Why You Should Explore Twitter’s New Explore Tab

The estimated reading time for this post is 2 minutes

Twitter once again is changing the way you find tweets. The Moments tab has been replaced by the Explore tab, designed to make it easier for you to find information on Twitter.

Twitter Explore

The Explore tab is filled with features, making it important for you to explore it. In fact, if you don’t explore Explore, you may wonder where Search, Trends and other sections are in Twitter.

Where to Find the Explore Tab

The Explore tab is found in the bottom menu bar on the Twitter app, where the Moments tab used to be.

Twitter Explore Tab Icon

Explore is currently available only for iPhone and iPad in the updated Twitter app. If you don’t see Explore in the app, be sure you’ve updated the app and it should appear.

According to the official Twitter blog, Explore will be coming to the Twitter Android app within a few weeks.

We’re introducing a new way for you to discover what’s happening on Twitter, with Explore.https://t.co/tlHcqLCHj7

No word from Twitter on when or if Explore will be available on the Twitter website.

What Is In the Explore Tab

The Explore tab is more useful than the Moments tab was because Explore has more contained within it.

Popular videos or tweets are at the top of the Explore section.

Twitter Moments Sample

Explore also includes Trends, Search, Moments and Explore All. Each section has a preview of the top listings and you can tap “More” to see a more expanded list.

Trends

If you’re looking to see what’s trending on Twitter, you’ll find it at the top of the Explore section.

Twitter Trends in Explore

The trends you see on Twitter can be tailored to your interests and location, or you can choose a different location.

Search

If you’re searching for the spyglass Search icon in Twitter, you won’t find it in the main section of Twitter. Instead, that icon is used for the Explore tab.

At the top of the Explore section is a search bar you can use to type in search terms, #hashtags, @TwitterIDs and keywords.

Moments

The Moments feature isn’t disappearing. Instead, Moments is found in the Explore tab below Trends. Moments is a collection of what Twitter views as important tweets on trending topics.

Explore All

Explore All shows you categories for you to explore. The categories showing on my Explore All section include:

  • NFL
  • News
  • Sports
  • Entertainment
  • Fun

I’m thinking these categories will change based on time and location. NFL (National Football League) gets the prime spot at the top of Explore All. After the Super Bowl, the NFL may disappear from Explore All. Also, users from outside the US may not see NFL in their Explore All section.

Fun may or may not match your definition of fun. Expect silly tweets that may bring a smile.

Twitter Explore Tab Fun

I do wish Twitter had a Tech section or that you could customize your Explore All categories.

Twitter, if you’re reading this, please include a Tech section in Explore All. Thank you, on behalf of Wonder of Tech readers.

Your Thoughts

Have you seen the new Explore tab in the Twitter app? Were you wondering where Search and Trends went on the Twitter app? Which categories would you like to have in the Explore All section?

    Hi Carolyn,

    Happy Monday πŸ™‚

This sure is news, as I was thinking of Moments, as I’d read all about it at your blog, and now it’s replaced by Explore! Must check it out!

Honestly speaking, I don’t have any social medias on my mobile because of the notifications, so wouldn’t know until I use it through my mobile. And as you mentioned, it’s still coming up slowly, so we wait and watch. It sure has lots of good features and options to choose from. Worth checking out for sure!

Thanks for sharing. Have a nice week ahead πŸ™‚

Hi Harleena, Happy Monday to you too!

Yes, Twitter app users might become confused if they don’t know about the Explore update. Some might think Moments have gone away, but they haven’t, they’re in Explore.

Also people might wonder where search and Trends have gone but again, they’re in Explore.

Explore is an extremely useful tab, but if people don’t explore it, they will miss out. I hope Twitter has much success with Explore (and that they add a Tech category!).

Hi Loretta, Yes, those who use other apps to access Twitter may never see the Explore tab. But Twitter is making its own app more useful with the Explore tab.
