Whether you live in a city or are visiting as a tourist, you want to find out the best way for getting from Point A to Point B. You may be completely unfamiliar with a city’s transport system or know it well enough to navigate it blindfolded.
Either way, Citymapper is a must-have app to save you precious time.
About Citymapper
Citymapper shows you the options for getting from one place to another and lets you compare the routes by time, cost, fitness and weather. By using Citymapper, you’ll be able to navigate around cities much more easily an efficiently.
Citymapper is available free as an app for Android, iPhone/iPad and Apple Watch, as well as a website.
Choosing a Route
One of the most important features of Citymapper is getting information about which route is the best one to take. When you enter a destination, Citymapper will show you ways of getting there via:
- walking
- train
- bus
- bicycle
- subway
- ferry
- taxi
- Uber
- Lyft
You’ll see how long each way will take and the cost of each. Choose a route to see it on a map.
You can also see at a glance if any lines are closed or running late.
Citymapper will even show you preferred routes to stay out of the rain.
As You’re Traveling
As you’re traveling, Citymapper will guide you on your phone and/or watch. The app will alert you when you’re at your stop and it’s time to get off your train or bus. You can also share your journey with others using the app.
Directions include which entrance and exit to use.
It would be helpful if Citymapper would tell you which subway car to be in to make connections to other trains. Sometimes being in the correct car can mean the difference between making or missing a connection.
Real-Time Information
Citymapper shows you in real-time how long each of these routes will take on many public transportation services. The app can show you when the next subway train or bus will arrive at a stop If you’re choosing between two lines, you can head to the stop with the train or bus which is next to arrive.
Not all transportation services offer real-time updates through Citymapper, but more are being added often.

Commute Features
Save your home and office addresses in the Commute section so you can see at a glance which route you should take each day. Citymapper even lets you save different locations for morning and evening commutes, if you need that option.
You can get a notification from Citymapper if there’s a disruption on your commute route so you find out about it before you leave home or the office.
Staying Fit
Citymapper may even encourage you to exercise more. If you choose to walk or cycle, you can see how long your journey will take, as well as how many calories you’ll burn getting there.
The app will show you a total of how many calories you’ve burned, how much money you’ve saved and how many trees you’ve preserved by walking or cycling.
Teleporter
And, Citymapper shows you how long your trip will take if you use a teleporter. What other app does that?
Of course, you probably won’t burn many calories using teleportation…
Trip History
Citymapper can save a history of your trips so you can compare how long each route actually takes you. You may find that one route is historically faster than another and help you decide to take that one in the future.
Connecting to the Internet
Using the Citymapper app means you are connected to the Internet, so you will be using data. If you’re traveling internationally or in a place without Internet, you can download Citymapper routes to your phone to use them offline.
