How to Use a Kindle Ereader to Organize Your Kindle Books into Collections
Read below to learn how to create Kindle Collections using your computer.
If you’ve been reading Kindle books for a while, you may have accumulated hundreds or even thousands of books by now. But trying to find which books you want to read in your library may be a challenge.
Whether you’re reading Kindle books on a Kindle ereader, phone, tablet or your computer, you may want an easy way to find books in your library.
Kindle Collections
The good news is that you can easily organize your library of Kindle books into collections. You may want to create collections for:
- Books I’ve Read
- Books I Want to Read
- Unread Books I May Get to Some Day
- Fiction
- Non-Fiction
- Best Sellers
- Books I Want to Lend to Others
- Reference Books
- Favorite Books
As you look at books in your Kindle library, you may find titles fall naturally into categories you can create collections for. Or you may use collections to sort books you’ve read from books you haven’t read yet.
Collections sync to the Cloud so if you create a collection on one device, you’ll be able to see it on other devices.
You can add books to multiple collections. So you can add a book to both your Unread and Fiction collections, for example.
If you delete a collection, the books in it will not be deleted.

How To Create Kindle Collections
Creating collections for your Kindle books is very easy. By taking a few moments to create a collection, you can start organizing your Kindle books.
Creating a Collection on the Amazon Website
You can create Kindle collections from the Amazon website. This may be the most efficient way to create a collection because you can sort your entire Kindle library into collections from the site.
Go to Manage Your Content and Devices and click Show: Collections from the drop-down menu.
A page will open showing your collections (if you have any). Click the Create New Collection button to create a new collection.
After you have created a collection go to Show: Books. Each Kindle book in your library will be shown there.
Click on the three dot button next to a book. Choose Add to Collection to add your books to your collections.
You can also create a collection from the Books page. When you click on the three dots next to a book, and choose Add to collections, you can start typing in the box to create a new collection. After you’re satisfied with the name of your new collection, choose “create new collection [name of collection]. ” Click the Add to collection button to add the book to your new collection.
To see the collection on your device, go to the menu and choose Sync and Check for New Items. The new collections should appear.

Hi Carolyn,
Happy Monday 🙂
Informative post indeed! Although I don’t have a Kindle reader, but I do manage to read them on my laptop as and when I find the time. But I love the idea or organizing them the way you mentioned here, and would surely check it out on Amazon! Makes sense to have it all easily placed in various folders as well.
Thanks for sharing this with us. Have a nice week ahead 🙂

Hi Harleena, Yes, as the years go by our Kindle libraries will continue to grow. But keeping track of the books will become increasingly challenging unless we take the time to organize them. We can take a short time and organize our Kindle books so we can find them more easily later.

Wow, Carolyn! Thanks for this! I just spent 30 minutes going over the 80 books I’ve accumulated on my Kindle, some I’ve forgotten I had! Now they are all organized into collections! This was time well spent – I have a lot of wonderful resources in that little Kindle!
I was also surprised to see how many books I added to this collection:
“Books by people I know.”
🙂

Hi Lori, That’s a very cool collection to have! How great that you know so many published authors, especially being one yourself.
I’m glad you took the time to organize your books into collections. I hope you enjoy having your Kindle books organized now.

Hi Carolyn
The biggest dilemma of book lovers is what to read now and what to read afterwards.
I also pick a lot of books on different places to add them on cart but then most of the time forget what I added where.
So your advice is more than useful to first pick the favorite ones, store them and then read as and when one has time.
Nice post indeed. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Mi, Yes, how many times have we loaded up on books, but then when it’s time to start the next one we don’t know where to begin? By taking time to create collections, we can organize our Kindle libraries much better!

Reading books on kindle are really nice thing but when it comes to organised the books it’s always a difficult task for me but I must say that this article is really very amazing and I really liked the way you describe step by step that is simply amazing.
Thanks Carolyn for sharing this article.

Hi Laura, Yes, as the years go by and we keep adding Kindle book to our library, it becomes increasingly important to keep those book organized. Imagine going to your local library and all of the books are randomly put on shelves. You probably would walk out quickly, giving up hope of finding what you wanted.
Keeping our Kindle libraries organized will help us find the ebooks we want quickly and easily.
Thanks for your kind comment, Laura!
