What Tech Did You Get in 2013? [Poll]

The estimated reading time for this post is 1 minutes

2013 brought us many new devices, gadgets and other tech treats. Smartwatches were introduced, 3D printers became more popular and dozens of smartphones and tablets were launched. As technology advances (and it always does), many of us feel the urge to upgrade and get the latest and greatest gadgets.

2013 Gadgets

With each new device comes a learning curve. Those new features require us figuring out how to use them, which can be both exciting and a challenge. Many features we never realized we wanted turn out to be essential and we wonder how we did without them before. Other features we thought would be helpful we ignore and never end up using.

Did you get the tech you wanted in 2013? Was there a gadget that you were craving but didn’t get? Is there still tech on your wish list as you head into 2014?

Vote in today’s Wonder of Tech poll and let us know how your tech inventory changed in 2013:

Your Thoughts

Which new tech device did you get in 2013, if any? Was there a device that made a big difference in your daily life? Which new gadget would you recommend to others? Let us know in the Comments section below

    Hi Carolyn,

Oh yes….we purchased a Tablet for our younger one some months back. ๐Ÿ™‚

She’d been wanting one since a long time for her birthday, so it was a lovely surprise for her when we let her pick her choice, of course, within the budget we’d set for her. She was one thrilled teen, and enjoys surfing online and playing her endless games. Great list of techs, and yes, one keeps wishing for this and that, which is part and parcel of it all…lol ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for sharing. Wishing you a very Happy New Year, well in advance ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Harleena, A tablet is a big tech purchase, I’m glad your daughter is delighted with hers and using it so effectively!

Happy 2014 to you as well, Harleena. ๐Ÿ™‚

Great post Carolyn! Did you get any new techy toys? I didn’t but I did get a new 9mm Beretta Nano that excites me more than any kind of tech gadget I could get. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Happy New Year gf!

Hi Bren, I got an iPhone 5s, a Kindle Paperwhite and an iPad Air. I try to skip a generation with tech, but all three of my favorite tech devices got an upgrade in 2013. I hope you are satisfied with your tech in 2014 as well, Bren!

Nice.. I love tech. I didn’t got any new device but I got many things and knowledge about tech this year!

Hi Lilesh, That’s great, if you’re satisfied with the tech you have, no need to upgrade. Knowledge might be even better to get than the tech itself.

Hi Carolyn – I just got my Kindle this year, and that’s enough for me. It’s the steep learning curve I find difficult to cope with whenever I get any new tech – it’s so time-consuming. I still don’t know how to work tons of stuff on my android!

    Happy New Year to you!

The only new tech I got in 2013 that I now can’t do without is a GPS watch for training. How did I ever go on those runs and rides without it!!

The rest of things I got, weren’t all that new. I have a very, very old cellphone and I wished for something a little more modern, and techie. So it turns out my dad got himself a new phone for his birthday and I inherited his old smartphone. Not the latest but compared to what I had, such an upgrade! I am quite happy with it, it’s the first smartphone I have ever had.

One day when I can afford it, I will definitely upgrade my phone and laptop to more modern, powerful ones.

Hi Pau, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! A GPS watch sounds very cool. Yes, getting a new smartphone rather than your dad’s old one would have been good but maybe 2014 will give you what you want.

    Hi Carolyn,

I’m catching up on reading blog posts and email today. My tech buys were a Nikon D3200 and a Samsung Galaxy S2; unless you want to count the freezer, Philips air fryer and the vacuum cleaner… I got a set top box for free, but had to buy connection things to connect it to my router. I still don’t watch TV!

Carolyn. Good question! From a tech point of view, my year comprised of just a faster laptop computer and a ‘smarter’ smartphone, This made a big difference with my business and mobility when visiting customers. It is only at the start of 2014 and I’m tempted by a latest tablet already. I just found out recently that there is a set top box that you can convert your TV into a Smart TV using WIFI, so this is something I may get. Had look at the smartwatches and they seem a bit too bulky at the moment. Hope this helps, thanks. Nick

Hi Nick, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! Sounds as if you made some wise upgrade decisions for 2014 that significantly improved your business capabilities. You’re right, tech can be enticing, the latest and greatest always beckons us. The key becomes whether deciding when an upgrade is significant enough to justify the cost.

I hope 2014 brings you the best tech for your needs, Nick.

Hy Carolyn, I didn’t get any new gadgets this year just don’t have so much money to spend. Though I would love to have a tablet so we can surf on the couch and not have to sit behind the laptop all the time. I am also thinking about a smart TV those are popping up like mushrooms in the Netherlands these days. I wonder if we realy will move from the pc/laptop era to the living room? Also cool are the smart household equipment like a fridge telling you are out of milk. Or the robotic vacuum cleaners that tend to get better each year. I have tried one of those, but for a dog that loses a lot of hair it didn’t stand the challenge…

Hi Ferdi, Yes, once you have a tablet you wonder how you existed without one. Smart TV’s are great, but you can get a set top box such as a Roku or Apple TV instead of a smart TV and save yourself a lot of money.

Robot vacuum cleaners are very entertaining. They may not be your exclusive method of keeping the floors clean but they can help maintain the floors between more thorough vacuuming runs.
