Tech news is sometimes so exciting, you just want to:
PopKey Send GIFs became available for computers yesterday. Now you can express yourself with images that are much more powerful than boring old emojis that just sit there and do nothing. :-0
Instead use GIFs (a/k/a animated images) to truly express your emotions. With PopKey Send GIFs you can liven up your messages, conveying your sentiments in a fun and attention-grabbing way. You may even earn some giggles!
Using PopKey Send GIFs on Your Computer
PopKey is available for free as a software application for both Windows and Mac computers. Head to the PopKey website to download PopKey for your computer.

After you download the software you’ll see the PopKey icon on your top menu bar on the Mac or your bottom tool bar on Windows. Click on it to open a window to view PopKey GIFs:
- Trending
- Featured
Trending is a collection of the most popular GIFs on PopKey so you can see what’s hot now.
Featured includes GIFs on topics such as sports, cats, dogs, money, and from sponsors who provide PopKey with GIF’s such as HBO, Starbucks, MLB, Sony Music, and even Minions.
You can also search for GIFs in the search bar at the top of the window. Search for feelings, such as Happy, Excited, and Frustrated, or situations such as Silly, Happy Dance, Oops and Snap.
You’ll recognize many of the GIFs from the PopKey app. I hope in a future update you’ll be able to access your favorite PopKey GIFs from the app using your computer.
PopKey Send GIF works without needing to open a browser. You can open PopKey on your desktop screen and use the GIFs on any browser. You can use them in emails, Facebook, Twitter, Google Hangouts, and other sites that accept GIFs as a way for you to express yourself.
Adding a PopKey GIF to Your Message
PopKey Send GIFs gives you a lot of ways to include their images using your computer. To add a GIF you can either:
- drag the image from the PopKey window into your message
- click on the image to copy it
- or save the file by right-clicking and choosing “Save GIF”
You can even use the URL/web address for the GIF.
Play around with the different ways you can use PopKey on your computer to see which one you like the most and which one works with each site.
According to PopKey, their GIFs work best with:
- Gmail
- iMessage
- GitHub
- Slack
- HipChat
- Yammer
- Basecamp
- MailChimp
You can also use PopKey to add GIFs to Tumblr and WordPress blogs.
[note] Fair Warning: expect to see plenty of PopKey GIFs in future articles here at The Wonder of Tech including, but not limited to, articles that have absolutely nothing to do with PopKey. [/note]

Hi Carolyn,
It is interesting that they can add animated GIFS to Facebook. I tried and couldn’t do it! I will try Popkey though. I want to make my own – obviously. I can set my camera to keep on shooting to get the stills and then use Photoscape to make the animated GIF. I keep meaning to make one and see if it will display on my blog. They display in a browser. At the moment I’m playing with a video editing program! ๐

Hi Mike, Yes, I need to write about how to create GIFs on your own but I haven’t yet, probably because PopKey is so easy and filled with fun GIFs. I was so very excited to learn about PopKey coming to the computer yesterday I couldn’t wait to share the news with Wonder of Tech readers!
I really like how easy PopKey is to use, how it’s available for Windows and Mac, and that it’s free!

This is great! I have been waiting a long time for something like this that actually works to come about! Its easier to show your feelings via a GIF. Would be great if it gave the opportunity to also create and share your own but happy for now with sending Minion GIFs .

Hi Lili, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! Yes, PopKey lets you add your own GIFs to the app on the iPhone so that may very well be a coming update to the computer version of PopKey. It would also be great if the favorites and your own GIFs transferred from your iPhone to your computer on PopKey.
Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts, Lili!
