Pivot Power Strip

This is one of those “why didn’t someone think of this earlier?” products. Pivot power is a power strip that pivots, hence the name. A simple solution to an annoying problem.
Fit all of your plugs onto a power strip without having any outlets blocked. Curl it into the shape you want to nestle it around a table leg and keep it out of the way.
Here’s a video showing the brilliant simplicity of this product.
Pivot Power is available for $29.95 from Quirky.

Nuu MiniKey Keyboard Case for iPhone 4/4S
If your sweetheart struggles to type on the glass screen of an iPhone, check out this keyboard case. The Nuu MiniKey case for iPhone 4/4S has a slide out physical keyboard that connects with your iPhone 4 or 4S using a Bluetooth connection. The keyboard has a switch to turn the keyboard light on and off. The keys are well-spaced, enabling faster and more accurate typing than with an on-screen keyboard. More screen space is visible with this case than when using a virtual keyboard.
The case has its own battery so it doesn’t drain your iPhone battery. In testing, I found the battery of the NuuMiniKey to last about three weeks of heavy use before it needs to be recharged.
The NuuMiniKey is available from Amazon, currently priced at $53.01 with Prime shipping available.
Cruiser by Crosley Radio
Are your vinyl records collecting dust because you don’t have a turntable? Check out the Cruiser by Crosley Radio. This turntable has stereo speakers and can play your records at three different speeds: 78, 45 and 33 1/3. RPM.

HI Carolyn
Great post!
I really liked the pivot power strip, it is amazing at times the innovation lies in the solution to the simplest and the common problem which we overlook at times.
Thanks Carolyn for sharing these.
Sapna
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Sapna, Yes, I have the Pivot Power Strip and I love it. This is so handy to make sure everyone’s plugs fit into the outlet. The power plugs that are bricks can block three outlets but with the Pivot Power Strip, they only use one.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Sapna!
Ileane says
Hi Carolyn,
These are some really sweet gifts. My favorite is the turntable. I have much vinyl that I gave half of it away last year. I kept saying that I would convert everything and burn cd’s but that just never happened. This would be cool to pull out and put some of my collection to good use.
Thanks for the suggestions.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Ileane, Yes, you think you’re going to make good use of your albums but without a good turntable, that probably isn’t going to happen. I love the beautiful colors that the turntable comes in too.
I hope you enjoy your turntable, Ileane!
Ashvini says
Hey Carolyn,
I am not the first one to comment this time but anyway 😉 . If I had so much money, I would have gifted every thing that you have mentioned here. I really loved the underwater submarine and if has seats for two, it will be just awesome . But we just celebrated our pre-valentine day yesterday so we have some more days to think about what item to gift. Maybe one more trip :).
Your gift ideas are awesome. Have a great Vday.. hope you get the submarine lol 🙂
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Ashvini, The submarine is so cool! But I’m not sure I would actually enjoy a trip under the sea in one. I’ve never actually traveled in a submarine before and I might feel a wee bit claustrophobic in this one. But then again the experience might be truly amazing.
I already have the Pivot Power strip and the keyboard case so I think the Toshiba speaker would be my choice if I had to have one.
You’re right, a trip is a wonderful Valentine’s Day gift, Ashvini. I hope you and your wife had a lovely time!
Mayura says
Hi Carolyn,
Now here’s a lot of tech gifts 😉
Personal submarine?! Are you serious? I just love that and remind me of flying car you shared here. Well, the price might not affordable but you can see where it will lead our future, right? 🙂
I like the flexibility of Pivot Power Strip and the idea of having its own battery for Nuu MiniKey Keyboard is very thoughtful. 3 weeks of battery power is awesome. Well, how about the usability and durability Carolyn?
The next thing I love is Kiwi Diagnostic Kit 🙂 Oh how convenient it is. Were you able to test it out too dear? 🙂 I’d like to know more if you did. Now that’s gonna come in handy for many friends I know 🙂
Hmm… I wanna explore more details about Wireless Smartphone Photo Printer and see the maximum range of Bluetooth transfer it supports 😉 Oops… It says it transfers data via Wi-Fi dear. Support Bluetooth too? 🙂
Cheers…
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Mayura, Great point. While the idea of a personal submarine might seem outrageous now, perhaps someday personal submarines will be as common as automobiles. I was just watching a biography of Henry Ford and before he invented the assembly line, automobiles were only for the very rich. Tech generally drops in price so we all could be rocking submarines some day!
