Drive About Number Neighborhood: A Fun-Filled App For Kids to Discover Math!

The estimated reading time for this post is 3 minutes

If you’re traveling with little ones this summer, you may be looking for that ideal app for your trip. You want one that will keep them entertained but also teach them so they’ll arrive a bit smarter than when they left home.

Math Fun App

Drive About: Number Neighborhood is a brand new app, released yesterday by ArtGig, the developers of Mystery Math Town, Marble Math, Shake-a-Phrase, and more. This new educational app is packed with fun mini-games so your children will have no idea that they’re actually learning as they play!

Geared for pre-school and kindergarten students who are learning their numbers, this app takes your kids on a virtual adventure of mini-games. The players embark on a road trip across many different types of terrain, including land, sea and sky, learning basic math skills as they play.

Drive About helps children to have fun while learning:

  • Counting
  • Ordering
  • Matching
  • Number Identification
  • Number Writing

The main screen of the app is a colorful road map to give you a big picture of the game. At stops along the way a player can tap on mini-games to be taken to a new screen. Animations, sounds and voice prompts guide the player through the next steps. You can turn the music on or off, or give your child headphones if you don’t want to hear the music!

Main Screen Drive About App

Drive About contains nine mini-games, including:

  • Snowboard Slalom – guide a yak down a ski slope to touch the flags in numerical order
  • Catch-a-Sea Pickle – tap the sea pickles when the target number pops up
  • Space Vacuum – use the vacuum to collect the proper number of donuts, marbles and more
  • Number Painting – create a masterpiece by matching the colors to the numbers on a drawing
  • Whale Feeding – use a slingshot to feed the proper number of cabbages to the hungry whale

The mini-games use adorable creatures that the players can tap on, move, color and swipe to progress in the game. In addition to engaging a child, the app helps develop fine motor skills as the player maneuvers through the games. For example, in the Cloud Writing mini-game the player traces numbers on the screen to help with learning to write numbers.

Drive About Number Painting

Drive About is filled with helpful cues to help guide children to achieving their goals. Wrong answers are gently rejected while right answers are celebrated, giving players incentive to try to answer correctly.

DriveAboutNumberNeighborhood AppThe quality artwork is colorful and engaging. Hidden treasures are included along the route, so you never know what will happen when you tap on an object!

A Parents Section is available that will give you more information about the app, including the mini-games. You can turn the music on or off within the Parents Section.

Availability

Drive About is available in English, Spanish, French, Russian and Portuguese.

You can get Drive About for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch in the iTunes App Store for $2.99.

An Android version is expected to be released soon. Stay tuned to The Wonder of Tech for updates!

    Hi Carolyn
This is a great solution for parents of those kids who are passing their summer vacations. In older times it was not much challenging to make kids enjoy their summer holidays. Distances were not lengthy, fun options were limited, natural way of living was dominant. Just a tour to nearby picnic resort or to a historical place was sufficient to keep them engage for a fortnight. But now in this age of technology there is no limit of fun. People want to enjoy by just pushing the enter button. Thanks to mushrooming growth of gadgets and apps that makes life easier and now people can enjoy without going out in hustle and bustle of hectic life.
As you pointed out drive about is a cool app and will surely help parents make enjoy their kids this summer.
Thanks a lot for sharing this awesome post.

Hi Mi, Yes, you’re right, in the olden days many parents weren’t as adventuresome in traveling with children. But I can think of quite a few car rides from my childhood where I would have enjoyed entertaining and educational apps! Even an hour car ride seemed like an eternity when there is nothing to do.

With Drive About parents can keep their children occupied and teach them while they’re having fun!

    Hi Carolyn,
This sounds perfect for our little guy who will be 3 in August. He knows numbers and alphabet in 2 languages English and Greek. Kids are so smart these days.
    Thanks for the info.

    Hi Carolyn,

I love the app that could give fun to children. I have not had children though, since I was not married yet, but around me there are a lot of children who often borrow my gadgets just to play games. hahaha 😀

    Thanks for this post, Carolyn.
    Have a nice day. 🙂
