Last week’s Tech-Knowledgy discussed how the problem of personal tech being confusing was the fault of the design, not the user. A Wonder of Tech reader, Kathy Flake, wrote about her frustration with personal tech in her blog this week, Technology and the Gym Rat.
How do you feel about tech? Let us know in the Poll below:

Tech Update
Yesterday, Apple released an update to its iOS operating system for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch devices (though for some unexplained reason, not Verizon iPhones). Make sure you update your software soon as this is a major update with lots of features like faster Internet surfing.

I’d marry my iPod if I could. It is intelligent, diverse, witty and fascinating. It helps me cook, grocery shop and pack for trips. It even sings to me. Love it!

Hi Stephanie, Welcome back to The Wonder of Tech! You sound as if you’re making great use of your iPad. Are you planning to get the iPad 2?
I love my iPad also, but my favorite tech might be my GPS. I often wonder how I got by without one (then I remember, I got lost a lot). Of course the iPad is a great GPS, another reason to love the device.

I hate having no idea what tech will make my life better. I’m really grateful for your blog. It’s already helped me so much. Thank you! :))

Hi Joey, I am so glad you have found reading The Wonder of Tech to be helpful. Thank you for your kind words. The reason I wanted to start this blog was to help others learn more about personal technology. Tech developments are happening quickly and can be confusing, but if you learn about tech, it can be useful and fun!

My iPod failed me at the gym today. Despite new earbuds, the sound was tinny, and then the playlist started playing songs that weren’t on it. Fortunately my husband figured out how to reset it and now it works fine. Have you had this problem with an iPod?
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi KathyF, Welcome back to The Wonder of Tech! Sorry about your problems with your iPod. When I had the iPod Classic, I would occasionally have problems with it, though it never added a song to a Playlist. Was it an appropriate song for the Playlist?
How did your husband reset it and what kind of iPod do you have? Please share the information so other readers who might have this problem in the future can learn.
Because of the many different iPod models and software updates, I suggest searching the Apple website to see the way to reset your particular iPod if you are having problems. You are fortunate to have a helpful husband who knew what to do!

It added a Tori Amos song to an upbeat playlist I’d made years ago for an election victory party that turned out to be…an election lost party. ๐ So not exactly appropriate, though maybe it was trying to tell me something?
He reset it by going to the settings menu on the iPod, and selecting “reset settings”. Then he re-synced it at iTunes. The iPod was a gift last Christmas, a little over a year ago, so it’s not an old model. It could have had water drip into it from my water bottle in my gym bag, though I can’t confirm that.
By the way, I found two old iPods when I was cleaning out my desk. They look HUGE compared to the current one I have!
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Before the days of playlists, I just put my iPod on “Shuffle” and let it decide what songs I should listen to. Sometimes the iPod had a good sense of humor!

Hello Tivi, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! Lol, I’m glad you’re enjoying your iPod so much! I’m thinking it must be an iPod Touch to do all of that for you. ๐ Another Wonder of Tech reader in March said that she would marry her iPad if she could. I’ve never heard of anyone wanting to marry their Android device. Hmmm… ๐
Thanks for your visit and your delightful comment!