The usability of they Nuu MiniKey is fantastic. I don’t use it for all of my typing, but I use it if I have more than a few words to type. You can still use the onscreeen keyboard with it, when the keyboard isn’t out, the onscreen keyboard still works. The durability is great too. I have dropped my phone with it and the phone and the case were fine. I was going to write an entire review of the case but I didn’t get to it before the iPhone 5 was released.
I have not yet tried the Kiwi Diagnostic Kit. The Check Engine light in my car has never been lit (yea!), but the reviews for the kid were very strong.
Good catch on the printer. I originally was going to write about a printer that only worked with iPhone and iPad but then I found this one that worked with Android phones too. I forgot that this one worked with Wi-Fi, the other one worked with Bluetooth. I have updated the article to note the correction. Thanks for letting me know, Mayura!
Radu says
Hey, indeed some of the gifts are quite nice. I really like the Pivot Power, it will make my life easier if i have one. Maybe i will bribe my GF to get me one :))
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Radu, Yes, the Pivot Power is truly a handy tool to have around. It’s very frustrating situation when you have a power strip with multiple outlets but you can only use a few because power bricks block multiple outlets.
Enjoy your Pivot Power, Radu!
Jens P. Berget says
Hi Carolyn,
I still don’t understand where you find all the awesome tech. I haven’t heard of any of the tech gifts before. The ePure handset is something I would love to have in my office. On the other hand, I probably need to use a head set so I can write at the same time as I am talking on the phone.
I probably won’t buy any tech for my wife for Valentine’s day, since I bought her the iPad mini for Christmas 🙂
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Jens, Yes, I love that handset too. The design is gorgeous and I love the colors. It also comes in black if you want a serious office look.
Okay Jens, your wife looooved her iPad Mini, right? So that means she looooves tech gifts! See how it works? Men may think that women want flowers and chocolates but what we really crave is tech. :-bd
Dan Brackets says
That ePure handset is simple awesome. Great product.
When do you think something like that would make it’s way over to America?
Thanks for the post.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Dan, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! Good news, all of these gifts are available in the US. ePure is available from different retailers, but Open Sky had the best prices on the handset.
Adrienne says
I really like the first one Carolyn but some of these others are pretty cool too.
I heard that they have like a base phone that you can use if you want to use your cell but you prefer talking on a landline. Have you heard of that one where you plug your cell into that base and you can use a regular phone! I think that’s what my Mom needs if we can get it to ring too. She can’t hear the phone ring.
Cool gifts for Valentine Carolyn. You always come through with the neatest stuff.
~Adrienne
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Adrienne, thanks, I just love writing my tech gift list posts. I get to shop for tech without spending any money. I like to find fun and practical gifts for people, not just everyday tech that people know about already.
Yes, some companies such as AT&T have devices so you can use you cell phone connection as a land line phone, which can save people money over having a separate land line service.
babanature says
Hello Carolyn,
The gifts are tight for valentine and real lovely. i’d love the personal submarine, that would really be romantic exploring things with the person you love, underwater site seeing… lol. Nice post and do have a lovely week ahead.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Babanature, You’re right, that submarine ride could be very romantic! I imagine any date would be very impressed with a personal ride under the sea. What a great way to show your true love your true love!
Thanks so much for stopping by and for your good wishes. I hope you have a great week too!
sanchit says
Hi Carolyn,
Nice blog again your all gadgets are very nice and helpful for daily life.
really these may be a good valentines day gift because by this you never forget your valentines’.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Sanchit, You’re right, these gifts would be fun to get for yourself, but if you have a sweetheart then these gifts would be great for Valentine’s Day too!
Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts!
Mike Maynard says
Hi Carolyn,
I like the thingy that help you find out what’s wrong with your car. Mine has lots of electronics and is a bit complicated. It’s a good car and really reliable. It has problems sometimes in bad weather, I think the damp gets into the electronics if I go through a deep puddle and the battery voltage goes too low at sub-zero temperatures. People tell me to change it, but it’s cheaper to drive around deep puddles and charge the battery once a year! 🙂
You’ll like today’s pictures. If I ever have an exhibition, some of these pictures will go in it. I took some really good ones yesterday.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Mike, I predict someday, when you get a smartphone, that you will get an Android phone, and not just because of this diagnostic kit.
Yes, if you can remember to charge your battery once a year and avoid deep puddles, your solution certainly seems like a practical one. Having lived in England, I would say the latter is your bigger challenge.
I will be right over to see your beautiful photos, Mike!
AjayKumar says
It’s an awesome list of valentine day gifts if your guy or girls loves gadgets than you can choose a tech gift from the above list. I like the Swarovski DJ Headphones for my girlfriend.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Ajay, I’m so glad you like this list. I bet your girlfriend would really like those headphones too!
