Sending your love across the miles used to involve buying a greeting card, writing a note, putting a postage stamp on the envelope and then dropping the card in a mailbox so it could be delivered days later.
Times have changed.
Now you can send your love instantly with a custom crafted card using Postage, an app in the iTunes App Store. For the price of a greeting card or two, this app allows you to design and share beautiful custom-made photo cards with dozens of different designs.
Postage has styles of cards in many different categories, including Love, Travel, Announcements, Holiday, Halloween, and many others. The Love category has 16 different styles of cards to choose from so you can use this app for your one true love for 16 years without repeating a style!
You can use this app to send your good wishes at the last-minute if you find yourself stuck on Valentine’s Day or if you’re reminded of a birthday on that particular day. You can also use this app while you’re traveling to show the folks back home where you are and that you’re thinking of them!
The app is very easy to use, it guides you every step of the way. When you open the app, you’re asked to choose a category, such as Love. The next step is to choose from the Postcard styles. The app has over 90 styles available.
After you’ve made your selection, you’re asked to insert a photo. You can take a new photo, use an image from your photo library or paste a photo from a website. Once you’ve chosen your photo, you can move, scale and rotate the photo. You’re also give the option of adding effects to your photo, such as making it black and white or sepia, brightening the photo, or adding other effects.
The next step is to add text to the card. You can either type in your own text, or if you need suggestions, use the text provided by the app. Here’s a sample:
“Love looks not with the eyes but the mind. And therefore is winged Cupid painted blind.”
and another:
“I choo-choo choose you!”
The app allows you to choose the size, font and color of the text so you can coordinate the look of text with the card and message. You can even select whether the text is left, right or center justified.
After you’ve completed your card, you have the option of sharing your card with your intended via email, Facebook or Twitter. You can also copy and paste a card if you want to send the card via text message.
Postage is available for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch for $4.99 in the iTunes App Store. You can also buy smaller versions of the app for Romance, Holidays and Halloween for $1.99 each that offer cards in these categories.

Perfect for Valentine’s Carolyn!
I was just wondering which application or plugin would you come up with for Valentine’s Day, when I saw this in my RSS ๐
I think it is indeed worth giving it a try, though even if you don’t want to send it through your phones, you could use Twitter, Facebook or email to do so- which makes it worth the while.
Thanks for sharing, and wishing you a very Happy Valentine’s as well ๐
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Harleena, Thanks, this app is a truly high quality app so I’m delighted to share it with others. While it’s great for Valentine’s Day tomorrow, I use it year ’round, especially when I travel.
Just to be 100% clear, you can send these cards using Twitter or Facebook but you do need an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch to use this app. Unfortunately there is no Android app yet.
Stay tuned for tomorrow. I have a really special article planned for Valentine’s Day!
Hope your day is fabulous, Harleena!
Harleena Singh says
Opps! I guess I would need an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch to use it then ๐
Looking forward for tomorrows post now ๐
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Yes, Harleena, sorry about that! Happy Valentine’s Day to you. See you here tomorrow! ๐
Janet Callaway says
Harleena, aloha. A service that I love for sending cards is http://jacquielawson.com She creates some fabulous cards.
Of course, I realize it’s not an app, however, maybe they have did phone friendly. Since I always use my computer, I have not even checked.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Thanks, Janet. LaRae below also suggested Jacquie Lawson. I will have to check that site out. Appreciate you sharing that information with us. ๐
Harleena Singh says
Thanks so much Janet- I am going right ahead and checking it out right away ๐

Hi Carolyn,
This sound great. I need a card for Valentine’s Day and for my brother’s birthday, so will definitely check this app out. Postage sounds like it will be very handy for when people are traveling. Thanks for sharing this handy app and have a Happy Valentine’s Day!
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Cathy, Instead of heading to the greeting card store, you can head to the iTunes App Store and grab Postage. You’ll be able to use it for the big day tomorrow and for future birthdays and other events. I love using it on trips. Friends and family are thrilled to get these cards in their email inboxes.
Happy Valentine’s Day to you too, Cathy! ๐
Hajra says
I don’t really do a Valentine day greeting thing but yes, this is interesting. But then again, sadly I don’t have the Apple products!
Are there similar applications for other smart phones?
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Hajra, Great question. You can check out Greeting Cards, a free app in the Android Market.
The good news is that you can use these apps for other occasions as well as for Valentine’s Day! ๐
Hajra says
Thanks for resource!
Yes, there are so many many ways we could put that to use!
LaRae Quy says
Hi Carol
I’m already using Jacqui Lawson ecards and I love them but this app is great because I can really personalize my message. Events like Valentine’s and birthdays, it’s especially nice . . . and happy Valentine’s day to you!
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi LaRae, I will have to check out Jaqui Lawson ecards. I don’t think I’ve ever seen them before.
You’re right, Postage is a great way to show you care, and especially easy if you’re on the go!
I hope you have a lovely Valentine’s Day, LaRae! ๐

