I love a deal. I know I’m not alone in this and in knowing that the Internet is a fertile source for great deals. But I don’t like to spend hours and hours searching the Internet to find a deal every time I want to buy something.
Sure, for a big purchase like a car or a trip I’ll spend a lot of time researching deals. But what if I just want to order a pizza for my family? I head to RetailMeNot.
RetailMeNot is an online coupon site that consistently gives fantastic savings on Internet purchases, large and small. If you’re shopping online, don’t check out before checking out RetailMeNot. The site has coupons for 65,000 online stores in eight countries, including the US, Canada, UK, Germany, Australia, India, France and The Netherlands.
Many Internet sites have coupon codes, but RetailMeNot has the benefit of accuracy. You can waste a lot of time searching for coupon codes and enter them only to find out they don’t work, after you have carefully crafted your virtual shopping cart to meet the requirements of the coupon code. With RetailMeNot, users provide feedback to let you know up front the success rate for each coupon code, and provide helpful comments for using the coupon.
Let’s say you want to shop for clothes at Macy’s online. You need some new Spring things. You go to RetailMeNot and see that they have a coupon for $25 off of a $50 purchase. Sounds great, but will it work?
You see from RetailMeNot that the success rate is 79%. You like those odds, so you copy the coupon code, head to Mr. Rebates and see that they are offering a 4% rebate on Macy’s purchases. You click on Macy’s, load your $50 worth of Macy’s Spring things into your virtual shopping cart and use the coupon code to get your purchase price reduced to $25.
You buy with a smile, knowing that in addition to the 50% discount form RetailMeNot, you will receive a 4% rebate from Mr. Rebates. Sweet.
Okay, but what about the pizza dinner? My family now knows to check RetailMeNot first when we order Domino’s pizza. Often, RetailMeNot has better deals than the printed coupons we receive in the mail from Domino’s. Right now, RetailMeNot has a Domino’s coupon code for “buy a large pizza, get one free” that we have used. The coupon code is “access”, the success rate is 70% and the average savings is $14.
Don’t need two large pizzas? RetailMeNot has lots of other Domino’s deals with high success rates. (Note: ordering from Domino’s online is fun because not only do you get to use online coupon codes, you get to track the progress of your pizza.)
RetailMeNot has Add-ons available for Firefox and Chrome browsers so that when you go to a retail site, you will get a pop up window telling you about a coupon on RetailMeNot. The Add-on is a great idea but in practice it doesn’t work very well. The pop up windows give out-dated and inaccurate information. But they are a good reminder to check out RetailMeNot before you buy, just don’t rely on them for the whole story. Check out The Wonder of Tech Fun With Browsers! for information on adding Add-ons to your browser.
So whenever you’re Internet shopping, whether you’re planning a trip, shopping for clothes or ordering a pizza, make sure you head to RetailMeNot to discover great savings. Between Retail Me Not and Mr. Rebates, you can reap great deals on your Internet purchases!

Check out this funny, scary and amazing video about installing an iPad 2 into a Ford Sync system. As someone who has an iPad 2 and a car with Ford Sync, I laughed, cringed, and was in awe at how this worked:

awesome! I love your blog. You offer great practical advice.
Never thought of ordering a pizza online. We hate rummaging for coupons. What a terrific idea. Thanks.

Hi Pat, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! I’m very glad you find the blog helpful. Ordering pizza online is easy and I love monitoring the progress online. And, of course, the pizza tastes much better when you know you’ve gotten a great deal!

Lol, I love the video. Is that what you’re doing with your iPad?
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Sue, Welcome back to The Wonder of Tech. No, I have absolutely no intention of ripping out my Ford Sync and replacing it with an iPad dock. First. having an iPad on the dash would be very distracting (bad idea). Second, doing this would get rid of all the great features of Ford Sync (another bad idea). I just thought it was cool to see how he ripped the car apart so you could see what was inside.
Remember, just because you can do something doesn’t make it a good idea! 🙂

Hmm, interesting. I shall try this one out.
Also, another similar add-on (for chrome at least, cant speak for FF) is Invisible Hand. When you are looking at a site, say amazon, it will search other sites for the same item and compare prices, then tell you if you are looking at the lowest.

Hi Matt, Welcome back to The Wonder of Tech! Thanks for the tip on Invisible Hand. I have that Add-on on Firefox and find it to be very useful. I have learned from a lot of internet shopping to really pay attention to the seller. Not all sellers have the reputation of an Amazon. If I’m buying from a seller I haven’t heard of before, I search them to make sure there aren’t a lot of complaints about them. But Invisible Hand has pointed me to some good deals!