Roger Bagby says
Great iPhone lens kit! It will be a perfect present for my girlfriend who is a beginning iphonographer. But traditional flowers will be present as well)
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Roger, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! Yes, if your girlfriend has an iPhone 5 and enjoys photography, she will really enjoy having extra lenses for her phone. I bet she’ll enjoy the flowers too!
Tim Bonner says
Hey Carolyn
That submarine would be cool. Hefty price tag though!
My wife’s not hugely into tech unfortunately but I love it. Saying that, she loves photos and takes lots of them with her iPhone, so the printer would go down well.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Tim, Good news! You don’t need to love tech to love these tech gifts. As you point out, your wife enjoys photography so the printer or the lens kit might be good gifts for her.
I’m a little confused though with your comment about the hefty price tag of the submarine. Have you price submarines lately? This one is a true bargain! 😉
Harleena Singh says
Amazing tech gifts, Carolyn!
Being far away from a tech person, I find these fascinating. Though I’ve been using a Power strip for years, I haven’t seen a thing like that ever! Yes, makes me wonder why we can’t think so different! I like the ePure Handset, may be because its design looks so simple. I never thought iPhone or any phone could’ve external lens mounted like that. The Cruiser brought back nostalgic memories of my parents’ old turntable that I fidgeted with when young.
I’m sure my husband would like the Kiwi Diagnostic Kit for his Andriod phone, and even the printer! But I’ll settle with the personal submarine! 🙂 I’ll wait till I collect that much amount of money.. may be till our retirement time! Lol!
Thanks for a good review of special Valentine’s Day gifts.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Harleena, I’m so pleased you like these tech gifts even though you’re not a techie! I try to find tech gifts that everyday people would like and can use in their lives. The submarine is so very cool. I can imagine what a romantic voyage a couple could have with that!
The ePure handset is very cool. It comes in lots of different colors or all black if you want a more serious look.
I wonder if turntables would have gone out of style if they looked like that back in your parents’ day!
Happy Valentine’s Day to you, Harleena!
Bill Dorman says
And when exactly is Valentine’s Day?
Cool beans, I like the camera adapter and the diagnostic app; maybe she’ll get that for me, huh?
This was chock full of cool stuff; wonder of tech, indeed.
Samantha says
love the pivot strip- hubby would love it. looks great
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Bill, I’m pretty sure Valentine’s Day is next week, but you may want to check on that. 😉
I’m so glad you found some gifts you would like in this list. I hope you don’t need the diagnostic kit because you’re having a problem with your car. If so, perhaps you should get the submarine for your commute to work? :-bd
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Bill, I do believe that Valentine’s Day is someday next week.
Yes, those gifts are good ones. Those camera lenses could help you take some fun pictures. And the diagnostic kit could give you a peek at what’s going on under the hood.
I hope you have a delightful Valentine’s Day, Bill!
Bharat Pant says
hello Carolyn
i loved these gadgets …
and yeah these gadgets makes Valentine week more special 🙂
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Bharat, I’m so glad you love these gadgets. Happy Valentine’s Day!
Karlon says
All the products displayed here are simply superb and I wouldn’t mind grabbing all of them(if I could). However the ones I liked the most are : pivot power strip, wireless photo printer, and personal submarine. No two ways about all of these being superb tech advents. Thanks for sharing the post.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Karlon, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! I’m so glad you were able to discover some gifts you like. These gifts have appeal to many people, not just techies.
I hope you get the gifts you want, Karlon. Especially the submarine!
Keith says
Amongst all these tech gifts specially put up for valentines day, I like the e Pure handset and the Swarovski DJ headphones. These are the two things that interest me a lot and I wish someone gifts them to me. Getting such gifts is a wonderful feeling to have on valentines day.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Keith, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! I’m so glad you like the headphones and the handset. They both are very cool and functional tech accessories. I hope you have a wonderful Valentine’s Day, Keith!
bonooobong says
I totally fell in love with that record player; I’ve got a lot of old jazz vinyls and I like that vintage retro design as well. I guess I’m going to buy it for my wife and we will use it together while listening to some swing in the night:)
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Bonoobong, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! You are certainly a romantic. I hope you and your wife have a lovely Valentine’s Day together! @};-
Mariya says
A gift from your beloved is precious and wanted undoubtedly, but when this gift is a tech gift, the expectation level goes high and you are impressed all over again. The tech items mentioned here are all good, and I can’t imagine anyone not being happy on receiving them.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Mariya, I’m so happy you like these gifts. You’re right, people will love these gifts, whether or not they are tech fans.
Happy Valentine’s Day, Mariya!
