The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas last week didn’t let the COVID pandemic or the cancelation of many exhibitors dampen the excitement of the biggest tech show of the year. As with past years, this year’s CES showcased exciting new tech that may or not become actual products.
CES can give us a glimpse into the future to show us the tech that can change our lives. And show us what’s possible from the world of tech.
These products from CES can be useful and fun for our daily lives.
BMW iX Flow With Color-Changing Paint
When you buy a car, you may no longer be constrained by the color of the paint when you drive your new car off the lot. The BMW iX Flow uses eInk to change the color of the car. That’s right, the eInk you see when you view the screen of an ereader is now being used to change the color of a car’s paint.
This video from BMW shows how the e ink changes the color of a car:
Perhaps you want to make your car white at night to improve visibility or on a hot summer’s day to keep the car cooler. Or maybe you want to change the color to fit your mood.
Worried about finding your car in a parking lot because you can’t remember the color it was when you parked? No worries, you can make the paint flash to find the car easily.
The car can also change color to alert you to needed maintenance or alert you to an issue. For now, the colors are limited to white, grays, and black. The car is in the concept stage so you won’t see it at your local BMW dealership quite yet.
Ameca Life-like Robot
CES revealed that robots are approaching Westworld-like realism with Ameca, a life-size robot from the British company Engineered Arts. This robot can converse with people and show expression based on the nature of the conversation.
The robot was a big hit at CES, interacting with people in a human-like manner. The video in this tweet shows how Ameca can move fluidly, interact with others, show facial expressions, gesture realistically, and even use humor:

L’Oréal Colorsonic
The longer COVID isolates us, the better chance we have of seeing people’s true hair color. According to L’Oréal, the at-home hair color business grew by 6% during COVID.
At CES, L’Oréal introduced a new gadget designed to make coloring your hair at home easy and mess-free. The Colorsonic is a wand with a brush that mixes and dispenses hair color so you can color your hair at home. Choose from 40 different colors to use with the Colorsonic.
The brush oscillates 300 times a minute to deliver the color evenly. All you have to do is brush your hair and Colorsonic does the rest. You can even use Colorsonic for touch-ups between coloring.
This video from L’Oréal shows how the Colorsonic works:
According to L’Oréal, the Colorsonic is coming in 2023.
eufy Dual Video Doorbell
Why have one video camera on your doorbell when you can have two? The eufy Dual Video Doorbell has two video cameras so you can see not only who is at your door, but also whether a package has been delivered.
A motion sensor can alert you to the delivery of a package and whether any porch pirates may be lurking at your door.
The doorbell is battery-powered so you don’t need any wires, and also serves as a Wi-Fi booster to extend the range of your Internet connection.
The eufy Dual Video Doorbell will be available in February for $260. You can sign up to get an email notification at the eufy website.

Asus Zenbook Foldable Laptop price?
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Jesse, Unfortunately, no launch date or price has been announced by Asus.
Praveen Rajarao says
Hi Carolyn,
These are all so cool and I am glad I stopped by.
The BMW color changing feature is pretty interesting how they have thought about it, I loved the dual video door-bell feature ( very useful to see whats at the doorstep).
The Samsung projector would be a good-to-have, the current projectors are so rigid and expensive. This one looks compact and easy to carry around.
Thanks again for the round-up.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Praveen, I’m always glad when you stop by The Wonder of Tech! Yes, there were plenty of products announced at CES 2022, but I thought these were the most fascinating. The tech behind these products could someday become commonplace and really change our lives!
Carl says
Impressive, color changing, I never though that this will be even possible. Not sure, how the police in some countries will react on this. Fold-able laptop can be probably very useful for some designers.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Carl, Good point. If your car were to be stolen, the police report would look quite strange. “BMW iX Flow reported missing. Not sure of the color: white, gray, or black…”
Ricardo Ferrari says
Hi Carolyn,
You didn’t mention the TLC glasses, I found them very interesting and will soon have several competitors. The cool thing about them is having a mini projector and speakers, imagine using it with google maps… Amazing, just walk and follow the path, so it would be cleaner and with your hands free instead of using your cell phone to check the route all the time.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Ricardo, I agree with you, the TCL smartglasses are indeed fascinating tech from CES 2022, and they are described in the article at the end. I hope when the price is announced they’re affordable for all!
Ubong Udo says
Actually those videos on youtube those tech companies display are wonderful. I do ask myself where do they get this brain and imagination from? because the impact of this technologies that are innovating daily is tremendous.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hello Ubong, Good point, how do these developers keep coming up with such innovative ideas? And then turn them into products that can change our daily lives. Tech certainly is a fascinating field!
Thomas says
Hi Carolyn
I keep up getting impressed with tech innovation. Who in the world comes up with an idea for a color-changing car? 🙂 I also love the Samsung Freestyle projector, but not sure about the quality of it when it comes to the specs.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Thomas, Yes, tech innovators certainly are creative, making us yearn for things we didn’t even know we wanted!
Good point about the projector, pre-ordering is always a bit risky before reviews are posted. I hope that it turns out to be high quality because the concept is so exciting.
