The Apple Watch arrives today and if you’re getting one you’ll want to fill it up with fun and useful apps. Even if you’re not getting an Apple Watch you may be curious about exactly what the Watch can do. Apps can help the Watch do a lot.
Apps on a watch are very different from apps on a phone or tablet. The screen size is minimal and the lack of a keyboard means developers have to be creative in designing how you interact with apps. These apps are useful in their form and function to help you make the most of your Apple Watch (or maybe make you wish you had an Apple Watch?)
WatchAware
If you want to check out how apps work on the Apple Watch, check out WatchAware, a very cool, interactive website that shows you how apps works on the Apple Watch. Read the description of the apps and see animated images of how the apps work on the Watch.

Hi Carolyn,
Evernote seems to be an app I’d love on my Apple Watch. I use it a lot and I imagine that it would be a lot quicker to add short notes via the watch. On the other hand, the app I’d really love to see is either Omnifocus or Todoist. This way I could keep my projects and tasks closer to me 🙂
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Jens, Good news! Omnifocus and Todoist are available as Apple Watch apps. Here’s how they look and what they can do:
Omnifocus on WatchAware
Todoist on WatchAware
My wish list for Watch apps has Audible at the top of it. My podcasting app has an Apple Watch app, now I need Audible to get one!
Jens-Petter Berget says
That’s awesome. Is it possible to connect headphones to the Apple Watch? I actually didn’t think you could listen to audible on it 🙂
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Jens, Great question. You can connect Bluetooth headphones and speakers to the Apple Watch. You can download one playlist to the Apple Watch so you can listen to the music without having your iPhone connected. For example, if you wanted to go on a run without your iPhone, you could listen to the music on your Apple Watch with Bluetooth headphones and leave your iPhone behind.
The Music app on the Apple watch lets you control audio from your iTunes songs and from 3rd party apps such as Audible. You can pause, play, fast forward, rewind and adjust the volume of music, podcasts, audiobooks, etc. from your watch.
You may like the Joy for Spotify app that lets you use voice control with Spotify on your Apple Watch, Jens.

Great share, to be honest I don’t own an apple watch but I have planned to order it next week and I guess I’ll make a note of these best apps.
Thanks
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Samantha, Yes, while you’re waiting for your Apple Watch you can download these apps to your iPhone to see if you like them first. They’re all free so you can test them out on your phone. If you like them on your iPhone you may like them on your Watch too.

Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Honey, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! You’re exactly right, we now can have a computer on our wrists. Very cool and useful. We used to marvel at having a mini computer on our smart phones and now we have them on our wrists.
David says
I like the Apple watch very much, though it is way above my budget. Though I wish I will buy one very soon.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi David, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! Yes, the price range of the Watch is quite wide. I’m thinking the $17,000 watch is above most people’s budgets. But the good news is that you get the same tech with the least expensive Watch as you do with the most expensive Watch!
