The estimated reading time for this post is 3 minutes
When you pin on Pinterest, you want to make sure that as many people see it as possible. The timing of your pin may make a big difference in whether your pin gets seen, Liked and repinned. If timing is everything then you’ll want to make the most of your Pinterest pins by using Buffer to schedule your pins.
Buffer recently paired with Pinterest to allow scheduling pins using the Buffer app. Now you can decide when your pin will appear on Pinterest by using Buffer.
You can schedule your pins when people are most likely to see them. You can also pin an image to several boards, with your pins spaced out over time so you don’t look spammy by flooding Pinterest with the same pin to multiple boards at the same time.
[tip]Read below to find out when and how frequently you should pin on Pinterest![/tip]
Getting Started with Buffer and Pinterest
Go to buffer.com/pinterest and link your Pinterest account to Buffer.
You can then go to your Buffer dashboard and set your schedule for pinning. You can set a custom schedule for Pinterest that’s different than your other social media accounts on Buffer. Be sure to check your time zone to make sure it’s your local time.
You can set your schedule for the same time every day or for different times, depending on the day of the week.
[note] Note that scheduling pins is only available for paid Buffer accounts but if you don’t have a paid account you can get a 7-day free trial to check it out. You can use those seven days to schedule a lot of pins for the future and see how scheduling pins makes a difference for you! [/note]
Pinning Using Buffer
The easiest way to pin using Buffer is by using the Buffer Chrome extension. When you use that extension you’ll see the Share Image button when you hover your cursor over an image.
Click on Share Image to open the Buffer window, then click on the Pinterest icon. (Be sure to un-select Twitter if you don’t want to tweet the image when you pin it.)
Choose the board you want to pin the image to. Then you can click on the down arrow on the blue button to:
- Add to Queue
- Share Next
- Share Now
- Schedule Post
This video from Buffer shows you how to app pins from the Buffer dashboard:
Note that your Secret Boards don’t show up as an option in Buffer. I’m not sure whether that’s because Pinterest really wants to keep your Secret Boards secret (even from Buffer) or because there isn’t a compelling reason to schedule pins to a Secret Board. Maybe both?

Buffer Analytics
You can go to your Buffer dashboard to see how your pins from Buffer have been doing. Buffer Analytics shows you how much your pins have been liked, repinned and commented upon. You can see your most and least popular pins and set the time period for your analytics.

Knowing When to Pin
Now that you can schedule your pins, you need to know when the best time is to pin. The Pinterest blog gives us insights into when to pin:
“Hereβs a look at the most popular categories on each day of the week:
- Monday: the week starts with good intentions in fitness
- Tuesday: next up, gadgets are all the rage in technology
- Wednesday: need a little something to get through the week β inspirational quotes
- Thursday: threads lead Thursday with fashion
- Friday: GIFs bring some comic relief to the end of the week with humor
- Saturday: summer vacations are top of mind with travel

Hi Carolyn,
That sure is good news π
Yes, I use the Buffer Chrome extension and that makes the sharing much easier for me, though now if you have Pinterest added to Buffer, it would make it all the more easy to schedule your pins for Pinterest too – that is really awesome news.
I just signed up for the free trial for a week, and lets see how it goes. I remember your day guide to post what on Pinterest, but do you really follow that…lol…I just pin away as and when what comes in-front of me, without giving much thought to the days. Just asking whether you tried to be day specific and it made a difference.
Thanks for sharing, and your post on my blog – ROCKS! Appreciate it a great deal. Have a nice week ahead π

Hi Harleena, Yes, scheduling your posts on Pinterest can be a good idea. You’re not supposed to pin to multiple boards all at once, best to spread them out over time. You can pin an image from a post and then schedule it to be pinned again to another board later in the week, month or even year.
You’re right, I don’t follow the guide on when to pin. Many of my pins are tech related and I don’t want to be posting only on Tuesdays! But now with Buffer I may want to pin later in the day. Often I pin early in the day because that’s when I’m publishing and reading.
I am trying to schedule some pins for later in the day to see if that makes a difference. Evenings tend to be a busy time on Pinterest but in the evenings I’m usually busy with my family so I wouldn’t have time to pin then. With Buffer I can pin later in the day and see if that makes a difference!

Hey dear friend!
Been sometime since I drop by here. How have you been?
On the side, I was surprised that Buffer integrated Pinterest into the platform. Honestly, have NOT integrated it due to lack of space but I think I should! Haha.
Going to give it a try tomorrow and thanks for sharing dear friend! Appreciate the write up.

Hi Reginald, Yes definitely give Buffer + Pinterest a try. It’s free for seven days so why not check it out? Scheduling your pins may make a big difference in how many people see them.

Hi Carolyn,
I am using Buffer every day, but I have only tried it for Pinterest a few times. I’m still not a regular user of Pinterest. The new feature is awesome and I’m sure that it’ll help me get started again with Pinterest and hopefully it’ll help me continue using it on a regular basis as well.
I had no idea about the best topics to post during each day of the week. That’s great information. Thank you Carolyn.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Jens, Great point! You can use Buffer to tweet and pin all at once so you don’t have to take an extra step to use Pinterest. If you’re using Buffer already just link your Pinterest account and click on the Pinterest and Twitter icons to tweet and pin at the same time.
You can use Buffer for Pinterest at your own blog and at other websites to make the most of this feature.

Hi Carolyn,
I’m so glad to see it up and running now. I added mine today. I try to pin it on Saturdays as I learned a long time ago it was the best day to pin. I do it at different times though evenings do seem to work better and Buffer will help me with that since I’m a morning person π
Thank you for sharing about this and with the great tips too.
Have a wonderful day!
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Lisa, I’m glad you’ve linked your Pinterest and Buffer accounts. I should try pinning on Saturdays more. That’s my lightest traffic day here at The Wonder of Tech so maybe pinning that day could make a difference.
Happy pinning, Lisa!

Hi Kimsea, That’s great you’re already using Buffer. I hope you enjoy using it for Pinterest now too. I think you’ll find the ability to schedule your pins to be very handy!
Altamash Sid says
Hi Carolyn,
I hope that you are doing well.
About you this post Carolyn, I never ever scheduled anything on pinterest. Do you really think it make any difference if followed according to timing?
I mean as in the personal branding campaigns for me, clients, company, brands and readers or in building customer relationship we mostly focus on top social media sites which is facebook, twitter, linkedIn for scheduling posts according to day-posting strategy but,
For the average social media site like pinterest I don’t think that would make any difference in productivity but it can used as for bulk scheduling.
P.S. the best part of your post to tell us that one can now schedule their pins.
Thanks for sharing this post, have a good day!
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Altamash, I have to defer to the experts about the importance of scheduling your pins. I just started scheduling according to Buffer so I can’t really vouch for the impact of scheduling. You can try it for seven days free and see if it makes a difference.
Thank you, I shared this information about timing because it was the best evidence I could find that scheduling pins makes a difference. But the best judge of that is you! π
