, not by much, but after visiting their site they didn’t have it it stock. That’s okay, it’s not like what I wanted cost that much to begin with.
Great apps and for those clamoring to buy on the 10th, this should really come in handy!
Hi Adrienne, Yes, Invisible Hand is a really useful plugin, especially during the holiday shopping season! I know it’s disappointing when a site sells out, but then at least you have a choice to wait until the item is back in stock or buy it at the higher price and have it sooner.
But if you’re planning on buying an item at Amazon anyway, it may be worth waiting until December 10. 🙂
Carolyn – The SwiftKey X sounds interesting, will surely like to try it for my Android.
As far as Amazon, i think i would pass it for now, after the BF shopping, i need to take a break.
Thanks for sharing.
Hi Praveen, I don’t think you will be disappointed if you get SwiftKey X, even at the higher price. The app makes a huge difference in typing. You get spoiled by it and wish it was on your computer (or other device).
Don’t worry about missing the Amazon sale, No need to buy anything if your shopping is all done! But I know how much you enjoy shopping on Amazon. 😉
As always deeply grateful, Carolyn, for all the wonderful advice! And BTW, congrats on winning first prize at Bill’s.
Hi Barbara, I’m glad you find this advice helpful. Thank you, I am honored to have won the prize at Bill’s. I was very glad to learn he was not dead in his chair for five days! 😉
To me $3.99 is not a lot of money, as long as the app is of high quality. I understand that people think that the price is high, but it all depends on the quality. I have bought several apps that are more expensive. One of the most expensive I have bought recently is Things (for iPhone). I’m not sure how much I paid, but way too much that’s for sure… I love the app, but I couldn’t believe why it was so expensive 🙂
Hi Jens, You’re right, Things is an expensive app ($9.99). I hope you find it useful. If an app is something that you will use, then the money spent is a wise investment. It’s all a matter of perspective!
Oh, I missed it (10c) . Right now its back to $4. I am really sad. I saw the reviews and it is recommended by everyone. Now waiting for prices again to come down :). Or if I change my mind, I might buy it .
Thanks Carolyn for this information once again. Infact I was searching for such an app. Your information has made it much easier for me to check it out.
Hi Ashvini, Well, it depends on how much you are annoyed by typing on your Android device. If it’s > $4, then it’s worth it! SwiftKey does a great job of predicting what you’re going to type, sometimes even before you type even one letter. Very cool. 🙂
5 % Sounds good, better than nothing. But anyway, if i really need an app i will not wait for any sale.
Hi Radu, I agree, if you really want an app, no need to wait for a sale!
Great deal thanks for sharing!
Hi Pete, I’m glad you enjoyed the post!
