Seven Superb Super Bowl Apps!

The estimated reading time for this post is 3 minutes

Super Bowl XLVI

Super Bowl Sunday is rapidly approaching. You may have your chili and chips ready to go but do you have all the tech you need?

Times have changed since 2008, the last time the Giants and Patriots met in the Super Bowl. There may be some similarities between Super Bowls XLII and XLVI, but a big difference is tech. This year, many viewers of the Big Game will be supplementing their viewing by following along with their smartphones. Make sure you are tech-ready on Game Day with these superb Super Bowl Apps!

Super Bowl Commemorative App

The Super Bowl Commemorative App has videos and stats aplenty showing the journey to the Super Bowl for the Patriots and the Giants. The app gives details about past Super Bowl games and lets you re-live the previous match-ups between the two teams. This app from the NFL will be updated after the game with even more features. The Super Bowl XLVI Commemorative App is available in the iTunes App Store (for iPad only).

NFL Super Bowl App

NFL Super Guide

NFL Super Guide from Verizon is the ultimate football fan app for the ultimate football fan. This free app is helpful if you’ll be watching from the stands at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. This app has a 3D map of Indianapolis, a stadium seating guide, parking map and list of road restrictions for the game. This app is available from the iTunes Store SB XLVI Guide.

Super Ads

Super Bowl Ads AppWatching the game is only half the fun. Commercials that air during the Super Bowl often create more buzz than the game itself. Take a trip down memory lane with the Super Ads app that shows you the best Super Bowl commercials for the past six years. You can scroll through the commercials year by year or search brands or products to find your favorites. Super Ads is available in the iTunes App Store for $1.99.

Chevy Game Time

There is a chance that Chevy Game Time may just be the best app you ever download. Make that several chances. Chevy Game Time not only gives you information about the game, it also gives you chances to win a Chevy. When you register you are entered to win and you are given a custom license plate number. Watch for your license plate to appear on a Chevy during a commercial. If your license plate appears in the ad, you win! You can also win cars by answering trivia questions about the commercials and the game. Chevy Game Time is available free in the Android Market and iTunes App Store.

Chevy Super Bowl App

Super Bowl Trivia Apps

If you consider yourself a Super Bowl expert, check out Super Bowl Trivia apps. For the iPhone and iPad, Super Bowl Know It All will test your knowledge of players, teams and records set during past Super Bowl Games. This app is available for $0.99 in the iTunes App Store.

NFL Pro Tweets

NFL Player TwitterDo you wish you could watch the game with NFL players? NFL Pro Tweets might be the next best thing! Follow the pros’ tweets during the game. No, not the Giants or Patriots, but other NFL players who, like you, are watching the game instead of playing in it. This app from the NFL Players Association shows you the Twitter stream from NFL players. NFL Pro Tweets is available free in the iTunes App Store.

Other Tech Fun!

For more Super Bowl on social media, be sure to follow @SuperBowl2012 on Twitter, Like the Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee page on Facebook, and subscribe to the Super Bowl 2012 channel on YouTube.

Finally, be on the lookout for fun tech featured in Super Bowl ads this year, including Siri and QR Codes: Super Bowl Commercials Preview.

Will you be watching the Super Bowl? Will you be following along with tech? Are you rooting for the Giants or the Patriots? Let us know in the Comments Section below!

    Those are some apps Carolyn!

To be very honest I had never heard about superb Super Bowl Apps !! But I guess those who do love the game and have their smartphones ready are going to love the apps you have shared here.

Passing around a word to everyone in-case they are interested ๐Ÿ™‚

    Have a wonderful weekend ๐Ÿ™‚

Harleena, Thanks so much for sharing this post with others who may be interested in the Big Game! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hey Carolyn,

I wanted to stop by and support you on all your posts but I don’t watch football and didn’t even know who was playing. Tells you how up on all of that I am. Oh, I hear my Mom and brother gripe about our teams all the time but I barely have time to watch regular TV.

So, hope everyone enjoys these cool apps and the game too! Go whoever! ๐Ÿ™‚

      February 3, 2012 at 2:04 pm

Hi Adrienne, I knew this post wouldn’t be a good fit for everyone, but I’m so glad you stopped by to say “hi!” I hope you have a great weekend, even without football. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Thomas says

    February 3, 2012 at 3:28 pm

I will have to check them out Carolyn. Super Bowl is already Sunday and I better be ready for it ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Carolyn Nicander Mohr says

      February 3, 2012 at 3:30 pm

Hi Thomas, Thank goodness it’s Friday and you can turn your attention away from work and toward more important issues such as the Super Bowl. Enjoy! \:D/

  5. Hamish says

    February 3, 2012 at 3:32 pm

    Hi Carolyn,

I smiled at Adrienne’s comment above. I’m pretty much in the same boat – but being on the other side of the Atlantic does excuse my ignorance I hope.

