When Amazon bought Whole Foods Market, many Prime Members were hoping the company would entice them to shop there by offering benefits. A few days ago Amazon made those Prime Members happier by announcing benefits at Whole Foods for Prime Members.
Prime members can now get both discounts and exclusive deals at certain Whole Foods stores.
Last month, Amazon increased the price of its Prime membership from $99 to $119 per year, beginning May 11 for new members, or on the renewal date for existing Prime members.
When Amazon previously raised the price of Prime membership it added new benefits to make the membership more valuable to its customers. The company seems to be doing it again with a new benefit for Prime members. This Whole Foods benefit is the first new benefit for Prime members since Amazon announced its price increase.
Amazon’s strategy with this new benefit may be to help Prime members save money with shopping at Whole Foods to offset the increased price of Prime membership, while growing the number of shoppers at Whole Foods.
Discounts
If you like to buy items on sale, you’ll like Amazon Prime Whole Foods discounts even better. Whole Foods will be giving Prime members an extra 10% discount off of sale prices on many items. Look for yellow sale signs in the store showing the Prime member discount in Whole Foods stores:
Special Deals
Whole Foods will also be offering special deals that are available only for Prime members. Shoppers will see blue signs showing these special deals:
How to Get Prime Member Benefits at Whole Foods Market
To get the Whole Foods Prime benefits, download the Whole Foods Market app for your phone:
- Whole Foods Market app for iPhone and iPad

Sign into the app with your Amazon user name and password. You can look for Prime members deals and discounts in the Whole Foods Market app before heading to the store.

If you don’t have a smart phone, left your phone at home, haven’t downloaded the app to your phone, or your phone’s battery has died, don’t panic, you can still get the benefits.
You can also tell the cashier your telephone number to get the Prime deals at Whole Foods.

Availability
While these benefits are exciting for Whole Foods shoppers, only stores in Florida have the Prime benefits now. Amazon chose the State of Florida to be the test site for Whole Foods Prime benefits so shoppers there can use them first.
Shoppers elsewhere in the U.S. will have to wait to check out Whole Food Prime benefits. Amazon says that by the end of the summer all Whole Foods stores in the U.S. will offer Prime deals.
You can see when stores in your state are added to Prime deals by checking this Whole Foods page: Whole Foods Market Prime Deals page
Amazon has not yet announced when and whether these benefits will be available in countries outside the U.S.
Your Thoughts
Are you a Prime member who shops at Whole Foods? Does Amazon’s announcement make you more likely to shop at Whole Foods? Does it make you more likely to become or remain a Prime member? Do you think the Whole Foods benefits will help to offset the increased price of an Amazon Prime membership?
