If you’re thinking of getting a new iPhone and switching from Android (or vice versa), but don’t want the hassle of moving your contacts, photos, music, videos, etc. you may have just found a solution to your problem. There’s an easy way to move your stuff from one type of phone (or tablet) to another.
Getting a new phone may remind you of the excitement you felt as a kid the first time you got a new bike (or other favorite toy). We may be thrilled at checking out the new features and discovering all the things the phone can do.
But the downside of getting a new phone is transferring your stuff. If you’re switching phones, you may cringe when you think of all that’s involved in getting your data from your current phone onto your new phone. All of your contacts, photos, apps, text messages, call logs, apps and more reside on your old phone. Getting them onto your new phone can be a challenge.
MobileTrans is new software from a company called Wondershare that can make that task much easier. With this software you can: get your stuff from one phone to another without hassles. You can also use it to:
- transfer your data from one phone or tablet to another
- back up and restore the data on your phone/tablet in case it breaks or becomes lost or stolen
- erase the data from your phone/tablet before you sell it
What You Can Transfer
MobileTrans works with iPhone, Android and Symbian phones. That’s right, if you have an old Symbian phone that has information you’d like to move to your current phone, you can use MobileTrans to accomplish that task easily.
While MobileTrans doesn’t support BlackBerry phones directly, you can still use the software to restore backup files from your BlackBerry phone. Check out the WonderShare BlackBerry page for more information on BlackBerry.
Note that not all iPhone, Android and Symbian phones are compatible with MobileTrans. Check out the MobileTrans website for a full list of compatible phones. Also, you can get a free trial copy of the software to be sure that it works with your phone.
Using MobileTrans you can transfer:
- Contacts
- Calendar
- Text messages
- Photos
- Videos
- Music
- Apps
- Call logs
Not all data can be transferred between devices using MobileTrans. This chart shows you what types of data you can transfer between which devices:
The software is available for Windows and Mac computers and works with the new iOS 8, scheduled to be released next week on September 17.
Using MobileTrans to Transfer Your Stuff Between Phones
To use MobileTrans, go to the Wondershare website to download the software onto your computer, then connect the two devices to your computer.
Note that both phones must be connected at the same time, you can’t download the files from one phone and then connect your new phone at a later time. So if you’re planning to use MobileTrans, be sure not to sell your old phone before you get your new one.
You’ll see a window pop up with choices of what you can do. Choose Phone to Phone transfer. Note that this works with both phones and tablets.
A window pops up showing the two devices. You choose which information to transfer and which device is the source and which is the destination. Then click Start Copy.
Within a few minutes your data will be copied from one device and added to the other device. You can then disconnect the devices.
With Android phones you have to take an extra step to debug your phone. This video from Wondershare walks you through the process:
My Test
Wondershare provided me with a full license for the software so I could test it for this review. I decided to test MobileTrans by transferring my contacts from my iPhone to my iPad. I never bothered to put my contacts on my iPad and this seemed like the perfect time to get that task done.
I opened MobileTrans on my Mac and connected both my iPhone 5s and my iPad Air to my computer. The software recognized them instantly but detected the iPad as the Source and the iPhone as the destination. I clicked the Flip button and switched the two easily.
The software then found my photos, videos, music, contacts, apps, text messages and call logs. I checked Contacts and then clicked the Start Copy button. MobileTrans sped through my contacts list and in about 3 minutes my 1775 contacts were copied to my iPad. (Note to self: start purging!).
After the job was done, I checked my iPad and found that the Contacts from my iPhone had indeed copied to my iPad.
Best When Used By
MobileTrans is most useful when you are switching between phones with different operating systems or switching from Android to Android and don’t have your contacts, photos, music and other data in the Cloud.
[note] If you’re switching phones from iPhone to iPhone or want to move your information from iPhone to iPad, as I did in my test of MobileTrans, you can use iTunes to sync your information. Yes, you can use MobileTrans for that, and it does make the task very easy, but iTunes is free. [/note]
Availability
You can try out MobileTrans for free with a trial version of the software that allows you to transfer five contacts between devices. You can see whether you like using the software and make sure it works with your devices.
The full version of the license costs $19.95 for one year and $39.95 for a lifetime.
Your Thoughts
Have you ever heard of MobileTrans? Have you ever hesitated to switch phones because you didn’t want to have to deal with transferring your stuff? Have you ever lost any contacts, photos, music, etc. because the transfer didn’t go well when you tried to do it yourself? Let us know in the Comments section below!

