News from MWC

This week the Mobile World Congress was held in Barcelona, Spain. This event focuses on mobile technology such cell phones and tablets. The conference was centered around developments in Android and Google’s upcoming operating system for tablets, Honeycomb. Apple isn’t present at the conference and other companies with mobile operating systems didn’t generate much buzz.

Here is a list of the 2011 Global Mobile Awards given at the conference yesterday. Congratulations to iPhone 4 and Angry Birds!

Handy Tip

If you are considering getting a tablet, wait! The iPad 2 should be announced very shortly with sales predicted to begin in March or April. Even if you don’t want an iPad 2 and can settle for the original iPad, the cost of those devices should fall quite a bit after the iPad2 comes on the market.

If you’re looking at an Android tablet such as the Samsung Galaxy, well, you shouldn’t be. Google has stated that Android was made only for phones and earlier this month announced its Honeycomb operating system for tablets. Honeycomb tablets are due on the market soon as well.

So glad I read your blog this morning! I was going to buy an iPad next week, but now I am going to wait. Will you be writing about the different kinds of iPads and other tablets that are coming out soon?

I think mine might have been covered by the first one, iMac via iTunes. We’re getting a new tv this weekend, so maybe we’ll discover a new way to watch via Apple TV!

Ever since we watched the first movie on the computer screen, I was sold and haven’t watched one on our old 19-inch tv. It’s so much nicer to sit close and see the details on their faces! I can even read the credits, something I haven’t been able to see for a while.

Kathy, I think you’ll enjoy watching Apple TV on your new tv. You should enable your Apple TV to sync with your photos to have your new tv act as a huge digital picture frame.

Thanks for that tip; what a good idea! And especially for the tv we just bought for Grandma’s house…will have my daughter check if that’s possible, since she can’t see that well (Grandma, I mean, though it applies to Daughter as well!).

Kathy, Apple TV makes a terrific digital photo frame for anyone but would be particularly great for anyone with vision issues. Let me know if your daughter has any questions setting up the Apple TV, syncing with photos.
