Hi Carolyn,
I Haven’t really got eBooks yet. I read a lot of non-fiction, mainly research and so that stuff isn;t in eBooks. Eventually, I’ll read fiction in eBook format. If I live that long! I think we need an open source format that all eBook readers will adopt.
One of my friends mentioned me in the foreword of his novel. That sold around 10,000, but I learned today that I’m mentioned in an online novel in China with 700,000 readers. We must start blogging in Chinese! ๐
Johan Bengtsson says
I live in China and actually there are some huge social media sites (no access to facebook and g+) but there are also a lot of Chinese blogs already. The payout is also quite low on advertising on blogs.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Johan, That’s very cool that you live in China. I know there is no Facebook there because we have hosted Chinese students but can’t keep in touch with them via Facebook after they return. Last year my twin daughters traveled to China on a student exchange program and were able to visit their friends there.
I would be interested in seeing Chinese blogs. I wonder if Google Translate would be able to translate them accurately!
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Mike, Well, first we must learn Chinese! If you start blogging in Chinese, let me know ahead of time so I can start studying…
You can actually find a lot of non-fiction in ebooks. I like reading non-fiction as ebooks because of my ability to search, take notes and highlight information. You might want to take a peek and see if you can find any free non-fiction ebooks on BookBub to give ebooks a try.
BookBub is from Cambridge so you might enjoy the site.
Have a wonderful weekend, Mike. Stay away from stinging nettles! ๐
Johan Bengtsson says

Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Johan, Yes, BookBub will give you lots of choices. You can get news on ebooks for your Android from Kindle, Google Play or Nook.

Hi Carolyn,
Thanks a lot Carolyn for sharing the Bookhub site. I love to read and since you mentioned that there are lots of choices to choose from, it’s worth the time to research it as I am looking for self-development ebooks.
Thanks Carolyn for a great share. Have a great weekend ahead.
Be Blessed,
Neamat
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Neamat, Yes, you should be able to get some deals on self-development books under the Advice and How To category at BookBub. I hope that you find some great deals using BookBub, Neamat!

Ooo – just in time for the summer reading list!!
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Exactly, Jodi. I hope you find some great summer reads at BookBub!
Jens-Petter Berget says
This is perfect timing Carolyn. I’ve just bought the iPad mini, and I’m looking for ebooks to read on it during summer (while I’m on vacation). Thank you. I’ll test it and see if I can find something to read ๐
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Jens, I’m so glad that BookBub will be helpful to you, Jens. You can sign up for iBook and Kindle deals so you can find books you’ll enjoy reading on your new iPad Mini!
Happy reading!
Silviu says
BookBub!! It sounds so funny! However, it is definitely something that must be tried.
I like to read books in pdf format and kindle. Of course paper version is still excellent and less tiresome. So a combination of these three is what works for me.
Discounts up to 90% !!!! They offer everything almost for free. This is strange. How do they make money ?
An email with ebooks for discounts for the day? I like that.
Another Q: Do they have Business books, marketing, social media etc. ? From your list I can see only Advice and How-tos.
Ok. Thank you very much for the post. I’ll check that site to see for my self.
Have a nice day
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Silviu, I’m so glad you like BookBub. They make money through their affiliate links. When you click through and buy a book, BookBub gets a small commission on the sale, unless the book is free, in which case there is no commission to be had.
Advice and How To’s is a broad category. You can find all sorts of non-fiction books in that category including business books.
I hope you find some interesting Kindle books at BookBub, Silviu!
Pramod says
having more than 1 million subscribers is self explanatory for the popularity of bookbub ..i will register myself and would spend some time exploring the catagories of books on bookbub.thanks for sharing this service .

Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Pramod, Yes, the reviews of BookBub are extremely positive. Lots of people have found lots of deals on lots of great books. Wonder of Tech readers deserve these deals too!
I hope you find some tantalizing deals on BookBub, Pramod!
Adrienne says
Another really cool program Carolyn! For the most part, I usually only read books that people have recommended to me only because as you’re probably aware, there are just not enough hours in the day to just read for pure pleasure anymore. If you can believe this, I’m just now getting around to reading Crush It by Gary Vaynerchuk. It’s good, at least so far of what I’ve read. lol…
Really cool site though and for those that love to read I can see this one as being extremely helpful. Okay, I’ll be sharing the heck out of this one too!
Thanks Carolyn and hope you’re really enjoying your weekend.
~Adrienne
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Adrienne, Yes, when you don’t get to read a lot then you should rely on books that are recommended by others. You could give BookBub a try for a week, using the How To and Advice category to see if you found any free and low cost books you might like.
What I like about BookBub is that it curates the ebooks to find the best ones. So many deals on ebooks are for ones that aren’t very good books, but BookBub doesn’t cover those deals.
Frank Cern says
Carolyn, I like the high quality ebooks that BookBub covers. Many times online you find a lot of stuff that just isn’t very good.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Frank, You’re so right! Often you spend more time weeding through deals on ebooks than you spend actually reading the ebook. That’s what I really like about BookBub, you get deals only on quality books in the categories and on the platforms you want. The efficiency of BookBub is impressive!
Angela McCall says
Hi Carolyn,
This is very COOL. I tweeted this and pin it in my Pinterest.
You’re right. You don’t need a Kindle to read Kindle books. In fact, I only have a Tablet. But I do have the Kindle app there. Although I’m starting to like my Tablet more, I am itching to get a Kindle Fire…I heard the batter on this one can last up to 8-weeks, that’s 2 months! My Tablet only last 8 hours and so I have to keep charging that battery.
New Kindles are inviting because it has its own wife. Amazing!
Anyhoo, heard you from Adrienne’s facebook announcing you. Hope you have a terrific week.
Angela
Angela McCall says
correction: wife = means “wi-fi”
I dunno what happened there. It must have this crazy auto correct. For some strange reason it always type crazy spellings here somehow. ๐
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Lol, no worries, Angela. Let me know if you would like me to edit that in the original comment and remove your second comment. ๐
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Angela, I’m so glad you found this article thanks to Adrienne. I appreciate you sharing this so many places!
I don’t know what kind of tablet you have, but I’m glad you’re using it to read Kindle books. That Kindle app is available on almost every device!
The Kindle Fire is an excellent tablet, but it won’t get you 8 weeks of battery life. That is true for the eInk Kindle ereaders, not for the Kindle Fire tablets, sorry!
Angela McCall says
So there’s a difference? I want to have a Kindle that could last 8 weeks. Not that I mind to recharge battery on my Pantech (Tablet)…this one is smaller than the regular Kindle hardware. OR maybe…I should just save my money and get another MacBook Pro that has 1T hard drive…decisions….
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Angela, Yes, there is a big difference between a Kindle Fire tablet and a Kindle ereader. The Kindle ereaders have black and white eInk screens so use very little power. Kindle Fire tablets have full color screens and use apps. You sound as if you’re interested in a Kindle Fire if you want to use apps.
If you’re near a Staples store, you can pop in to see the different Kindle ereaders and Kindle Fire tablets in person. I want to make sure that you get the right one.
You could also consider getting an iPad, which would be much less expensive than a MacBook Pro, but more expensive than a Kindle Fire.
Mayura says
Hey Carolyn,
Interesting finding again ๐ Gosh… I see faces of my friends who would love to know about this site. Hallucinating?
Kinda like ShopAdvisor, isn’t it? ๐ Well, Not the whole functionality though.
Once I jumped onto the site, I’ve got this title “Murder Dรฉjร Vu” ๐ An FBI manhunt. Seems like a nice story. Just downloaded via Amazon ๐
To be honest, I’ve got more blogs to read than eBooks now Carolyn ๐ I can see you are nodding too ๐ lol… I’ve read a lot of eBooks when I work for a eBook publishing company, but then I barely find a time to read books. Yet I have few eBooks to finish too ๐
You have a lovely week over there and I’ll share this with my “Live-to-Read-Books” friends ๐
Cheers…
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Mayura, I’m so pleased you found an ebook already! Excellent!
What a cool job you had. You’re so right, I was nodding. I tend to read so many blogs online that I don’t have as much time for ebooks as I would like. But I still try to squeeze them in, especially over the summer!
Thanks for sharing this and I hope you enjoy your reading, Mayura! ๐
Jenny says
Bookbub has turned out to be a great website, so I appreciate the post! I typically use Amazon or the app store for ebooks on my iPad, but it would be great to receive a regular email to alert me to new (and discounted :)) books that I may otherwise not even be aware of. For those who enjoy a good cheap read, I have found that my local library also “lends” ebooks, so be sure to check your local library’s website.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Jenny, Great point about libraries. I am loving getting my BookBub emails. I’ve probably picked up five new books this week. You’re right, getting a daily email is very handy. If I had to check the website daily, well, I probably wouldn’t do that…