I used to use a similar product called CopyTrans but it only worked on ipods and ipads. This looks really great.

Hi Carolyn,
I have never heard of MobileTrans before. It looks really good and even though, at the moment, I won’t be switching to anything but an iPhone 6+, I’d be using MobileTrans for sure.
I probably won’t switch to a new iPhone anytime soon. I’m still very satisfied with my iPhone 5S, but I have been watching pictures and video of the iPhone 6 over and over again ๐
Carolyn Nicander Mohr says
Hi Jens, Yes, if you’re going to switch from your iPhone 5s to an iPhone 6 Plus, you only need to use iTunes. That can sync all of your information for free. I used my two iDevices because I didn’t have a compatible Android device to test out MobileTrans.

Hi Carolyn,
Owh… I wish if you had written this post two weeks ago dear ๐
A friend of mine wanted to sell his iPhone 4S and switch to an Android device. Beforehand, he needed his data backed up including all the messages which doesn’t stored in iCloud. I wouldn’t mind losing messages, but he wanted his so badly. Nothing left to do and I couldn’t get hold of the iPhone to try possible workarounds either. Hence he had to do it by himself. Then I had to login to his iCloud to export and sync his contacts with his Google account for him. Guess how easier it was if he knew about this software.
When switching from Android to Android, using an app like TitaniumBackup ($5.99) takes care of all the apps + data while contacts, notes etc. can be synced to the cloud for free. But when switching from iOS to Android, that’s where I find this software may come in handy. Only if someone needs to preserve their Call logs and Messages intact. However, for those who are on Symbian OS, this could be a MUST HAVE.
Now I’m glad to learn about this software and appreciate testing it between two devices too ๐ I’ve been to their website and seems they support so many device models. But, as you mentioned, the downside is that we have to connect both devices to transfer the data. May be they will figure out a way later which doesn’t need both devices to be connected simultaneously? That would be awesome.
You have a wonderful week ahead, Carolyn ๐
Cheers…

Hi Mayura, I wish this article were more timely for you and your friend but now you know about MobileTrans for the future. Thanks for letting us know about Titanium Backup Pro. That looks like a good tool for Android to Android transfers for more advanced users.
You’re right, people should look at what they need and the compatibility requirements before using any transfer software/app.
Connecting both devices is a requirement of MobileTrans, which has the advantage of making the transfer fast and easy. Because you don’t have to download the data to your computer or the Cloud first before transferring it, the transfer is extremely fast.
Wonderful to see you back here, Mayura. Thanks for stopping by and offering your helpful suggestons!

Hi Aditya, Yes, many people hesitate to switch phones because they don’t want to lose their contacts, photos, etc. But MobileTrans does that task quickly and easily. I was very impressed at how easy and fast the process was. I’m glad you’re checking out the trial version to see how easy it is, Aditya!

Hi Carolyn,
You have solved the problem of many people are afraid of losing their data.
Most of people lose their data, contacts from their old phone when they get any new phone because they don’t know about such type of software which can transfer their data from old phone to new one.
I am glad that with use of MobileTrans people can have their data safe.
Thanks for the share.:)
Have a great week.

Hi Ravi, You’re right. I just spoke with someone this week who still have a flip phone because they didn’t want to lose their contacts when moving to a smartphone. They really wanted a smartphone though so they will probably make the leap. Waiting only makes the situation worse. I know that MobileTrans doesn’t work with flip phones but once they make the leap they won’t have to worry about switching phones again and losing their contacts.