What I need is an app to explain the rules I fear.

    • Carolyn Nicander Mohr says

      February 3, 2012 at 3:36 pm

Hi Hamish, Yes, I realized that everyone outside the US thinks of football as something very different. And I know from living in the UK until fairly recently that it’s difficult to watch the Super Bowl live even if you are a big US football fan, due to the time difference.

I’m so glad you asked about an app that explains the rules you fear, Hamish. I found just what you’re looking for! http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/soccer-football-rules/id319006961?mt=8

      Enjoy! ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Hamish says

    February 3, 2012 at 4:04 pm

    Carolyn,

You never cease to amaze me!

But then I suppose I should have known that there was an app for that! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Carolyn Nicander Mohr says

      February 3, 2012 at 8:58 pm

Your “one stop shopping” for tech here. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’d hate to disappoint you, Hamish, I aim to please.

  7. Hajra says

    February 3, 2012 at 5:19 pm

Ok, I ain’t a super bowl fan! I didn’t know what it was unless a few months back. Mostly because what we call football… is not what you guys call football! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Carolyn Nicander Mohr says

      February 3, 2012 at 8:57 pm

So true, Hajra. When I moved back to the US, it took me a while to remember football wasn’t what we call soccer. Super Bowl is a big deal here in the US, especially when big rivalry teams are playing, like this year. Even people who aren’t football fans enjoy the game and the parties. The television commercials are fun too!

Thanks for stopping by and leaving your comment, Hajra. I hope you have a great weekend! ๐Ÿ™‚

Have you tried the PrePlay Sports app? Really fun predictive gaming app for football…very engaging, hard to put down

    • Carolyn Nicander Mohr says

      February 3, 2012 at 9:25 pm

Hi David, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech. I hadn’t heard of that app, but it looks fantastic. Here is a link for anyone who wants to check out this free app in the iTunes App Store: PrePlay

Thanks so much for sharing this app with us, David! ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Janet Callaway says

    February 3, 2012 at 9:26 pm

Carolyn, aloha. Great sounding apps which I look forward to sharing. Though I am not a football fan, I am attending a party on Sunday so, because of you, I will be able to dazzle them with my tech knowledge.

Off to share. Best wishes for a wonderful weekend. Aloha. Janet

P.S. BTW, I have not forgotten your love & tech post. Look forward to reading it in detail and commenting.

The best? The commercials! That’s a really cool app! I know a ton of people who will love this info. Passing it on. Thanks Carolyn!

    • Carolyn Nicander Mohr says

      February 4, 2012 at 9:16 pm

Hi Betsy, You’re not alone. The commercials are a highlight for many people. I used to have a DVR that had a code you could enter to skip over the program and just watch the commercials. The Super Bowl was the only time anyone ever used this feature, I bet.

  11. Stan Faryna says

    February 4, 2012 at 6:50 am

    Carolyn,

You’re on the ball with this!

    I have two questions.

Is there live mobile streaming for the game?

Is there live web streaming for the game?

I’d be grateful for your recommendations and URLs!

P.S. Email me the answers if you get a chance. Thanks!

    • Carolyn Nicander Mohr says

      February 4, 2012 at 9:05 pm

Hi Stan, Great questions! You’ll be happy to know that the answer is yes to both questions. The game is being streamed live on two websites: NBC Sports and nfl.com. No word on whether those streams will be blocked outside the US.

Verizon customers can stream the game live on Android phones, iPhones and iPads using the Super Bowl XLVI app mentioned above. Again, no word on whether the app will work outside the US.

I will email you this response to make sure you have a chance to enjoy the Super Bowl, Stan! ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. Jens P. Berget says

    February 4, 2012 at 8:36 am

The apps looks awesome, even though I have never ever watched the Super Bowl ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Carolyn Nicander Mohr says

      February 4, 2012 at 9:01 pm

Hi Jens, As you’re six hours ahead of the US, it would be difficult for you to watch live and still be awake for work the next day (kick-off is at 6:20 pm EST). But you’re absolutely correct, the apps are awesome! ๐Ÿ™‚

Congratulations on receiving the award yourself! Your blog is incredibly creative with all of the wonderful topics you cover.

Yes, football in the US is different from football in the rest of the world. US football is a lot of fun. You may want to watch it sometime. The NFL plays one game a season in Wembley Stadium! **== ๐Ÿ™‚
