Nothing says love like tech. Why waste your money on roses that wilt or chocolate that’s eaten and forgotten?
If you’re looking for a romantic gift that says you care, look no further than tech. Tech gifts endure, at least until they’re made obsolete by an updated model. Here are some tech gifts that are sure to warm the cockles of any heart, tech lover or just lover.
The iCade Arcade Game Cabinet for iPad is a big hit among those who remember the classic days of arcade games such as Centipede, Asteroids, Pong and Missile Command. Pop your iPad into the device and start playing retro-style. This accessory is compatible with Atari’s Greatest Hits Game Pack, available in the iTunes App Store. If your beloved happens to be an iPad app developer, definitely get him this to inspire him to create more games for this device! iCade is $79.99 at Amazon.
If your loved one got an iPad, Kindle (ereader or the Fire), or Nook for the holidays, cover it in style with a custom case from M-Edge. M-Edge allows you to use your own photos on covers for these devices. You can use different images for the front and back sides of the covers. Add text and other graphics to enhance your cover. No one will ever mistake your device for theirs with one of these covers! Custom covers are $40 at M-Edge.
It’s not the hover-board from Back to the Future, but Freerider Skatecycle could be the next best thing. If your loved one wants to have fun while looking cool, Skatecycle is the way to go. This next generation skateboard is bound to put a smile on his face as he learns new skills with this innovative board. Skatecycle is available for $149.95 at Amazon.
If your loved one can’t put down her smartphone but is getting frostbite on her fingers, check out the Agloves Capacitive Touch Screen Gloves. These gloves allow your beloved to use her smartphone while keeping her fingers toasty warm. Agloves are available for $15.99 from ThinkGeek.
Whether your partner is a Mad Men fan or just wants a more comfortable way to talk on his cell phone, check out this retro handset. This device only looks old school. In fact, it connects via Bluetooth to keep you connected cord-free. The Off the Hook Handset is on sale for $25 at Brookstone.
If your significant other has always wanted a pet but lives in a place where they’re forbidden, give her an electronic goldfish in a bowl. She will be captivated by her new pet as he swims around tirelessly, entertaining her for hours. The best news? There’s no fish tank to clean! Grab Electronic Goldfish in a Bowl from ThinkGeek for $19.99.
If the geek in your life wants to shout her geek status to the world, help her by getting her a very cool geek t-shirt. Nothing says love like a t-shirt, especially one that professes geek qualities. SnorgTees has a wide selection of t-shirts for your favorite geek. My favorite is a classic for $19.95. SnorgTees.
If your favorite geek prefers more formal attire, check out these USB flash drive cufflinks. These cufflinks are available in a variety of styles and store up to 2 GB of data each. Your loved one will be feeling like James Bond in no time! These cufflinks are available for $199-$255 from Amazon.

Ashvini says
Hi Carolyn,
Awesome collection of gifts in the post .
Actually I got mine, an “apple” mini which can help me record music :). Actually its cost is kind of jointly shared π .
I am still to decide what gift to give. Though my wife says that just greeting cards are great but I do not agree with her. Now after 6 years of marriage and almost 10 years of being together , we almost have everything that we wanted .
The next dream of both of ours is to convert my site into a fledgling business which will obviously take some time.
I already have some plans to surprise her. Greeting cards are though mandatory π LOL.
Great post and enjoyed reading it.
BTW:Alaska chic contacted me and we are in the process of solving her problem.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Ashvini, What a lovely issue you have, trying to decide what to get for your bride. Although you are surely blessed with abundances, perhaps she is in need of an electronic goldfish? If she already has one, perhaps her fish would like a mate? π
Ashvini says
Hi Caorlyn,
I was not done with thinking about gift for wife. Now I have to think about Goldfish too LOL π
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
What’s there to think about? The goldfish is clearly the best gift…unless that Skatecycle is tempting. π
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Ashvini, Make sure to check out Rohit’s comment to you below! π
Jens P. Berget says
I just love the freerider skatecycle. This is the first time I have seen it. I’m almost 40, but I feel like a teenager watching this. That’s the perfect gift for valentine’s day (maybe not to my wife though) π
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Jens, I could just see you on the Skatecycle. You might want to wait until the Spring thaw in Norway though! You should have your wife pop by this post and show her. Perhaps Amazon offers free international shipping? π
Hamish says
Hi Carolyn,
Those are some pretty cool gift ideas right there! I am torn between the skate board and the cufflinks.
On the other hand, if I don’t get my wife chocolates for Valentine’s day then it will definitely be a day to remember (but for all the wrong reasons).
Best Regards,
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Hamish, I understand your dilemma. Please be sure not to use the cufflinks to download data whilst using the Skatecycle.
