Hi Carolyn,
I actually am coming back today because I saw that you were a fellow Versatile Blogger from Deeone’s site. I don’t know how I ended up being put in a group of bloggers as excellent as you, but just wanted to congratulate you and second Deeone’s thoughts.
Bryce

Hi Bryce, I was very honored to receive the Versatile Blogger Award from Deeone and to be in your esteemed company. You richly deserve the award.
Thank you very much for your kind words! I’m so glad you are enjoying The Wonder of Tech. ๐

Big question; our family plan (which I’m not on because of my company phone) is expiring. My wife thinks if she waits a month until the iPhone 5’s come out, she can pick up cheap iPhone 4’s for my two sons. Concur or not?
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Bill, Big question and great question! Your wise wife gave you sage advice. Waiting until the next iPhone comes out is exactly what you should do. Rumors are rampant that Apple will launch not only the iPhone 5 but a new, less expensive model of iPhone, perhaps called the 4S.
Also, after the launch of the iPhone 5, Apple will most likely drop the price of the iPhone 4. So it makes perfect sense to wait.
Please tell your wife I concur! ๐
Thank you very much for your big and great question as well as all of your incredible support during the Most Valuable Blogger contest! ๐
Thank you so
Janet @ The Natural Networker says
Carolyn, aloha. While I have Blackberry, I have to confess that I have iPhone envy. ALL of my friends have iPhones and some of them do amazing things with them.
The reason I haven’t switched is my Blackberry works perfectly AND I hardly ever use it. Since I am not out and about much, I have little need for a cell phone. When I go out for a walk or to the store, I don’t use my phone because I am out to enjoy my walk and I don’t need it in the store.
What to do, what to do. No doubt when the iPhone 5 comes out I will do some serious thinking. Thx so much for these educational and entertaining comparisons.
Best wishes for a terrific week. Until next time, aloha. Janet
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Janet, I can understand why you’re hanging on to your Blackberry in spite of your Apple envy. When the iPhone 5 comes out you can decide if you can resist the cravings for the latest from Apple.
I think the difference between the Blackberry and the iPhone is that the Blackberry is mostly a phone. The iPhone has features far beyond its utility as a phone. If you ask some of your friends how often they actually use their iPhone as a phone, they will probably answer “rarely.”
So don’t think needing a phone rarely has anything to do with how much you will enjoy an iPhone!
Thanks so much, Janet, for stopping by and leaving an awesome comment! ๐
Janet says
Carolyn, aloha. Interesting that you should say that a Blackberry is mostly a phone.
My dearest friend who has been nagging, bugging me to get an iPhone had this to say to me when I told her I hardly ever used my existing phone so why would I get a new one.
She said, as only a dear friend can, “Oh get over it. Stop thinking of it as a phone. Think of it as a device you can do all these neat things with and you can even use it as a phone. In my opinion, they should change the name from IPhone to iLife.”
Obviously, she is in love with her iPhone. She is a complete non-techie, non-internet person yet now that she has her iPhone, she does all sorts of amazing things with it related to both.
Best wishes for a terrific week. Aloha. Janet
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Your dearest friend is very wise. I’ve heard people joke when their iPhones ring that they didn’t know what the sound was coming from their iPhones. “What? You mean it makes phone calls too?”
It’s difficult to understand until you have one, but a smartphone quickly becomes an essential tool once you get hooked. So make sure you’re ready before you take the plunge. ๐
Aloha.
Samantha Bangayan says
I don’t own either of these phones, but if I were to buy one, I would definitely lean towards the iPhone because of its sleekness and intuitiveness. And as you explain to Janet, I love how it has so many more features than just its function as a phone. I’ve been an Apple fan since I bought my first Mac a few years ago, so maybe I’m a little biased. =P
Crossing my fingers for the MVB award, Carolyn!! Best of luck! =)
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Samantha, As a Mac owner, you are very likely to be in the iPhone camp. I wonder if there are many Mac users who have Android phones, other than my daughters who have them because of their less expensive plans (see, Smart and Cheap, https://wonderoftech.com/2011/02/smart-and-cheap-2/).
Thanks so much, Samantha, for stopping by and leaving a brilliant comment! ๐
Simon says
I like Iphone more. Maybe I am just too much used to it. Getting my hands on a new phone with this comfort seems difficult now. Maybe on a vacation I try getting used to an Android too. But at present, Iphone rules for me.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Simon, you’re not alone. It’s a challenge to learn a new operating system so if the iPhone works for you, there isn’t a lot of reason to switch to an Android phone.
Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! Thanks for stopping by and leaving a great comment. ๐
Ashvini says
Hi Carolyn,
This poll is favouring android by the time I voted. Android is 4% ahead of iphone.
I think the reason Android is winning is probably people perceive it as more open and widely available on large number of phones. I think apple is still an excellent phone but the general trend is turning towards Andriod.
However , I feel if we can have an open source system for Mobile phones, it will be the best choice ( just like wordpress for blogs). What does your technical hat says about it ๐ ?
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Ashvini, This is one of the closest polls The Wonder of Tech has ever had. A few weeks ago, when I asked about buying a tablet, 100% of the responses were in favor of buying some sort of tablet. Amazing.
I am similarly amazed at how close this vote is. The lead has changed frequently between iPhone and Android. The growth of Android shows that it is a force to be reckoned with. But Apple hasn’t introduced a new iPhone in 15 months so its staying power is impressive as well. Perhaps I should repeat this poll after the launch of the iPhone 5?
I have mixed feelings about openness with mobile operating systems. I like that Android is open so I can have apps that increase fun and functionality, but I do worry about malware. The closed system of the iTunes App Store can be frustrating, but I worry less about malware.
Thanks so much, Ashvini, for your visit, awesome comment and helpful tweet! Always a pleasure to have you visit The Wonder of Tech. ๐

