Hamish says
Hey Carolyn,
My better third (very small woman my wife) got me a Kindle 4. It was a real surprise as we already have so many Kindles in the house – but I’m happy to replace my old Kindle 2.0 with it.
I love that it’s so small and light and don’t miss a keyboard at all. My son also got one and has torn himself away from his Xbox to do a little reading. Wonders (of Tech) will never cease.
I hope you got everything that you wanted this year and had a great Christmas. Enjoy the rest of the holidays π
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Hamish, What a thoughtful gift! I love the idea that your wife got you a gift you wouldn’t have purchased for yourself but love anyway. I went from a Kindle 2.0 to a Kindle 3 and was very happy with the differences between the two. The new Kindles are much lighter and easier to hold and read than the older ones.
I hope you continue to enjoy your new Kindle, Hamish! π
KathyF says
I don’t see “toaster” on this list…luckily I got an iPhone also so I can participate in the poll!
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Kathy, You’re right, I didn’t include toasters in the poll. My bad.
I hope you weren’t disappointed that you got an iPhone instead of a toaster! Enjoy using Siri and have fun getting to know her. Make sure to check out the Siri articles in The Wonder of Tech!

Mike Maynard says
Hi Carolyn,
I arranged for someone to clean my house for Christmas and they didn’t come! The only tech device I’ve been learning to use is the vacuum cleaner! My have finally got it all clean and guests will come tomorrow. I will spend the morning cooking and preparing food.
I hope you are having a great Christmas. I have seen lot’s of writers have stopped for Christmas, we bloggers keep on going! OK, I have scheduled a few blogs! The photographs tomorrow are very diverse; ‘ll be cooking.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Mike, I’m sorry to hear that about your house cleaner! I hope you didn’t pay them ahead of time. I’m hoping the vacuum cleaner (Hoover?) is easy to use. We had a Henry when we lived in the UK. Brilliant design because my kids loved to use it!
I hope you have fun with your guests. They are in for a treat with your cooking. Your recipes in your blog are yummy!
I was planning on slowing down on writing for the holidays, but there was too much great tech to share!
I look forward to seeing your latest pictures.
Happy Boxing Day! π
Jens P. Berget says
I didn’t get any tech, unless you include a vacuum cleaner, and I got two of them π
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Jens, I consider a Roomba tech http://www.amazon.com/iRobot-560-Roomba-Vacuuming-Silver/dp/B000UUBCNO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1324920294&sr=8-1. Did you get a Roomba?
Were you craving tech that you wish you had received, Jens?
I didn’t receive any tech gifts either, Jens. I’m not complaining. I get a lot of tech throughout the year so there isn’t a lot to give me come Christmastime! π
Jens P. Berget says
No, I didn’t get a robot, I got a regular Bosch, so I’ll still be cleaning the house π
I’m thinking about the Apple TV. Looks awesome, but I haven’t tried it yet.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Jens, I suppose a vacuum cleaner is tech, but that may not bring the joy of other tech toys!
I gave my husband an Apple TV, though we haven’t hooked it up yet. I think it will be fun to use Air Play with it! π
Jens P. Berget says
I hope you’ll turn your experience with the Apple TV into a post sometime soon π
Ruth - The Freelance Writing Blog says
No tech for me (though I got a fabulous coat and some GORGEOUS boots!). But we bought the kids a Play Station 3 (I think that’s what it’s called – not sure why the Wii we have isn’t sufficient).
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Ruth, Is there any tech you wish you received? I’m glad you’re very happy with your coat and boots, Ruth. And your kids are probably very happy with their new PS3. Sounds like the Zive household was quite content for this holiday season!
Kimberly Castleberry says
Being the geek that I am it’s unusual for me to say that I got no tech this year. However, you won’t hear me complaining as it is the first year I got diamonds LOL! Don’t think complaining would be prudent hehehe Of course, had I bought for me it likely would have been a tablet of some sort as I’m seriously eying the Transformer Prime.
Kim
Janet Callaway says
Kim, aloha. To my way of thinking, that’s a good trade off–give up a tech gift for diamons? Actually, that’s a no brainer for me.
Enjoy your new sparkles.
Valentine’s Day is around the corner so I am sure new tech will soon be back in your life.
hauoli La Hanau. Janet
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Janet, you got me thinking. I wonder what new tech will be introduced between now and Valentine’s Day? The Consumer Electronics Show is in January in Las Vegas so it will be very exciting to see what new tech is introduced there. Apple doesn’t attend but there might be other innovative tech that could be a “must have” by February 14th!
Kimberly Castleberry says
I definitely agree that it’s a no-brainer! Those diamonds will outlast tech for sure. Of course, I’m not real good with itty bitty things so I’m kinda paranoid over them at the moment. They’re staying safely in the box they came in for a bit!
