Freedive — A New Free Video Streaming Service from IMDb

The estimated reading time for this post is 3 minutes

Your choice of free videos to watch just increased greatly with the launch of Freedive, a free streaming service from IMDb. Freedive is filled with highly rated TV shows and movies for adults and kids, plus IMDb original programming.

Freedive Video Streaming Service IMDb

IMDb is owned by Amazon, which recently announced the launch of Freedive on Twitter via its @amazonfiretv account:

Introducing #Freedive, a new way to start streaming shows and movies for free on Fire TV from @IMDb. Learn more: https://t.co/t9bpomxiJ4 pic.twitter.com/Xezpdes0lw

— Fire TV 📺 (@amazonfiretv) January 10, 2019

You can watch all of the titles for free on Freedive, if you’re willing to watch some ads. There’s no subscription fee or any other fee to watch the titles on Freedive.

Similar to Tubi TV, Freedive is supported by advertising. In order to watch videos for free on Freedive you’ll have to watch some ads during the TV shows and movies.

Finding Videos to Watch on Freedive

The selection of free videos to watch on Freedive includes titles that are highly rated on IMDB. Freedive emphasizes quality over quantity. Think dozens, not hundreds of videos. While you may not find a selection as extensive as Netflix or Hulu, you should find something you’ll enjoy watching.

The titles are organized into categories such as:

  • Top Rated Movies
  • Comedies
  • Action and Adventure
  • Date Night Picks
  • For the Whole Family
  • Chills and Thrills
  • IMDb Staff Picks
  • Hits of the 80’s
  • Documentaries

Scroll through each category to find titles to watch. As of now, you can’t search for a title on Freedive. But IMDb listings include a link to watch the show, if it’s available on Freedive.

Current sample titles include:

Movies

  • Memento
  • Donnie Brasco
  • Foxcatcher
  • Awakenings
  • The Last Samurai
  • A Few Good Men
  • Les Misérables
  • Legends of the Fall
  • St. Elmo’s Fire

TV Shows

  • The Bachelor/Bachelorette
  • Quantum Leap
  • Gilligan’s Island
  • Without a Trace
  • Duck Dynasty
  • Fringe
  • Dallas (original series)

Kids TV Shows and Movies

  • Fly Away Home
  • Stuart Little
  • Monster House
  • Madeline
  • Sabrina the Teenage Witch
  • My Magic Dog

But these titles will change, and those changes might be frequent. Freedive doesn’t say how long it will make a movie or TV show available, your favorites might be gone at any time.

IMDb Staff Picks

The IMDb website says, “The selection of titles included with Freedive is always changing, and titles you’re interested in might become available in the future. We’re constantly working to improve our catalog to ensure that customers have access to the best selection of movies and TV shows possible.”

In other words, if you find something you want to watch on Freedive, don’t delay!

How to Watch Freedive Videos

Freedive is available on the IMDb website at the Freedive page. You can also watch Freedive on Amazon Fire TV devices at the IMDb Freedive channel.

When you arrive at the site, scroll through the titles. Hover over the image, then click the Play arrow. (If you click the title you’ll be taken to the IMDb listing for the show.)

If you’re watching a TV series, you’ll be shown the choice of seasons and episodes. Choose the one you want to watch and press the Play button.

Sit, back, relax and enjoy the show!

What Else You Need to Know About Freedive

IMDb does not offer a paid option to get rid of the ads or an option to purchase or rent the videos on Freedive. If you don’t want to watch ads you can use a paid streaming service or buy/rent the title instead.

IMDb suggest heading to Amazon Video if you want to buy or rent Freedive videos.

The only option to watch Freedive videos is streaming, you can’t download the videos to watch later.

You must log into IMDb to use Freedive, either with your account on IMDb or Amazon .

Freedive is currently available only in the United States. IMDb has not yet indicated whether the free service will be expanded to other countries in the future.

Hi Maneen, Yes, Dallas was a wonderful series that captured a wide audience and the news when it first aired. Freedive does not currently announce when shows are leaving its site so watch as much as you can before Dallas is gone from Freedive.