Its really great comparison between iphone and android. So, i would like to say thanks for given up here ๐

Hi Kavya, Thank you for your kind words. I’m so happy you enjoyed this article! ๐
Jens P. Berget says
I love my iPhone and I would never change it for any other phone. That’s mostly because I have been using it a lot, and I really feel that I understand how to use it (I get everything done fast and I get apps for almost everything). But, I am still waiting for #5, since I still have iPhone 3GS. I didn’t want to buy iPhone 4 when my 3GS was working great. Well, it still is, but I can’t skip another version (even though I have no clue what the specs for iPhone 5 will be) ๐
Jens
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Jens, You’re so right, Jens. Familiarity with a phone is a very powerful force. Unless familiarity breeds contempt, lol! I’m so glad you like the iPhone, no need to switch to an Android if you’re happy with the iPhone.
I’m with you 100% about the iPhone 5. It can’t come soon enough for me. I also have the 3GS and am looking forward to getting a new iPhone!
So glad to have you back from Italy! ๐
Allen Cooper says
My vote goes to Android. I am a techie and love to have my hands on new gadgets and update myself regularly. Android has some great features.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Allen, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! You’re right, nothing more fun than a new gadget. I wish that contracts with carriers were shorter so upgrading phones could happen more often without a huge expense.
Thanks so much for your visit, Allen. I hope to see you back here soon at The Wonder of Tech. ๐
Hayden says
Both are good. Depends on what my pocket allows and how are the services and all! This is how for me at least!
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Hayden, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! Yes, price can make a big difference. In general, since there are more models of Android phones and more plans available, it can be cheaper to get an Android phone than to get an iPhone. You may also prefer a carrier that doesn’t carry the iPhone, so your choice can depend on a variety of factors.
Great point, Hayden! ๐
Sally Bowden says
I would go for Android. I like it, don’t know why. Simply like to carry and use it. Cannot figure out any specific reasons.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Sally, I’m glad you’re happy with Android. If you like it and it works for you, just keep using it. No need to switch if you don’t have to! ๐
Kimi says
Hi Carolyn,
This poll is definitely for me in my current situation..
I have currently iphone3, and thinking to upgrade the 4( little late i know.. LOL)
But I am also considering Samsung smartphone, the only thing that backs me up, is because it is using android, that I am completely not familiar with.
Heard the advantage of android, but I am a non techie person, so I want something simple, so I prefer still iPhone ๐
Thanks
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Kimi, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! No, you’re not really late in upgrading your iPhone. There’s no rush if your current phone is still working for you. In fact, don’t upgrade too early. You should wait until the upcoming announcement by Apple about the new iPhone 5 to decide what to buy. You may still decide upon the iPhone 4 but it will probably be much cheaper after the iPhone 5 is launched.
Since you’re not a techie and you already have an iPhone, I suggest you stick with that instead of changing to an Android phone. You will get to keep all of your apps and will not have a learning curve to deal with.
Please stop by again and let us know what you decided! ๐

Hi carolyn
nice to know there are more supporters of android than iphone here. cuz u seem to be an enthusiast of apple products, so I didn’t expected this result.
Anyways I prefer android for the reason u’ve mentioned, it is open source. so having an android phone has its advantages over having an iphone.
