Tech-Knowledgy: How to Set Android Wallpaper

The estimated reading time for this post is 1 minutes

Q: I saw your article on how to change iPhone wallpaper. How can I change the wallpaper on my Android phone?

A: In Tech-Knowledgly: How to Set iPhone Wallpaper, I explained how you can set ย iPhone wallpaper. Setting wallpaper on an Android phone is easily done too. Wallpaper choices on Android phones are even more fun than on the iPhone because on Android phones you can have Live Wallpapers, meaning they are animated. Imagine fish swimming around in an Aquariumย on your Android phone.

To change wallpaper on your Android phone, go into Camera and then press the picture on the lower right corner. This will show your photos on the phone. Pick the photo you want ย and press More in the lower right corner. Press “Set As” on the menu that appears, then choose Wallpaper. Go to your home screen and the photo will appear.

You can use your own photos or download wallpaper apps from the Android Market and the Amazon App Store. Lots of free wallpaper apps are available, including Live Wallpaper.

Be careful with Live Wallpaper. The animation of Live Wallpaper can drain your battery faster than streaming Netflix videos. If you discover that your battery can’t hold a charge very long and takes a long time to re-charge, you may want to consider going back to regular wallpaper.

For a full library of free wallpaper (and ringtones), check out the Zedge app in the Amazon App Store: Zedge.

Have you tried Live Wallpaper apps? What wallpaper do you use on your Android phone? Let us know in the Comments section below!

Hi Adrienne, I love sea life too, but unfortunately my screenshot from my Android phone makes it look like the fish are swimming in an oil spill, lol! Trust me, on my phone it looks a lot better.

While you were leaving this comment, I was watching your WordPress videos. They are very helpful and practical, highly recommended! ๐Ÿ™‚

Ah thank you Carolyn, glad you were enjoying them.

You are a pro now. I have no doubt you can do some of those yourself. Just walk people through what they need to learn. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Adrienne, You’re a natural with the videos! Who knows, I might try another one soon. ๐Ÿ™‚ You inspired me to redo my dashboard home screen. I hadn’t really paid attention to it much.

The videos are very helpful, even form someone who has been blogging a while!

Carolyn, aloha. Great looking wallpaper. As I watching, it dawns on me that not a single person I see live, has an Android–or if they do they certainly don’t talk about it like my iPhone friends and thus I don’t know. Tomorrow I am heading for the Mainland so I can going to see how many Android folks I encounter.

As it happens, I already know certain people on the Mainland have iPhones or BB, however, not a single Android user comes to mind.

Hmmmm. Best wishes for a Spectacular Sunday. Aloha. Janet

Hi Janet, Wow, that’s interesting so many people you know in Hawaii have iPhones. If you pay close attention, you will see plenty of people on the Mainland with Android phones. They aren’t rare at all.

Have a great trip! Let me know if you’re headed anywhere near Philadelphia, I’d love to get together with you! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hey Carolyn,

Another interesting app from your app treasure box :). I was frankly not much interested in changing the wall papers ( not much a fan of arts ๐Ÿ™‚ but this has got me interested in it.
I am going to try this on my phone and download them asap ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for letting us know about this

Hi Ashvini, I have to say, this aquarium live wallpaper doesn’t use up much battery life, just a little more than regular wallpaper. I had live fireworks wallpaper this summer that was beautiful and cool but used up a full charge in about two hours. Re-charging took about 12 hours. I had to get rid of it.

Wallpaper is just one of those things that makes life a little brighter! ๐Ÿ™‚

I just jail-broke my HP TouchPad to install the Android on top of the WebOS. I should say that I am quite happy with having the dual-boot option between the two, though I prefer the Android.

Coming to wallpapers, i am still using the age-old aquarium, and am really bored of it now. I will surely try the zedge app today. Thanks for sharing

Hi Praveen, Great job getting the best of both worlds. My brother has a TouchPad and an iPad and he prefers the TouchPad because of its operating system. But he is very limited in the number of apps available with WebOS.

I like my aquarium wallpaper, but I’m sure after I have it for a while it will seem old. The good news is that there are so many free wallpapers to choose from, especially with Zedge!

Carolyn – One of the best features of the WebOS is that it allows multi-tasking unlike iPad. I love that feature, but of course there are limited apps and is not having any support from HP.

Let me know if you are interested in jail-breaking and I can send you the instructions. It is pretty easy and shd take less than 15mins.

    Carolyn,
I’ve got a family of Android fans and I’m the lone cowboy with my Apple promoting it as I go. Anyhow, I do love Android and forwarded this to the Google bunch.
