If you’re planning to shop online for the holidays, you should check out Mr. Rebates, a referral site that gives you cash rebates for shopping online. When you shop online through Mr. Rebates, rebates are credited to your account. Then at the end of the month, quarter, or however often you redeem them, you get paid rebates in cash by Mr. Rebates. They can either send you a check in the mail or give you a credit in your PayPal account (your choice) so you can shop some more online!
It’s easy to get started. You can sign up directly with mrrebates.com or through my Mr. Rebates referral link. Sign up using your email address and home address so they can send you rebate checks. It costs nothing to join. In fact, they even give you $5 for joining.
Whenever you shop online, go to Mr. Rebates first to see if the online store you want to visit is on Mr. Rebates. The rebates range from a few dollars to 25%. To get a rebate added to your Mr. Rebates account, go to the site and search for the store you want. You can type the name of the store in the search box, search alphabetically and by category.
Select your store and you will see the amount of the rebate as well as any coupons available for the store. Click on the link to the store and you will go to the store’s website. Just be sure that when you actually make your purchase (just putting items in your shopping cart won’t give you the rebate) you have arrived at the site by clicking through a link at Mr. Rebates.
For example, if you’re planning on travelling for the holidays, go to Mr. Rebates to see which travel website (Expedia 2%, Orbitz 1%, Travelocity 2%, hotels.com 5%) is offering the better rebate that day. You can also compare hotels directly through Mr. Rebates (Staybridge Suites 5%, Holiday Inn 5%, Best Western 3%, Sheraton 2%), check the airlines (Virgin Atlantic 2%), and see rental car rebates (Avis 3%, Enterprise 2%). Don’t always go with which site has the better rebate, be sure look at the best deal/rebate combination.
Mr. Rebates isn’t just for travel. Mr. Rebates has over 2000 online stores, some favorites are:
Target 4%
Sears 5%
Walmart 3%
Nordstrom 4%
Bloomingdale’s 3%
Coldwater Creek 4%
Macy’s 3%
QVC 4%
Home Depot 4%
Vistaprint 6%
drugstore.com 6%
eBags 10%
Mr. Rebates is currently offering a 15% off coupon for Virgin Mobile Beyond Talk phones: Virgin Mobile on Mr. Rebates. (See, Your Remedy for iPhone Envy! for more information on Virgin Mobile Beyond Talk plans.)
Rebate amounts change frequently so make sure you check with Mr. Rebates before making your purchase decisions.
Your rebates become available for payment 90 days after you make a purchase through Mr. Rebates. You can request to be paid either by having a check mailed to your address or having the funds deposited directly into your PayPal account, your choice.
Mr. Rebates is featuring a store of the week in the right sidebar of their site. This week the featured store is hotels.com with a rebate of 5% instead of 4%. Next week Nordstrom will be the featured store.
During the holiday season, Mr. Rebates will be having special rebate promotions, with increased rebates and special coupons for hundreds of participating stores. The Cash-Back Christmas promotion runs from November 1 through December 31.
When your friends join Mr. Rebates through your email invitation, you will get a small rebate every time they use Mr. Rebates, 20% of their rebate. It’s not much, generally pennies a purchase, but every little bit adds up.
Check out this video explaining how to use Mr. Rebates:
Mr. Rebates doesn’t cover every store. Amazon and Zappos are not on Mr. Rebates. eBay rebates have been suspended since June but will hopefully return soon. But with over 2000 stores on Mr. Rebates, you may find just the store you’re looking for or discover some new ones.
Before you shop online next time, be sure to check out Mr. Rebates for rebates that might make your holiday shopping a bit jollier!

Great post Carolyn,
You find the coolest sites to share with us. I had no idea this even existed until now. Where in the world do you find this stuff? However you do it, I’m glad you share it with us.
Great video by the way. Wonderful job on taking us through the site and showing us how this works. I love learning like this. I find it so helpful.
Your post is live on the Inquirer so congratulations on this ongoing contribution. Has it become permanent yet? Sure hope so.
As always, thanks again. So glad I have you to help me learn these things.

That’s a great website and a great post, Carolyn. 😀 no wonder The Philadelphia Inquirer picked it. I tried checking it on the website but didn’t find it. I just checked it through the link you posted here. This is the second time they pick your posts, right? Their website has a PR of 8. 😀 That’s a very valuable link. 🙂
Happy for you!

That’s really cool. I might have to get more shopping done online now. If they had Amazon, all my online shopping would be complete.
Thanks,
Bryce
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Bryce, Actually, Mr. Rebates does have Amazon listed, but it does not have a rebate for Amazon. If they did, I would have very large Mr. Rebates rebates!
I hope you earn big rebates from Mr. Rebates, Bryce!

Hi Carolyn,
Congratulations for your continuous patronage at Philadelphia Inquirer and my wishes.
The site looks so cool. When we do bulk shopping, it will help a lot to save your wallet very well. I use to check following sites often for best deals before I shop around – Slickdeals, Dealsofamerica, Fatwallet, dealcatcher and Deals2buy. It helps most times to find the right deal.
Thanks for sharing the post and I believe you have posted at right time before our friends have start their holiday shopping 🙂
I am happy about that. 🙂
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Manickam, Yes, I wanted people to know about this site before they started their holiday shopping and making travel plans. The rebates can really grow quickly if you remember to click on Mr. Rebates before you start to shop.
Thank you for your good wishes. I am thrilled to be at The Inquirer. I grew up in Philadelphia reading The Inquirer, and never imagined I would be writing for them. Very cool! 🙂

Carolyn, aloha. WOW! What a find. Thanks so much for this great info. Receiving rebates for something you would buy anyway is always so much fun.
What I want for Christmas is to have Santa add Amazon to the list. Now that would “make my day.”
Before commenting here, I commented on the Inquirer. It’s possible I even tweeted a message, however, I am not sure. The comment I know yet there was some other little box that disappeared so perhaps I tweeted it too.
Carolyn, since people will appreciate knowing about this, you can count on me to spread the word. Until next time, my friend, aloha. Janet
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Janet, Yes, Mr. Rebates is a fantastic site. The site does list Amazon, but they don’t have a rebate for Amazon. That would be truly fantastic!
Thanks so much for reading the Inquirer article and commenting there as well. I appreciate your spreading the word about The Inquirer as well!
Enjoy your savings! 🙂

Hi, Carolyn
Sorry I haven’t stopped by for a while. I first learned about MrRebates.com from you a few months ago. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! However, I didn’t realize that Walmart, Sears and Target were on the list. I shop at these stores often, so the rebates will come in handy, especially during the holidays. Very nice, thank you.
See you soon and have a wonderful evening!
Allyson
