Flight Update Schedules

InstaFlight

Flight Update also has an InstaFlight feature which can give you instant information on available flights. If you get bumped, miss your flight or need immediate flight information, Flight Update can provide it to you.

Features of Flight Update

Flight Update gives you information about flights worldwide and helps you plan your trip. With Flight Update, you can learn:

  • Which terminal and gate your flight is departing and arriving from
  • Which baggage carousel your luggage will be on
  • Actual arrival and departure times for your flight
  • Layover times between flights
  • Weather information at airports
  • Phone numbers and websites for airlines

You can link your calendar to the app so that flight information is mirrored between Flight Update and your calendar. Flight Update can also help you choose your seat by showing you the seating layout of the airplane for your flight.

The app is also handy when you’re picking up people from the airport. You can track the flight and learn if it’s due to arrive on time, late or early. You can also see at which terminal a flight will be arriving and the baggage carousel where your friend’s luggage will be arriving (hopefully!).

Flight Update Screenshots

Flight Update came in very handy for my husband when he was traveling in a far away land. He had to change planes in an airport where English was non-existent. He was pressed for time and could not figure out which gate his connecting flight was leaving from. A bit stressed, he called me back in the US so I could use Flight Update to find out the gate number. Within seconds I was able to tell him which gate he should head to. He made the flight on time (and now has an iPhone).

Push Notifications

You can enable Push Notifications to alert you when your flight has been delayed. This feature alone may be worth the price of the app.

Flight Update Pro

If you’re a frequent traveler and use TripIt to keep track of your travel plans, you may want to upgrade to the Pro version of Flight Update. With the Pro version, you can link the app to TripIt so your flight information is automatically shared between your TripIt account and your Flight Update app.

Availability

Flight Update is available for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch at the iTunes App Store for $4.99. Flight Update Pro is available for $8.99 that adds TripIt integration.

An Internet connection is required for this app to access flight information.

Bottom Line

If you’re a frequent traveler, Flight Update can save you both time and aggravation by providing you with real-time flight data and other information you need for your travels.

Hi Sapna, I’m so glad this will be useful to your husband. Flight Update was probably the first app my husband put on his iPhone. Once he has this app, your husband will wonder how he traveled without it.

    Hi Carolyn,

I haven’t been on a flight and never wanted to ๐Ÿ˜‰

Scheduling trips up to a year in advance? Is this really happening?

Now this is a wonderful application of technology. Actually for a frequent traveler, it would be a time saver if he/she pressed with time ๐Ÿ™‚ The story how your husband was able to find the right gate with the help of this app is a great example. I doubt how many travelers aware of such apps.

This would be a great news for folks who travel a lot ๐Ÿ™‚

    Cheers…

Hi Mayura, Yes, some people book flights a year in advance to take advantage of frequent flier miles they can redeem for flights. Some routes are very competitive so people have to book at midnight one year ahead.

You’re right, this app is great for people who are pressed for time. It’s also great to check the app before you head to the airport to see if your flight is on time. To have this information at your fingertips is very handy.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts even though you’re not a frequent flyer, Mayura! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hi Carolyn

Although I’m not a frequent flyer, this does come in handy! Maybe this is why I don’t like to fly much. There is not enough information until you arrive at the airport and have to deal with so many things going wrong.

Here, in one place, I can obtain the information I need to reduce the stress of flying. Especially weather patterns which come up often during the winter months making flights delay.

All my kids are frequent flyers. One in particular flies at least 3 times a month. I see a stocking stuffer!
    Thanks so much,
    Donna

Hi Donna, You’re right, even if you don’t fly a lot, this app can be a big help, whether on a single trip or when picking up someone from the airport. Weather delays in the winter can mean big travel nightmares, but you can be better prepared to handle the issues with Flight Update.

Your kids will definitely appreciate this app, Donna!

Ahh.. This is something really useful. Like we have the navigation systems in our smartphone through which we access the maps, our location and destination, similarly this app works as a solution to all the flight related problems. We can easily access all the details about the flight when we are traveling.

Hi Smith, You’re right, this is an incredibly useful app. If you’re a frequent air traveler, this app alone can be enough reason to invest in a smartphone. When I travel by air, I wonder how people survive without this app. It’s that good.

Hi Carolyn, Thanks for sharing Flight Update. I know of it, though haven’t used it myself. I’ve used other apps, though, and can say from experience that if you have a smart phone, and are traveling by air, a flight tracking app is an absolute must. I’ve learned about gate changes, flight changes, and other important on the go flight information from air travel apps. I am a big fan of TripIt, which you also mentioned. Another great app.

Hi Carol, Yes, I think traveling is a great reason to have a smartphone. It can serve as your information hub, GPS, compass, camera and translator. Once you have a smartphone, it’s difficult to imagine traveling without one!

Which flight tracking apps do you use?

    Hey Carolyn,
Excellent list of app! Flight Update is the best app I have come across so far. Apart from this, WorldMate Live (for Blackberry phone) is the best travel app that includes an itinerary manager, hotel booking, up to the minute flight info, maps, and weather forecasts. There are many more features this app can handle. Best thing is it is free of cost for all blackberry users. Thanks for sharing this post!

Carolyn, thanks for writing about this. I haven’t been a frequent traveler for years and just recently started up again with some speaking presentations. The time I have the most problem is during layovers when I’m in an unfamiliar airport and need that timely info. Thanks!