Love it! This app fits the needs of the perfect “last minute” card or for any time you want to send a custom card. At first I thought it was a bit pricey for the app, but once I factored in the price of running out to buy a card at the local store, then postage to mail it, this price is a bargain! And seeing as I always seem to be “last minute” when it comes to getting cards, this app would be perfect for me. Thanks for sharing all the details about it.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Carol, Yes, this is one of the more expensive apps I have reviewed, but I chose it (and bought it myself) because it’s a high quality app. The customization features are extensive, plus the app is easy to use. Many people don’t think twice of spending $5 on a cup of coffee, but are reluctant to spend more than $0.99 on a smartphone app.
This app pays for itself by saving you money on greeting cards. You get the advantage of customization and instant delivery too! ๐
Emilia says
Wow this app seems to be really incredible! Thanks for the idea, I think I’m gonna send my love.message to my husband tomorrow with this nice app!
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Emilia, I’m so glad you like the app and are going to send your husband a card using Postage tomorrow. I hope he enjoys the card and that you have a lovely Valentine’s Day! ๐
Missy says
Hi, Carolyn:
I think a few years ago it was considered sort of cheapish to send a digital note card or Valentine’s card, but things have changed quite a bit since then. And I think it’s more acceptable now especially with the advent of the iPhone and tablets like the iPad and the Kindle Fire.
I know a greeting on my Kindle Fire looks smashing in full color. Thanks for the tip on this cool V-day app.
Cheers!
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Missy, Great point. It used to be ecards weren’t really accepted but they quickly became more personalized and fun so people seem to enjoy getting them more now. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t enjoy getting ecards! ๐
I’m glad the cards look good on your Kindle Fire, Missy!
Bryce Christiansen says
Loved the Simpsons reference. I choo choo choose you!
Very cool concept these app designers thought of. Having a physical valentine is definitely more meaningful. Great way to combine tech and physical benefits.
Bryce
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Bryce, Good point! I am glad you like this app. If someone wanted a physical reminder of Valentine’s Day, they could always print these cards from their email account.
Hope you and your lovely wife have an amazing Valentine’s Day, Bryce! ๐
Janet Callaway says
Carolyn, aloha. Great looking app which I will be sharing with my iPhone friends. Look forward to your Valentine’s Day treat for us tomorrow. Until then, aloha. Janet
P.S. One concern I have about getting an iPhone is that I will be spending so much time playing with all the apps you share with us!
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Janet, thanks for sharing this post with your iFriends.
I can understand your concern that you will be spending a lot of time exploring your apps. No worries, you will find that you are saving so much time by using your iPhone as a handy tool, that you will be saving time on chores you used to do when you were in front of a computer. You may be wondering what to do with all of your free time after you get your iPhone, Janet! ๐
Janet Callaway says
Apple would love your comment on all the free time I will have as a result of having an iPhone with the apps!
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Yes, Apple really should start an advertising campaign with people complaining about having too much free time now that they have an iPhone. ๐
Bill Dorman says
Pretty cool; when is Valentine’s Day BTW?
With the apps available today, you can really use them for some pretty neat things. I find it hard to keep up with the ones I have…..
As always, good stuff.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hey Bill, Valentine’s Day just happens to be tomorrow. But you will have no doubt of the date when you read my post tomorrow. :-bd
Janet Callaway says
Carolyn, aloha. WOW! Can’t believe you are not familiar with Jacquie. Her cards are amazing and I have been dazzling people for years with them. Make sure you either use my link or add the “e” on Jacquie.
In fact, I am going to send you one of my favorites though I must admit I have many and she keeps adding new ones.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Janet, I try to get to all the sites on the Internet, but three are a few I haven’t reached yet and Jacquie’s is one of them. ๐ Thanks so much for sharing!
Adrienne says
That’s a cool idea but I’m still from the old school. To me if you’re going to send a message or card, it needs to be by mail. I think we get away from the human touch at times. Sure, if we don’t have someone’s address or we forgot to send them something then I can understand the electronic version.
I know, I think it’s just special from time to time to get something in the mail unexpected. I just love sending cards, that’s all.
Great idea though and leave it to you Carolyn to share this with us. Thank you so much. I know my niece and nephew will love this. They’ve yet to break into our tradition of mailing actual live cards. lol…

I just want to give a huge thumbs up for the good information youโve here on this post. I will be coming again to your weblog for extra soon
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Sandipan, I am very happy you find this information helpful. Thank you very much for the praise. ๐
Jens P. Berget says
I have forgotten all about this one Carolyn, but I discovered it in my feeds. So, better late than never ๐
It looks like an awesome app. I love to get personal greetings, and I used to send cards from every single vacation or whenever something “new” happened, and many times I sent cards without any reason at all, other than saying that I’m thinking of you (mostly to my wife). But now, with technology, I’m not doing it anymore. I send text messages (not so much), and emails (not so much), and using various social media. And, this is not just me, but it seems that if people are on vacations or something special is happening, they’re updating Facebook with their status and adding pictures, instead of sending a personal message/card to the most important people in their lives. And hopefully apps like this can help us change the behavior to the better.
