Whether you’re planning a backyard barbecue or a formal dinner party, tech can help you find the best recipes to make your meal a success. The ability to search for ingredients, have recipes handy on the go, make shopping lists and see reviews all add up to tech being a valuable resource for anyone who enjoys good food.
After trying many recipe sites and apps, I now have a go-to source for recipes: Epicurious. Both the Epicurious website and the app provide me with recipes that have become my favorites, making Epicurious the first place I check out when I want to cook.
By combining Epicurious with Pinterest, you can make the best use of both tools to find the best recipes then save them and share them with others.
About Epicurious
Epicurious is available as both a website and an app so you can find recipes at home or on the go. Both the app and the website have many features to make Epicurious my favorite cooking resource, and not necessarily because of the tech. The recipes from Epicurious have full-color photos, ratings, and user comments which all work together to help you find and make great food.
Find a four-fork recipe on Epicurious that sounds tasty and you’re well on your way to making a meal that you’ll love and will impress your guests. I’ve never tried a four-fork recipe on Epicurious that didn’t delight.
User Reviews
No matter how tasty a recipe is, you may be able to make it better with a few tweaks. User reviews may give you helpful information about added ingredients, cooking times, which cookware to use and more.
User reviews can also inform you about how much people enjoyed the recipe. Epicurious includes a percentage of how many people would make the recipe again. After all, isn’t that the true measure of a recipe’s success?
Search
One of the easiest ways to find a recipe is to search using the website or app. You can search for events, recipe names or ingredients to help you find the perfect recipe.
The app lets you search for recipes on the go. Find a farmer’s market with in-season ingredients? Use the Epicurious app to get inspiration about a recipe you can make with the fresh veg!
Tech Features of the Epicurious App
These tech features are an added bonus of the Epicurious app. While these aren’t the reason that Epicurious is my go-to source for recipes, they’re helpful tools in using the app.
The app is well organized and easy to read and navigate. Tap the three stacked lines in the upper right corner of your screen to access your recipe box, shopping list, smart timer and more.
Seasonal Ingredients Finder
Love fresh ingredients? If you allow the Epicurious app to use your location, you can see a list of produce in season in your area. Tap on an ingredient to see a list of recipes using that produce.
Shopping List
Sign up for an account with Epicurious and the app will create a shopping list for you with the ingredients for the recipe. One handy feature of the app is that it suggests ingredients you’ll probably need at the top and separates out ingredients you probably have at the bottom of the list.
Recipe Box
Sign into your account on the app and save any favorite recipes to your recipe box. Your saved recipes from both the app and the website will appear in the recipe box.
Voice Commands
You can use your voice to control the Epicurious app to keep your screen free from smears and smudges while you cook. Tap Voice in any recipe to access the voice commands.
Note that you must first allow access to your microphone in Settings. The app will guide you through those steps.
You can say:
- Up
- Down
- Ingredients
- Preparation
on the recipe screen to control the app.
Smart Timer
The app has a built-in timer you can use to time your recipe. You can adjust the timer up or down if the suggested time doesn’t work for you.
Apple Watch App
Epicurious has an Apple Watch app as a companion for its iPhone app. The Watch app shows the timer you set on your iPhone, the most popular Epicurious recipes and recipes you’ve recently cooked.
