Last week, Twitter announced that it’s testing a way to control your mentions by adding an “Unmention” feature. While many people on Twitter yearn to be mentioned, there may be times when mentions are unwelcome. Twitter conversations can turn ugly, mean-spirited, and truly nasty. Or Twitter conversations may drag on beyond their useful life and suddenly your notifications are flooded by mentions.
If only there were a way to remove yourself from a Twitter conversation…
About the New Twitter Unmention Feature
Twitter announced in a tweet last week that it’s testing a new feature by letting some users Unmention themselves in conversations.
How do you say “Don’t @ me,” without saying “Don’t @ me”?

The new Unmention feature is available for some, but not all, Twitter users. Twitter is testing this feature on the web version of its site only, not on its apps.
By using Unmention, you can remove tags to your account in a Twitter conversation. Your Twitter account name will still appear in the conversation, but the link to your account will be removed. Your account name will turn gray so people who view the tweets mentioning you will see that you’ve used the Unmention feature for that conversation. With Unmention activated, people will no longer be able to mention you in future replies to the conversation and you will no longer receive notifications about replies in the conversation.

How to Use the Twitter Unmention Feature (If You Have It)
If you want to check to see whether you have this new Twitter feature, go to Twitter on the Web and open the Notifications section. Click the Mentions tab at the top of the screen. Find a tweet where you have been mentioned.
Click the three dots in the upper right corner of the tweet. A menu will open. Look in the menu for an option to Leave this conversation. If you don’t see that menu option, then you don’t have access to the Unmention feature (yet).
If you do see that option, click Leave this conversation. You’ll see a confirmation appear. Click Leave this conversation to confirm your choice.
Or click Nevermind, I’ll stay if you change your mind or were just testing out the new feature.