Hamish says
Hi Carolyn,
You see – that’s why I like your blog so much! Tech updates and marital guidance all rolled into one. It’s becoming my one-stop-shop. π
That chocolate site is also pretty cool. If it tastes as good as it looks I may have to commit.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
The Wonder of Tech aims to please. :-bd
Rohit Batra says
Giving Surprises still after 10 years of being together really good Ashvini Bro. Carolyn, Gift Ideas were really cool. But I am still single so I won’t get any or give any to some one. Hope to get a Valentine till next year (I say this every year π Lolz)
Rohit Batra says
Looks like I posted my reply to Hamish mistakenly. It was for Ashvini
Ashvini says
Rohit Thanks , sometimes I wonder about it too π hahah!!! But till now it has gone good so there is no reason to suspect otherwise.
Don’t worry about your not having a valentine. You will find her soon. Next time you will gift to someone else rather than yourself. My best wishes π
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Rohit, Why not give yourself a gift for Valentine’s Day? You deserve it! Perhaps the Skatecycle catches your eye? π
Rohit Batra says
Yeah Carolyn, They look great. At first when i saw them I didn’t really understood what there then saw that video you had placed just below than got it that those were skates..
I would really like to give it as a valentine gift to myself but here there is no such good track to skate on. I have those normal skates i liked to do but now tracks are not so good that you can skate π
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Good point, Rohit, you do need a good place to use the Skatecycle. Safety first! π
Adrienne says
Oh, I remember Valentine’s Day! That’s when the person you’re with gives you something lovely. lol…
Okay, it’s been years since I’ve seen a gift on this day. But if I had someone special to spend it with I admit, I would much rather just have flowers. Flowers are Mother Nature’s gift to us and I will lovingly accept them hands down.
These are still cool tech gift though and you always come through for us Carolyn. Great job!
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Adrienne, Before I was married, during those times when I didn’t have a significant other to shower me with tech gifts for Valentine’s Day, I would treat myself to something special for Valentine’s Day. We must love ourselves first, right, Adrienne?
Actually I never bought myself a tech gift for Valentine’s Day but I used to send myself flowers. Yes, I did. Ha!
I looked for you, Adrienne, and found a tech flower. You can give it to your mom or to yourself. No need to go without a tech gift just because you’re single on February 14!

Adrienne says
I guess I’ve never been a big gift person Carolyn. It’s not that I don’t think I’m special or deserve it, it was just never important.
I have bought myself flowers numerous times and I use to tell my significant others that they didn’t have to spend a fortune on flowers, one single carnation would do or one red rose. I just love the scent and they are just so beautiful. I can make them last well over seven days so they are never wasted on me. Plus, they made me very very happy if you know what I mean. π
I am getting a wonderful gift this Valentines tho. I’m going dancing with my brother, my sister-in-law and my nephew is my date. I’ll be spending the night with them and the majority of that day because we’re all going to give blood to help a friend who has cancer. It will be a wonderful time.
Thank you for this link. You are my go to girl for sure Carolyn. I do always send my Mom a card tho. Can’t leave her out! π She’s definitely my Valentine!
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Wow, what a great date you have for Valentine’s Day, Adrienne! I doubt anyone can top that! (*)
Hajra says
I am celebrating the day with my mother too! Actually, I am single this year, so why not spend it with someone who means much more and will always be there no matter what!
I don’t gift her flowers; I just cook a meal for her. I am a terrible cook but that day or some other special day I like cooking for her and she always gets upset because I didn’t take her cooking genes (she is an awesome cook) and then the perfect mother daughter we argue a bit ! π
Harleena Singh says
Wonderful list Carolyn!
A perfect reminder about Valentine just round the corner, and the right time to buy things for your loved ones π
I think the electronic goldfish is extremely effective and cute, and something anyone would love, especially for those who don’t like keep real fish. Even the USB flash drive cufflinks are something new and different!
Thanks for the wonderful reminder and for sharing such goodies with all of us π
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Harleena, Wow, you just led me to wonder, what if you put the electronic goldfish bowl next to a real goldfish in a bowl? Would the real one be confused?
I like that gift too, Harleena. I hope your Valentine’s Day is filled with lovely tech gifts! π
Praveen Rajarao says
Awesome gifts, i like the electronic goldfish, will surely give it a thought. The USB drive also looks good and i think my wife will really love to have that.
Thanks for putting up the list at the right time.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Praveen, The goldfish does seem to be a hit. I can see why, it’s a cute little fish.
Please let us know what you name your fish, Praveen. π
Janet Callaway says
Carolyn, aloha. Dashing out the door so will be back later to comment. However, I felt that I had to comment on your opening sentence.
“Nothing says love like tech.”