Stan Faryna says
Some cool things here, Carolyn.
Is the Yamamoto any good?
The Cruiser reminds me of my first record player. Looks just like it. I think I got it in 4th grade and I took it everywhere I went. Along with my one and only Kiss record.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Stan, I’m not surprised you like these tech gifts!
I don’t have an iPhone 5 so I didn’t test the lens kit. But it received good reviews which is why I included it here.
Yes, the Cruiser brings back memories, doesn’t it? I had a foldable record player too but believe me, it didn’t look cool like the Cruiser!
By the way, make sure you check out the shoutout to you in Happy Birthday to The Wonder of Tech! https://wonderoftech.com/happy-2nd-birthday-to-the-wonder-of-tech/ (*)
Manickam Vijayabanu says
Hi Carolyn,
Nice tools collection for Valentine..!!! I like the Cruiser Radio, Pivot power, and ePure and looks interesting.
These days the Valentine day sales become very huge and e-commerce driven business are really performing well. Hope the tools would help who preferably looking for valentine gift 🙂
Thanks for the post Carolyn.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Manickam, You’re right, Valentine’s Day sales here in the US are big, but people are still stumped about what to buy for that special someone. The traditional gifts, chocolate and flowers, may seem uninspired and will be gone quickly. These gifts are thoughtful and will be around for months before they become obsolete tech!
Jack says
I love this post, I was really confused about the Valentine gift this year, because I’m in relationship since 13 years, couldn’t find any different gift. I liked Wireless Smartphone Photo Printer & Cruiser Radio, would give any of these. Thanks for sharing.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hello Jack, Yes, I imagine after 13 years you might be challenged to come up with new ideas for Valentine’s Day gifts for your sweetheart. I’m so happy you were able to find some gifts here for your sweetie!
Happy Valentine’s Day, Jack! @};-
Sarah Park says
The Swarovski DJ headphone looks so cool. And it does cost a fortune.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Sarah, Yes, those headphones are definitely cool and definitely more expensive than your average headphones. But they are less expensive than the submarine! 😉
Steve says
Its hardly a week left for the Valentine, damn confuse about the gift, you have shared a really good post, thinking of giving Yamamoto iPhone Lens Kit, would be useful for me also lol, thanks a ton.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Steve, I’m so happy this was helpful to you. Happy Valentine’s Day to you and your sweetheart!
Dragos says
Very useful and interesting suggestions you’ve gathered here! Love the Nuu MiniKey Keyboard Case for iPhone 4/4S- makes the phone look a lot different!
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Dragos, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! You’re right, when I have this case on my phone, people will grab my phone to see how I managed to get a keyboard on my iPhone. It does add to the thickness and weight of the phone, but if you need to type a lot, the usefulness of this case may make the added bulk well worth it!
Praveen Rajarao says
Hahaha…i loved the power strip…i have like 5 of them now, and in each one I lose 2 outlets due to the nature of the design 🙁
Now this adds some sense to how to make it more usable. love it, love it.
Others too are quite amazing, especially the submarine, like the idea.
Hope you hv a wonderful Valentines day with all your loved ones.
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Praveen, I know, it’s so frustrating when you have a powerstrip with 5 outlets but you can only use two of them. This eliminates that problem, such a wonderful invention!
Let me know if you get that submarine, Praveen! 🙂 Happy Valentine’s Day to you and your sweetheart. @};-
Aaron Brinker says
Carolyn,
I love that pivot power strip! I think that is a great idea. Wrapping it around the back of a table leg could be beneficial because I wouldn’t have to hide it behind the couch and still have easy access to it! Awesome list Carolyn!
Aaron Brinker aka DadBlunders
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Aaron, I know, what’s more romantic than a power strip for Valentine’s Day, right?
I love the power strip, I have a couple of them myself and I was very excited to share them with Wonder of Tech readers.
Happy Valentine’s Day to you and your bride, Aaron!
Kyle says
Love the turntable, my wife has actually been wanting one of those for quite some time as she still has a bunch of old records from her youth. I might be swinging by Staples this weekend. Or is it an online only product?
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Kyle, Yes, this is a great gift for your wife. You can save yourself a trip to the store because the turntable is online only.
piyush wadhwa says
Hey Carolyn this is an amazing list of tech gifts specially the pivot power strip that’s a pretty useful one.
And the personal submarine thing is jjust amazing
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Piyush, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! Yes, that pivot power strip is very handy, but not as handy as the submarine if you need to explore the deep blue sea! 😉
piyush wadhwa says
Oh yeah sure it is but its price is way too high for most of the people to afford
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Very true, Piyush.
