What’s better than an app that’s free? How about an app that pays you! That’s right, you can actually make profit from apps. Sure, you may not earn enough to quit your job, buy a yacht and sail around the world, but you could make some extra money by using these apps.
Whether you want to get paid for sharing your original photos, shopping, watching a video, seeing ads, or voting in polls, you can start the cash and prizes rolling in when you use these apps.
Snapwire
Snapwire is an app and website that pays you real money for your original photography. This marketplace brings photographers and clients together, and you don’t have to be a pro to get paid for your photos!
This video shows you how Snapwire works:
Selling Your Photos
Register for an account, then take a photo with your camera or phone and submit it via the Snapwire website or app. Snapwire will keep the photo in your profile for sale. When someone purchases the rights to use your photo, you’ll get paid.
The app also lists requests for photos that their clients have submitted and the price that the clients are willing to pay. You can test your photography skills by taking the photo of the requested subject and submitting for sale.
Here are some examples of recent requests for photographs as well as the price offered to the winner:
- City Living $125
- Christmas Baby $500
- Presents, Packages and Bows $125
- Abandoned Buildings $10
You get to keep 70% of the money (Snapwire takes a 30% cut) and you retain the copyright to the photo.
Snapwire shows you the other photos that have been submitted for each request so you can see what your competition is (or you could just view Snapwire as a gallery of interesting photos). You can also get idea about ways to improve your photography skills by seeing other photographers’ work and compare it to yours.
If your photo is chosen by the client you’ll be paid via the app. Yea! You get paid and the satisfaction of winning the competition, plus have incentive to hone your photography skills. Bonus!
Snapwire also has a gaming aspect that encourages you to be active. You earn points for the photos you submit and nominations from potential buyers. When you level-up in Snapwire you earn access to more photo requests and get extra benefits.
You can read more about the rules at the Snapwire website.
Buying Photos from Snapwire
Clients who want to purchase rights to photos can use Snapwire as well. If you’re looking to get a quality photo of a certain subject you can submit a request to Snapwire. Fill out a form stating what subject you want, what the photo will be used for, when you need it, and how much you’re willing to pay. You can add a narrative description and attach sample photos to your request.
The request is free and you have no obligation to purchase any photos.
Availability
Snapwire is available free as an app for iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch (Android is coming soon).
You can also use the Snapwire website to sell, buy and browse through photos.

Others apps that pay to use are: Tsu its an invite only app that pays you for sharing content. Also Swagbucks has a mobile app that you earn money or gift cards for online activities you normally do. PanelApp is one that pays for doing your normal errands.

Hi Stacey, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! Thanks for contributing to the conversation and sharing with us other apps that pay you to use them.

Hi Carolyn,
Thank you. Sounds great.
Sites like 500px market your photos for about the same percentage, but most of the time you do not get to keep your copyright.
This is a bit different and sounds appealing.
Since I am a passionate photographer first, and would-be blogger second, this hits the spot very nicely.
Going to check it out in detail.
Thanks a lot.
Nick

Hi Nick, I’m so glad you’ll be checking out Snapwire. Any photographer can join, you don’t have to be a pro. Why not upload some of your best photos and see what happens? You might have just the photo someone is looking to buy!
You’re right, it’s great you get to keep the copyright to your photo. There’s really nothing to lose in giving Snapwire a try.

That’s a pretty cool list Carolyn and I haven’t heard of these before. Of course some I wouldn’t be able to contribute to but some I would.
I’ll have to check into these when I have more time. Really hoping around the holidays as I take some time to myself again this year.
Thank you so much for these shares and I’m thinking about you.

Hi Adrienne, Yes, you’d be very busy if you tried to use all of these apps! But you if you find a few that work for you, well that’s great!
Thanks for your warm wishes and support, Adrienne!

Hi Carolyn,
I can see now why you wanted me to read this. I’ll have to take a look at Snapwire. I might have an advantage when it comes to abandoned buildings! My photos would probably be different from the rest anyway, because I take them in the Black Country.
I photographed a town crier opening a mindful gifts shop this week. They sell gifts for people with dementia. I tried to get to a firework display last night, but there was traffic chaos and people were parking half a mile away! Today, should be an arts fest, but I’ve decided to stay in the warm and watch the stock market!

Hi Mike, I’m so glad you were able to make it over here to read this article. I thought of you immediately when I learned about Snapwire. You’re right, your photos are unique and what a great way for them to be discovered! You can upload them to Snapwire and submit some to respond to requests. Some of the awards are pretty good money!
