How do you feel about 3D technology? With the Nintendo 3DS launch this week, many Wonder of Tech readers have marveled at the amazing special effects of 3D on their new devices. Others have said they are satisfied with 2D. How do you feel?
Here is a video from CNET in March that demonstrates some Nintendo 3DS games:
Amazon Android App Store has a great game for its free app of the day: Fruit Ninja! Check it out at Amazon’s Android App Store!

I like 3D in the movies, but I can’t seeing buying a 3D tv even though the prices have dropped so much. It’s the glasses that are holdin me back. They cost a lot and if I want to have friends over to watch a game, that’ll cost me big bucks to get glasses for everybody. If tvs could be like this DS game and not need glasses, I would get one.

Hi Shawn, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! The Nintendo 3DS seems to be a big hit so I’m sure engineers are working hard to develop 3D tv’s without the viewer needing to wear glasses. The first company to come out with such a tv will probably have a big hit too!

I recently got a 3D tv (Samsung LN46C750), but that was only cuase it was the same price as another tv I was looking at but also newer and slightly better features. Glasses are too expensive though.

Hi Matt, Welcome back to The Wonder of Tech! Good call, if a 3D tv is the same price as a 2D tv, why not get the 3D tv? I hope you’re enjoying your new tv. Let us know if you like watching tv in 3D!

I hate 3D because it makes me nauseous. Don’t be fooled into believing that all Nintendo 3DS owners love their 3DS for the 3D. I for one own a 3DS but only play in 2D mode.

Hi justme, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! I am sorry to hear that 3D makes you nauseous. Do you still enjoy your 3DS even though you play in 2D? Is the 3DS worth it if you only play in 2D? I’m thinking you avoid 3D movies as well.

Yes, I do avoid 3D movies. Before buying the 3DS I actually tried one in a Gamestop store with the 3D slider on and adjusting the slider to different 3D levels, picture was blurry at all levels except when it was all the way down to the 2D level. I felt queasy from the 3D. My son(14) experienced nausea also. It took a while to subside. So the reason for buying the 3DS was mainly the e-shop for retro gaming. I hope they’ll add GBA games.I’ll also enjoy upcoming 3DS games in 2D mode. The graphics are great in 2D. I would not have shelled out $ 250 to play only in 2D. Instead I bought the 3DS second hand for $ 180 without cradle, box, and AR Cards. Got just the system, wall charger and stylus. I did print out the AR cards and they work great in 2D.

Hi Justme, It sounds as if you are getting the most for your money with your 3DS (or, in your case, the 2DS). That would be great if Nintendo added the Game Boy Advance games to the 3DS. Perhaps they will do that to jump start sales. Have you tried Street Pass yet with your 3DS?
I have a daughter who has terrible trouble with motion sickness, and I wasn’t certain she could play the 3DS. She has played it and loves it. She wants one but hasn’t played 3D games long enough to know whether nausea would be an issue for her. It’s helpful to know that even if she has trouble with the 3D, she could still enjoy the device.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

Yes, I tried the Street Pass. But have not encountered other 3DS player. Even took it to Gamestop in hopes to find some other gamers or workers with a 3DS and Street Pass enabled, but had no luck so far. I’m not living in a big city, but it’s not really small either. Still hoping and taking my 3DS along wherever I go. It’s been only 10 days since I got my 3DS though.

Hi Justme, I hope you find other 3DS players to use Street Pass with. My daughter is in the same position. She has a 3DS but doesn’t have any friends close by who have one too. She still loves her 3DS though!
Thanks for your visit and your helpful insights!

Im using LG optimus 3D, and I certainly love having a 3D display on my phone without having to wear the glasses. So as far as 3D is stereoscopic its good.