Really? Are you sure about that? What did we ever do before tech? Of course, you probably ask yourself that question all the time. Be back later, my friend. Until then, aloha. Janet
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Janet, Thanks for stopping by as you were dashing out the door. As you read more of this article, you will note into cheek was my tongue firmly planted. π
Hajra says
Hey Carolyn,
Is it that time of the year already? π
The electronic gold fish is cute but I love the cuff links somehow! π
My nephew tells me that I should be celebrating valentines with him in California and if I do that he has promised me that I can keep his iPad… kids are somehow more technologically gift capable than I can ever be! π
I think relying on plain ol flowers and chocolates is a thing of the past eh? π
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Hajra, That is very kind of your nephew to offer you his iPad. You just need to figure out a way to tell him politely that you would prefer an electronic goldfish to an iPad. Let him down gently, my friend. π
CarolB says
Love these ideas! The hardest part is choosing which one I like best. I think I have to go with the goldfish in the bowl. Think I can convince my husband and son these are real fish? lol
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Carol, Absolutely no problem. Even the most devoted fisherman would be fooled by this fish. He swims around so quickly that no one can get a good look at him.
I wonder if you got one fish each for your son and husband and put them in one bowl, if they would play nicely together. The fish, that is, not your husband and son. π
CarolB says
I might just have to try that out! Now if I can only find virtual crickets to feed my son’s toad with, I’d be happy! Oh, and a virtual toad too! 8->
iRewardChart says
Nothing says ILoveYou in a more geekier way than giving these pillows:
CTRL, ALT, DELETE.
iRewardChart says
or even these
Social Media.
Though my wife will disown me if I gave her anything like that.
π
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi iRewardChart, I do love geeky pillows. I suggested the social media ones in my Ultimate Holiday Gift Guide in November: https://wonderoftech.com/2011/11/your-ultimate-holiday-tech-gift-guide/.
I have to agree with your wife, however. I’m sure these pillows sell well, but I can’t see having them in my house. π
Bill Dorman says
I think you left one off; what about Bushnell Yardage Pro Sport 450 Laser Rangefinder. Now that’s a tech gift everyone can enjoy……….:). Ok, maybe just the husbands (or wives if they play too).
Interesting gadgets indeed; unfortunately, mine still has to have the word ‘free’ attached to it before I can play. HOWEVER, my youngest starts to work on the 13th and will at least be making enough money to cover his living expenses so maybe the ‘right’ gadgets are in my future.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Bill, Hmmβ¦Your son starts work on the 13th, Valentineβs Day is the 14th. No problem! He has plenty of time to rack up the dough you need to celebrate Valentineβs Day in style.
Iβm thinking the Skatecycle for your lovely wife and the Off the Hook handset for you. Sure, you could look cool with your new iPhone held up to your ear, but why not take cool to a new level with a retro handset? Your buddies in the office would be very jealous! π
Bill Dorman says
My buddies are already jealous; they all want to be me, but I guess they will just have to get in line, huh?………………yikes…………..:)
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Good point. You don’t need tech to be cool. (*)
Bryce Christiansen says
Hi Carolyn,
I loved all the tech gifts from Think Geek. I have a friend that is obsessed with that site so it was fun to see that you appreciated the site as well.
I may have to hint this article to my wife π
Bryce
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Bryce, I have to confess, I’m a big ThinkGeek fan too. I hope your wife finds something fun and romantic for you for Valentine’s Day! π
Mushfique says
WOW ! Now those are some unique gifts there! Great list I must say! Well, if I had to choose one of them, I would go for the Goldfish! Sounds great for a gift! π
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Mushfique, I’m so glad you like these gifts. The goldfish is great. I bet that’s a big seller this Valentine’s Day. Imagine all the couples that this little fish will make happy on February 14! π
Steve Hughes says
A lot of great ideas here Carolyn. I would love to have the Asteroids machine in the basement. Those were some good times. π
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Steve, The iCade is very cool, but it’s much smaller than your typical Asteriods arcade machine. Think of the iCade as you portable Asteroids player. Yes, you can have it in the basement, but you could also carry it upstairs to the kitchen, family room, etc.
Another improvement is that no quarters are required to play! π
Janet Callaway says
Carolyn, aloha. Truly a fun list of items. As soon as I finish typing this comment, I am going to tell some people I know about M-Edge. One gentleman I know is a new grandfather and he stares at pictures of his new granddaughter constantly. So, even though it may not arrive in time for Valentine’s Day, I am going to suggest to his wife, my iLife friend, that she get it for him.
Though no one comes to mind, I do find myself quite taken with the cufflinks.
Thanks so much for these treasures, Carolyn.
Best wishes for a terrific week ahead. Aloha. Janet
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Janet, As I recall, the M-Edge case we ordered for our daughter came much more quickly than we expected, though perhaps the company is receiving a lot of orders for Valentine’s Day now. But the custom cases are very, very cool. I bet your friend’s husband will really enjoy it! π
Sarah says
What a fantastic list!
I could have done with the iPhone gloves this morning. Brrrr!
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Sarah, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! Same here, we woke up to snow this morning. The landscape was beautiful! π
