Welcome back to Tech-Knowledgy, where your tech question are answered!
Q. Could you tell me if it is necessary to change something in my account to not have the Facebook use my pictures? Have you heard anything like that? I’ve heard they were going to start using pictures I post on Facebook in ads!
A. Facebook has denied that they will be allowing advertisers to use your pictures: Facebook Blog. Here is a recent blog post from CosmoGeek further explaining that this rumor is a hoax: Hoax! Facebook Will Not Use Your Photos In Ads. However, if you want to keep control of your pictures: go into Account (in the upper right corner of your screen), click on Privacy Settings. Then under Posts by Me, click Friends Only. Next, scroll down to Things Others Share and under Photos and Videos You’re Tagged In, and click Friends Only.
Q. I’m shopping for a new tv and I’m looking at Vizio tv’s. Vizio says their tv’s have apps, but I don’t know what kinds of apps these are. Can I use my iPhone apps on my tv?
A. Newer models of televisions are being sold as “Internet ready” complete with apps. These televisions have their own apps, you can’t transfer your iPhone or Android apps to your tv. Here is a link to the Vizio website where their apps, such as Pandora, Netflix and Facebook are listed: Vizio Apps.
Now, instead of just comparing tv specs, you might want to consider comparing which apps a tv has and whether you can update the apps later (with Vizio you can update the apps). Have fun with your new tv!
Q. I just got a new iPad and I’m confused. Where do I go to buy the apps? Does Radio Shack or Best Buy sell apps?
A. Congratulations on getting your iPad! The only place to get iPad apps is the iTunes App Store. You can’t buy iPad apps in regular stores. You need to sign up for an iTunes account which means you need a credit card or iTunes Gift Card. Have fun exploring the App Store or check out Zoomappy, a website that makes searching in the App Store much easier!
Q. I’m a bad speller. I try to use spell check all the time, but sometimes when I’m typing an email, I just want to know how to spell a single word. I hate going through spell check or going to dictionary.com just to figure out one word. Any suggestions?
A. Here’s a helpful hint: if you’re not sure how to spell a word, start typing the word in the search box on your browser. Google (or Bing, Yahoo, etc.) will start suggesting words as soon as you start typing even one letter. You may not even have to type the entire word before Google has given you your answer. Quick and easy!

Hi Carolyn,
I use Google all the time to check my spelling. That’s a really great tip. It’s fast, and it’s very reliable (at least that’s my experience so far).
I’ve also heard about the Facebook hoax, and I was a little worried at first. But, then I realized that I didn’t have that many pictures in Facebook ๐