I hope you had a lovely holiday and got the things your heart wanted most <3
Kim
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Kim, you’re right to be paranoid. Take good care of your gems! But make sure you wear them often too for full enjoyment. I’m sure they will add to your sparkle, Kim.
I can’t imagine having diamond encrusted tech. I like upgrading too often to combine jewelry with tech! π
Janet Callaway says
Yikes! Kim, I meant to say Hauoli Makahiki Hou which is Happy New Year rather than Hauoli La Hanau which is Happy Birthday. Whichever wish it is, be happy!
Kimberly Castleberry says
Birthday, New Year, Party time, it’ll all work! Best wishes are always appreciated!
Kim
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Kim, Very cool you got diamonds, even if you didn’t get tech. Some people combine diamonds with tech, though I don’t recommend it! http://luxpresso.com/news-accessories/now-a-diamondstudded-ipad-for-rs-53-crore/5679
Sounds as if you had a wonderful holiday, Kim. That’s great news. You deserve the best! π
Kimberly Castleberry says
I certainly don’t advocate mixing the two! At the rate that tech goes “stale” the diamonds in the device will outlive the device itself by decades! I hate buying new tech knowing that its next upgraded sibling will be out in four months. I can’t image having the additional agony of knowing my current version couldn’t just be easily passed along to someone that needed one!
Kim
Janet Callaway says
Carolyn, aloha. No tech, no diamonds. However, it was a wonderful day nonetheless.
So, what tech did you receive for Christmas?
Love that you gave you daughters their own domains for Christmas. No doubt they will soon be blogging or at least positing pictures.
hauoli Makahiki Hou. Janet
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Janet, No tech and no diamonds, but you still had a wonderful holiday. That sounds like a lovely day where you were enriched by the presence of others rather than the presents. A wonderful way to enjoy the holiday!
I didn’t get tech. I have exactly the tech I want, so it wasn’t on my wish list. But I gave tech and got tech accessories so there was plenty of tech under our tree. I got a wonderful iPad case and an iPad stand.
I don’t know when and if my girls will use their URL’s, but if and when they do, they will be happy that they can use their names. I also grabbed http://www.carolynnicandermohr.com for myself. Not much chance anyone else would have that name but I don’t want anyone else grabbing it either. http://www.carolynmohr.com was already taken!
Darren says
I got a TV a couple weeks ago. 43′ Samsung plasma. Much better then the picture tube it replaced. It doesn’t have many bells and whistles on it. Just the basics. Thinking of getting a media center to add to it so I can watch stuff from the net. My brother got an ereader. I think I may want one now.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Darren, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! Wise idea to get a basic set and then get the accessories to go with it. A Roku would probably be the least expensive accessory to get you connected to various online services such as Netflix.
Which ereader did your brother get? Does he like it?
Thanks for stopping by and leaving your awesome message, Darren!
Adrienne says
Hey Carolyn,
No tech for me but as I mentioned earlier, we aren’t exchanging Christmas until the end of next month upon my nephews return. But I’ve already put in my order and it doesn’t include any tech so I guess I can safely say no.
Not sure what everyone else will be getting so we still have that to look forward to. Did you get any tech this year Ms. Tech Queen?
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Adrienne, I’m thinking you’re like me, Adrienne, happy with the tech I already have. I didn’t get tech, so it wasn’t on my wish list either.
Congratulations on the Sunshine awards you received and thank you kindly for bestowing the honor upon me, Adrienne! I accept the award and will be paying it forward sometime soon! π
John Edget says
Well, so sad I received nothing this Christmas, but I’m glad you guys loved the tech gifts you received for Christmas and I hope I will mine in the next Christmas. π
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi John, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! Sorry you didn’t get the tech you wanted for the holidays, but you’re right, there is always next year. One thing is for certain, whatever tech that is hot now will be different next year!
John Edget says
I quite agree with that.
CarolB says
No tech received here. That’s ok, though! I got a great new pair of boots and gifts from my favorite tea store. But my most favorite gift of all was a hand written poem from my 8-year old. It was truly a gift from the heart.
I gave tech, though, if that counts!
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Carol, That definitely counts! And I’m sure that poem from your 8 year old was like diamonds for you! Enjoy your boots and tea, Carol! π
Riley Harrison says
Hey Carolyn,
We open presents with my wife’s family (14 present); four got Ipads. I wasn’t one of the lucky ones but now understand Apple’s success in the marketplace.
Riley
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Riley, Wow, that’s amazing! 4/14 people received iPads as gifts. Sorry you weren’t one, but that’s quite the impressive haul of tech by your family members! I imagine that those who received iPads were very happy with their gifts. I hope you were pleased with your gifts, Riley! π
Brankica says
Lol, this was funny with my hubby’s family. Not too many people but 3 Kindle Fires and 2 of those for men of the family, both older than 75, lol
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Brankica, Wow, that’s a lot of Fires! I’m glad that the older generation in your family is so eager to adopt new tech. Very cool!
