OLV: Do You Want to Be a Star?

The estimated reading time for this post is 2 minutes

Have you always dreamed of being a movie star? I thought so. You may have been waiting for your big break for your entire life. Well, tech has a way to make your dreams come true.

Whether you want to appear in films or are wondering why Brad Pitt just walked by your office window, the website On Location Vacations (OLV) is your source for discovering where movies and TV shows are currently being filmed. Recently I wrote about a website, 100 Years of Movie Locations, showing you which movies were filmed at locations around the world. But if you want to find out ahead of time where a movie or TV show is being filmed, you should check out OLV.

OLV Brad Pitt

OLV lists filming sites for various movies and TV shows and sometimes publicizes casting calls for extras. You can check the site, which is updated regularly, for filming locations and requests for extras. If you live in New York or California, you will probably have your pick of locations to visit on a daily basis. But filming locations are listed world-wide and you can search for your location within the site.

The site lists daily filming locations as well as events, such as celebrity events, film festivals, special screenings, etc. Photos from filming locations are posted on the site as well, including photos of OLV fans with stars kind enough to take time to pose for a picture.

If you discover a filming location you can notify the site so they can add the information to their list. If you’re lucky enough to get your picture taken with a star, you can submit it to OLV and they may post it on their site.

OLV Hunger Games

OLV may also be the inspiration for your next vacation. The site posts ideas for vacation destinations based upon film and TV locations. If you are looking for a vacation to replicate the experience of the Tributes in the Hunger Games, OLV suggests a tour for you: Do You Have What It Takes to Survive the Hunger Games?

If you’ve admired, as I have, the woman who climbs to the top of the rock in the Citibank commercials, OLV can help you replicate her adventure. Check out Where You Can Climb That Rock from the Citibank Commercial (and Yes, It’s Real). Bad news, though, you missed the casting call asking for climbers willing to appear in the commercial.

To stay on top of late-breaking news from OLV, you can like their Facebook Page and follow them on Twitter @OLV.

Have you ever happened upon a movie being filmed and wondered what it was? Have you ever wanted to appear in a film? Have you ever wanted to plan a vacation based on a film location? Are you already a movie star? Let us know in the Comments section below!

Note: If you’re already a movie star, feel free to pass this on to friends of yours who are not yet movie stars (that is, if you have any non-movie star friends).

Disclaimer: Visiting OLV in no way guarantees an appearance on Dancing with the Stars, Celebrity Apprentice or I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!

*************************

I am on a vacation that does not include rock climbing, surviving the Hunger Games or visiting any movie set. I will return to respond to comments on April 9. Please be sure to check back here often because I will be posting articles while I am away.

    Great post Carolyn.
Too bad that I missed the casting for the commercial. I’m a rock-climber for so many years and still I haven’t see myself on TV ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Nick, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! Keep climbing, Nick, you never know when the cameras will be rolling. Also be sure to follow OLV on Twitter to find out about the next casting call for rock climbers.

I have always loved that commercial. Very cool. :-bd

Thank you, Andrew, I’m glad you enjoyed this article. But my name is Carolyn, not Adrienne, lol. I take your error as a compliment as Adrienne is truly amazing! (*)

I agree with Betsy there Carolyn!

I think more than me, my kids are not in that age where movies and movie stars influence them much more. OLV would be perfect for them, and I am just going to be emailing them this post and let’s see what they come out with. Brad Pitt is one of my favorites though, so thanks for putting up his picture here. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Thanks for sharing ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Harleena, When I lived in New York City we would see cameras filming videos constantly. I wish I knew about this site then because it would have been very cool to stop by sets where my favorite stars were filming.

We have had some films made in our area as well so I am definitely following OLV. If I see Brad, I will send him your regards. (*)

So I joined a site a few years back and it gives me all the locations of anything coming up for musicians, commercials, movies and TV shows. It’s a members only site and you pay a fee for a year and that’s the site I joined to find out if there were any casting calls in my area for extras. That’s how I located the movie I was in. Luckily for me, I didn’t make any casting calls within the first 90 days so my investment was refunded and I got to use the site for free.

The bad thing is that there aren’t many things being filmed here in my city, only every place else. But it was really cool to see all the things that are up and coming.

I’ve watched a couple movies being filmed before so it’s a cool experience. My nephew might get a kick out of this one so I’ll be sure to pass this one along. When he’s home from working on the cruise ship, he’s really bored. He’s such a great actor I would love for him to try out for some parts. He’s be so great.

Hi Adrienne, Wow, I didn’t know there was a site you could pay for. Luckily, OLV is free. If you don’t have many shows filmed in your area, no need to pay for a site. I’m wondering if your site lists many more sets than OLV to make it worth paying for.

        April 10, 2012 at 10:57 am

Well when I signed up they of course entice you in telling you that there are so many things being filmed in our area. Yeah, little plays and stuff but I just wanted a part as an extra just to experience that. There isn’t much coming to Houston to be filmed which is why to me it wasn’t worth the money but I got it totally refunded anyway so it was free to me.

They list everything being filmed all over the US. Movies, TV shows and commercials so it’s pretty cool. It doesn’t always give you much more information than that. This actually puts you in touch with the directors though which is what makes this different.

Great to see Jason stop by.. Always nice to see his smiling face.

        Thanks Carolyn!

I could see maybe if you were in NY or LA and wanted to be cast to launch your career, the investment would be worthwhile. That’s great that they came through with the refund. What is the name of the site?

It use to be Talent6 but they either changed hands or were bought out. It’s now called casting360.

Very cool. I may just have to write about that site too. Thanks for another inspiration for today, Adrienne!

    Hi Carolyn,

This is such a fun idea. I’m sure my cousin would be jumping when I tell him about OLV. He’s always changing hair dos to match the latest trends from Hollywood movies.

I haven’t seen any movie being filmed, so I would love to grab the first opportunity to do that. The idea of vacation destinations based upon films is also pretty exciting. Thanks for sharing this awesome website with us. Cheers ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Sarah, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! I’m so glad you enjoyed this article and found it useful. I agree, planning a vacation based upon a favorite movie sounds like a great idea. A Titanic cruise would be fun, without the sinking part, of course! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hi Carolyn,

I hope you’ve been enjoying your vacation. I’m currently on the ferry from Denmark to Sweden and reading your post makes me think about my next vacation ๐Ÿ™‚

I love watching movies. I don’t want to be a star, but I’d love to see what’s going on behind the scenes.

Thanks a lot for sharing. I’ll bookmark it.
