Pinterest Announces New Tools to Arrange Your Boards and Pins
Q. Help! I’m a big fan of Pinterest and I’ve been enjoying reading all of your articles on using Pinterest. I’ve created a lot of different Pinterest boards now and they’re a mess on my profile page.
I can’t figure out how Pinterest is arranging them and I can never find the one I want. I have over 100 boards and I’m constantly hunting to find the one I want.
This issue is only going to get worse for me the more I use Pinterest. I’ve gotten to the point that I don’t want to create any new boards because I know won’t be able to find them!
Can you tell me if there’s a setting I can use or some way so I can arrange my Pinterest boards so I can find them better?
A. You’re right, if you have a lot of Pinterest boards, finding one on your profile page can be challenging. I’m not sure how Pinterest arranges them. They aren’t chronological or alphabetical. They don’t arrange them by group vs. individual boards either.
The good news is that there’s a very easy way to arrange your Pinterest boards on your profile page. You can quickly organize your boards to make your Pinterest work much better for you.
How to Arrange Your Pinterest Boards
Go to your profile page on Pinterest by clicking on your name in the upper left corner of the screen.
You should see your boards arranged in a grid. If you don’t, then click on the Boards tab in the menu under the Profile box.
Click on a board then drag and drop it to the place you want it to be. Put it anywhere you want, the other boards move out of the way.
Voila! You’ve just rearranged your boards!
Note that you must arrange your boards on your computer. You can’t use the Pinterest app or a mobile browser to arrange your boards on your Profile Page.
Ideas for Arranging Your Pinterest Boards
You can arrange your Pinterest boards alphabetically or by interest. You can keep your individual boards separate from your group boards or mix them in together.
You may get visitors to your Pinterest profile page who want to explore your boards. Consider putting any boards you want to feature in the top row of the grid. You may want to feature seasonal boards, such as Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas boards at the top during those holidays.
Secret boards are already separate from your public boards, at the bottom of your Profile Page. You can arrange your secret boards too, but you must keep them on the bottom in the Secret area. Shh…

Alphabetical Board List
When you pin or re-pin an image on Pinterest using the website or mobile app, you’re shown a list of your boards in alphabetical order:
You don’t have the ability to arrange this list so be mindful when you name your Pinterest board where the title will be placed in that list. If one of your favorite boards is about your favorite apps, you may want to name it “Apps that Rock” rather than “Top Apps” so that board will be near the top of your list.

Hi Carolyn,
I am so glad you raised this question as I had someone on G+ also ask me about it, so now I can re-direct them right here 🙂
Yes, if someone has so many boards, it can become tough to rearrange them if one doesn’t know how to. I know I’d also faced the same problems, but not any more, especially when I read about it a few months back and even the main site has some tutorial written about how one can do it.
I usually have them set up according to my interest and how I want people to see them, once they visit my profile and I can always change the boards depending on how I want them, so that is always interesting.
Thanks for sharing. Have a nice weekend, and Happy Halloween 🙂

Hi Harleena, Yes, I didn’t even think about doing this until I got the question from a reader. When i discovered how easy it was to do, I knew I had to write an article to share this information with Wonder of Tech readers.
You’re right, your profile page can be much more effective when you’ve arranged your boards the way you want to!

Hi carolyn; thanks for sharing this. currently i am not having trouble finding boards but only have 17 counting group boards. but i would love to reorder my boards alphabetically. however, drag and drop isn’t easy when you are using a screen reader. for example I can’t seem to choose a different board when pinning from a website. so i have to copy a link and upload the photo i want for each board i want to post to. takes more time but at least i get my posts out. would love it if you have any settings I could change to make the Pinterest site easier to use with my screen reader. And that suggestion about moving boards to the top of the grid based on what people wil most likely be searching for. and if there isn’t an obvious hot topic people can always check twitter or other sources to see what is being searched for. hanks for sharing and take care, Max

Hi Maxwell, Yes, I don’t know of any settings in Pinterest to make it easier for visually impaired people to use the site. I have notified Pinterest requesting that they add settings to make the site easier to use for those who are visually impaired.
I will keep you posted if I learn of any updates to Pinterest that would be helpful for you, Maxwell.
maxwell ivey says
hi i don’t know of any such settings either. i wrote them a while back too. they told me the problem with selecting boards would be addressed in a future update. so far no change. thanks for the help. if enough people ask about it then they are more likely to do something about accessibility. take care, max
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Yes, Maxwell, I took a survey at Pinterest about what new feature I’d like to see most and a one-button arrangement of boards into alphabetical order was one of the choices.
I hope that’s coming soon!

Thank you Carolyn,
I have not taken too much interest in my Pinterest account too seriously in the past. FB, Twitter and G+ being my top three.
Guess its worth a second look as my passion is photography.
I could probably pin a lot of photos in various categories.
You have just kindled an new interest…One more!
Thank you,
Nick

Hi Nick, Yes. some people take a while to get interested in Pinterest while others dive right in. I’m a huge fan of PInterest, I’m using it as a search tool, organizer, planner, and respite from the world.
You can use Pinterest for so many purposes in learning but you can also use Pinterest for sharing. You never know which photo you share will catch the eye of others and be shared widely around the world.
I’m so glad you’re going to give Pinterest a go. Thanks so much for taking the time to let me know.

Quick and easy tip to arrange the pinterest board. I guess I’m gonna have to follow your tips.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Samir, Yes, tech doesn’t need to be complex, but sometimes it’s so easy that we don’t know how to do it. I never thought of arranging my Pinterest boards until I got this question from a reader but I’m so glad that now everyone can know!
Pankaj says
Hi Carolyn,
I have been using this technique for last few months, and its super easy way to arrange your Pinterest boards. As your already mentioned, you must name their boards logically so that they can find what you’re looking for.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Pankaj, Yes, you’re right, this is super easy. Don’t you love it when tech isn’t a challenge? But if you don’t know how to do this then it can be challenging.
Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts with us, Pankaj!

Thank you Carolyn! Although I’m still not that active in Pinterest this is something that I would like to know how to do. I just keep forgetting to pin stuff because I’m not use to using it. Urggggg
But I would like to clean up my account and try to get more active. I’ll just have to do better with this and I thank you for teaching me how to organize my boards now.
Yay, I learned something new today.
Great share Carolyn, thank you so much.

Hi Adrienne, You’re right, it’s important to get into the Pinterest habit. When you see an article or image that you want to share with others, you can think Twitter/Facebook first but make sure also to think Pinterest.
Yes, when you tidy up the arrangement of your boards, you make your profile page easier for you and your visitors to navigate. By taking a few minutes to arrange your boards, you can make the most of your Pinterest profile page.

Hi Carolyn,
Pinterest is a great way to discover things and pin images that attract you. Though, personally I haven’t done this as usually I focus more on reading new things. But, that’s not in the case of other social networks. That clearly means I have not came across the arrangement thing yet. But, I now know what to do before pinning images to it. Thanks to this post that I discovered how to do things now.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Aditya, Yes, the more you use Pinterest the more you realize how useful it is. Yes, you can pin images to share them but you can also use it as a very cool search engine. With Guided Search you can filter results or research in a different direction.
You’re right, arranging your Pinterest boards is easy but so few people do that. Within a few minutes you can make the most of your profile page to make it easier for you and others to find your boards!
