Source Code – The Movie
Next week a new movie opens called Source Code, starring Jake Gyllenhaal. As you might imagine, either from the title or the fact that I’m mentioning the movie in a tech blog, the movie is about tech. Yea!
I have no idea whether the movie is any good or not, but The Wonder of Tech readers will be delighted to learn that Source Code is marketing its movie through QR codes [see, QR Codes: The Next Great Tech (You Haven’t Heard Of Yet)]. My first step is to see if I can upgrade existing equipment to achieve the desired result. I recently doubled the ram in all my computers and what a difference in processing speed – no need for new computers. However when a breakthrough technology introduces a new product (e.g. the Kindle), I have no reservation about buying. I love my Kindle. Just purchased a Flip Pal mobile scanner and I’m having a lovefest with it. All the reviews were raves and they were right.

Hi Riley, Welcome back to The Wonder of Tech! That’s a very smart philosophy to try to improve your exisiting tech if possible, but getting new technology when it’s a breakthrough product. I confess, I hadn’t heard of a Flip Pal scanner, I’m glad you mentioned it. The reviews of it on Amazon are great. The Flip Pal looks like a very useful device. I own a business and if I think technology will save my business money, I will invest in it.The trick is figuring out which technology will take off and is worth investing in.
Hi Joe, Welcome back to The Wonder of Tech. You’re right, in business tech can be an investment if it’s the right tech. Many businesses that have invested in smartphone apps have seen a favorable return on their investments. Starbucks just started accepting payments nationwide in the US via its iPhone and Blackberry apps in January and two months later over 20% of payments in their stores are made through the app. I hope you find the right fit for tech with your business.
We’re still battling it out with the original Donkey Kong, Zelda & Duck Hunt. Sounds like it’s time to upgrade the Nintendo! Thanks for the review David & Carolyn.

Hi Jerry, Welcome back to The Wonder of Tech! I agree with you, in many cases upgrading tech means you have a lot to learn and some things to unlearn as well. The more tech developers can make the experience intuitive, the easier the tech will be to use for the consumer.
Upgrading gadgets can be fun, but I’m not a big fan of upgrading computers. Like Riley, I would prefer to add RAM (more memory) than go through the hassle of getting a new computer.