Jack says
Nope, no tech gift this year, at least not so far. We have two nights of Chanukah left so I am hopeful that one comes, but who knows.
For what it is worth I would like to get an iPad.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Jack, I certainly hope you get your iPad. With two nights of Chanukah left you still have hope. Keep us posted if you receive one! I have some great app recommendations for you if you do get one. π
Brankica says
Oh I love this poll. I got an iPhone for Christmas along with some other cool stuff, one of them being Blue Snowball microphone, looooove it. And with my Bday just a few months ago and iPad 2 as a gift, I think there is no gadget I will want soon (already have an iPod and Kindle), lol. I am so easy to shop for haha
Merry Christmas, Carolyn!!!
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Brankica, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! I’m so glad you enjoyed this poll. I’m with you, I have all the tech I need so I didn’t get any new gadgets for Christmas. But with your iPod, iPad 2 and Kindle, I would say iTunes and Amazon gift cards would be great gifts for you!
The Blue Snowball microphone sounds like a lot of fun. Perhaps someday you’ll be posting a music video on YouTube? π
Brankica says
Oh no, not a music video for sure. I don’t want people to hate me π but it helps a lot with my video tutorials which I plan to make more in 2012.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Video tutorials are good too. But a music video might bring you even more fans! π
Deeone says
Hi Carolyn,
Merry Belated Christmas to you and a very prosperous New Year!
Unfortunately, I didn’t get any tech items this year. Although my request is still sitting on Santa’s desk; maybe next year, eh? π
However, this is going to be a very useful article for someone…. I just know it! There are so many wonderful techie ideas that I’m sure lite up someones Christmas stocking. So of course, I’ll be sharing it. π
I am REALLY loving the new look though… I know I said it the last time I stopped in, but you’ve updated a lot more since then. It’s looks really great over here. Kudos to you for the hard work, my friend! You really did an awesome job! Very impressive. π
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Deeone, Merry Christmas to you too! I hope your lack of tech gifts under the tree didn’t disappoint you. I didn’t get tech either but I am satisfied with the tech I have.
I’m so glad you like the new look of the blog. Feel free to change the color if you want to. Lots of choices up above!
Have a peaceful and bountiful New Year, Deeone!
Bill Dorman says
Boo, hoo, hoo…….I didn’t get any tech gifts………actually, there were none that I really needed. I’m still having fun w/ my new iPhone 4s. The kids got their phones about a month ago and they are luvin’ ’em too.
I would like to get an iPad sometime during the year; maybe for my birthday in August.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Bill, Sounds like the iPhone was the gateway device for you to like Apple products. π I have a feeling you’ll be loving the iPad when you get it since you’re enjoying your new iPhone now.
Is your battery life better yet?
Bill Dorman says
It’s gasping; on an active day of responding to tweets and e-mail, I’m barely making it to mid-afternoon. I pretty much plan on plugging it in my car or computer sometime during the day…….
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
I suggest that Friday or Saturday night (when you won’t need it for business the next day) you fully charge your phone and close all your apps right before you go to bed. When you wake up in the morning see how much battery you have left (I’m assuming you have location services and push notifications turned off). This will tell you if the phone battery is dying quickly or it’s your usage that is draining the battery.
Keep me posted!
Ileane says
Hi Carolyn, I got my hands on a lovely Bose Sound Dock Series II. Right now I have my iPod Nano docked but I think I need to upgrade to an iPad Touch so I can store more music. This is my second Bose so I was able to move the older one back to my bedroom. It’s nice to have my favorite tunes playing in the background while I write.
Here’s wishing you a happy and healthy new year!
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Ileane, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! Your sound dock is fantastic and I like how you’re recycling your tech by moving it to a different place in your house.
I think you’ll like having an iPod Touch not only for the increased capacity for music but also for the apps and the Internet connection.
Have a wonderful New Year, Ileane!
Faran says
Hi Carolyn,
Well no tech gifts, actually no gifts at all. Muslims don’t celebrate Christmas (now you see the reason), but i hope you had a great one and did you get a tech gift??
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Faran, Thank you for your warm wishes. I didn’t get any tech for Christmas but I wasn’t disappointed. I’m very happy with the tech I already have.
I didn’t mention Christmas in the post as I want people of all faiths to be included in this poll. All readers are welcome at The Wonder of Tech! Except for spammers, of course. [-(
Pete Goumas says
My mother got a Droid phone and she loves it!
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Pete, That’s great! I hope she’s able to find some fun and useful apps for her new phone. Thanks for sharing this with us, Pete!
Missy says
Hey, Carolyn:
I got several cool tech gifts including a Kindle Fire and one of those new TV streaming gizmos. I love my Fire, but have yet to install and play with my new TV streaming toy.
Do you have one? If so, which one?
Cheers!
p.s. Do you accept guest articles here on Wonder of Tech? Let me know.
Rizwan Sultan says
