As countries begin lifting their COVID travel restrictions, you may want to start planning your next trip. But researching ever-changing travel restrictions can be challenging.
Travel company sherpa has developed an interactive travel map that shows where you can go, and what COVID restrictions you’ll encounter, as you plan your next trip. You’ll be able to see which countries around the globe have travel restrictions and what restrictions they have, based on your passport and your vaccination status.

Using sherpa’s COVID Restrictions Map
Sherpa’s COVID travel restrictions map can help guide you to plan your next trip. Head to the sherpa map website to begin exploring restrictions around the world. Enter the country where your passport is from and select Yes or No for whether you are fully vaccinated.
Currently, the website is available in 22 different languages around the world. Use the drop-down menu in the upper right corner of the screen to select your language.
Enter the country of your passport and whether you’re fully vaccinated. Sherpa’s map shows countries that are color-coded based on their COVID travel restrictions and your passport and vaccination status.
The countries are colored as follows:
- Dark green countries are open for travel, without COVID restrictions
- Light green countries are open for travel with required COVID testing
- Yellow countries require testing and quarantine upon arrival
- Beige countries restrict travel and only allow entry for returning citizens
- Grey countries have unknown restrictions
The color-coding gives you a general idea of the current restrictions for each country. Hover your cursor over a country (or tap if you’re on a mobile device) to see the specific restrictions for that country.
Filtering
You can filter the map to show only countries with specific restrictions. For example, if you only want to consider traveling to countries with no restrictions based on your passport and vaccination status, you can use the filter to show only dark green countries. Click the Filter button and select which restrictions you are willing to consider.
Future Travel
Note that the color-coding of countries is based on the current restrictions. If you’re traveling in the future, head to the sherpa future travel site that lets you enter your planned travel date and destination. That site will show known travel restrictions for that country as of that date.
This sherpa site also shows a list of recent changes to travel restrictions for countries around the world. You can also see upcoming changes to COVID travel restrictions that have been announced by different countries.
Vaccinated vs. Non-Vaccinated
If you have not yet been vaccinated, the sherpa map may give you an incentive to wait until you’re vaccinated to travel. You can easily compare COVID restrictions in countries for vaccinated travelers versus non-vaccinated travelers to see the differences.
What Else You Should Know
While sherpa’s interactive travel map can be very helpful in planning your travel, you should also confirm the information with government websites before committing to any travel plans. Sherpa cautions, “Information is provided as guidance only and accurate at the time of publishing. Always check government websites and airline materials before booking and traveling.”
Also be mindful that COVID travel restrictions change frequently, based on rapidly changing COVID infection rates.
Your Thoughts
Have you considered making travel plans now that some countries have loosened COVID restrictions? Do you like the idea of being able to see countries on a map that are color-coded according to their COVID restrictions? Would you use sherpa’s interactive map to plan your next trip?
