If you have Apple AirPods Pro earbuds, you probably got them hoping they would stay in your ears. You may want to run, walk, talk, eat, exercise, and do other things without worrying that they will fall out.
If that’s working well for you, great.
If not, you may want to know about an inexpensive and easy solution to AirPods Pro falling out of your ears.
My AirPods Pro Issue
I got a pair of AirPods Pro earbuds with the hope that the silicone tips meant they wouldn’t fall out of my ears. I had never had any luck with keeping earbuds in my ears before, at least the corded ones that came free with the iPhone. The hard plastic tips never fit well in my ears. They were actually painful in my ears and fell out constantly.
Because the earbuds that came free with the iPhone were attached with a cord, I didn’t worry about losing them when they dropped out of my ears. But they were so uncomfortable that I rarely used them.
The original AirPods were designed like the original iPhone earbuds but without a cord. They were similarly uncomfortable and didn’t fit well in my ears. So I didn’t get the original AirPods.
Instead, I waited until Apple introduced the AirPods Pro earbuds with soft silicone earbud tips. I figured spending the extra money for AirPods Pro was worth it to have comfortable earbuds that would stay in my ears.

But that didn’t quite work out as well as I had hoped. The AirPods Pro earbuds were indeed comfortable, I didn’t mind wearing them at all.
Unfortunately, they would fall out of my ears.
They often fell out of my ears when I moved my jaw. If I wore them while eating or talking, they would drop out of my ears. Sometimes they would fall out when I was walking or running.
If I were quick, I could catch them before they hit the ground. In fact, I got quite good at catching them as I started to anticipate when they would fall.
That situation wasn’t ideal. I realized that if I didn’t catch them in time, I might lose them or drop them in a puddle. I would probably lose or destroy one eventually if I ignored the problem.
I also realized I wasn’t alone with this issue. Other Wonder of Tech readers had asked me about the problem of AirPods Pro earbuds falling out of their ears, particularly while exercising.
My AirPods Pro Solution
Fortunately, I discovered an inexpensive and easy solution to this problem.
About four months ago I ordered the COMPLY Foam Apple AirPods Pro 2.0 Earbud Tips to see if they worked well with the AirPods Pro earbuds. These are black foam tips that easily pop onto the AirPods Pro to replace the original earbud tips.
As of this writing, these earbud tips sell for $24.99 at Amazon.
Sizing
Three pairs of Comply foam earbud tips come in each package. You can order a package with three tips in one size (small, medium, or large) or order a package with all three sizes.
The manufacturer suggests ordering the same size Comply tips as the AirPods Pro earbud tip size that works best for you. If you’re unsure you can order the package that comes with all three sizes of tips.
Installing the Tips
Installing these foam tips is easy. Pull off the original AirPods Pro tips and press the foam ones on.
Replacing the tips takes less than a minute, then you should be ready to use them.
Tips for Using the Tips
Unlike the original AirPods Pro tips, these foam tips require an extra step to use them. Just before you put the AirPods Pro in your ear, squeeze the foam tip to compress it. After you put the earbud in your ear, the foam will expand to fit snugly into your ear.
I have been using these earbud tips on my AirPods Pro since April with much success. They are comfortable and stay in my ears without falling out, for the most part.
The few times they have fallen out of my ears have been the times I just stuck the earbuds in my ears without compressing the foam first.
Pro tip: I have learned not to skip the step of compressing the foam tips before putting them in my ears.
What Else You Need to Know
These foam tips come in black only, which changes the look of the AirPods Pro significantly. If you prefer the look of all-white earbuds, then these foam tips will not give you the look you want.
With the Comply foam tips installed, AirPods Pro will still fit easily into the charging case.
The Comply tips may require some cleaning. Dirt and debris can become embedded into the foam.
The manufacture recommends, “Occasionally cleaning the tips will have a positive effect on their lifespan. The recommended way to clean Comply™ tips is with plain water. Use a damp washcloth to wipe the tips clean. Allow them to air dry before their next use. Never use soap, detergent or alcohol-based cleaners as they will break down the foam.”

Hi Chocho, I hope these earbud tips work as well for you as they have for me. I wanted to use them for a few months before writing about them and they have proven to be the solution to a very annoying problem.

Nice one. I have bought several earpod, but didn’t last. I learned something from your post.

Hi Prince, Well they may not have lasted because they fell out and you lost them. Wireless earbuds can be difficult to find. I have one pair (not AirPods Pro) and had one of them fall out of my ear when I was at home in my bathroom. I still haven’t found it and have no idea where it could be hiding!
