Update => Word Streak is now called Boggle. The game is the same and still plenty of fun!
If you’re looking for a fast-paced word game, check out Word Streak, a word puzzle game you play against others online. In just a few minutes you can have a lot of fun and maybe learn some new words!
Fans of word games such as Scrabble, Words with Friends, and Boggle will enjoy Word Streak, a fast and fun game from Zynga. As with other Zynga games you connect with Facebook to challenge your friends or find other players who are interested in competing against you.
Playing Word Streak
Word Streak is easy to learn so the fun can begin quickly! Play Word Streak by swiping your finger along adjoining tiles to form words on a 4×4 grid. You can move up, down across or diagonally but you can’t use the same tile twice in a word.
You earn points based on the length of the words you form and the value of the letters you use. Like Scrabble, Word Streak gives you extra points for using rare letters such as Q (which comes complete with its partner U), Z, X, etc.
You have two minutes to find as many words as possible. Speed counts so try to find as many words as possible within the time limit.
Word Streak has four different modes of play so you can choose your favorite method of having fun! Check out Head-to-Head, Tournaments, Daily Challenge and Solo Play.
1. Head-to-Head Challenges
After you download the app and connect your Facebook account, tap Create Game to start playing Head-to-Head Challenges. You can challenge your Facebook friends or use Smart Match to have the app find someone new.
Each game has three rounds with you and your opponent taking turns. The first round is where speed counts the most because you have no bonus tiles. Rounds two and three add bonus tiles: Double and triple letter and word bonus tiles. Round 3 has the most valuable bonus tiles and gives you chance to score the most points!
You can pause a game by tapping the pause button or closing the app. Come back later to finish the round.
=> Tip: Use the Quordy app to practice your Word Streak skills!
Chat with your opponents by tapping the bubble in the upper right corner of the screen.
2. Tournaments – Real-Time Fun
If you want intense fun, check out the Word Streak tournaments which pit eight players against each other in a real-time competition. You’re paired with challengers in a three-round draw.
When the draw is filled with players the round begins. You’re shown your opponent’s stats, then you decide how many Power Ups to use for the round (see below for more info on using Power Ups).
Each round is two minutes, no pausing allowed. After you and your opponent finish the round the winner goes on to the next round. Win all three rounds and you’re the tournament champion, earning you prizes.
=> Tip: Tournaments can be an excellent resource for finding new opponents. If you have a close round with someone, invite them to play you in Head-to-Head challenges!
3. Daily Challenge
Every day Word Streak gives you a new Daily Challenge to help you develop your skills. Each challenge gives you a goal to reach. Daily Challenges may have holiday themes or speed challenges.
Achieving goals in the Daily Challenge earns you a prize such as tickets, coins or Power Ups. Complete five Daily Challenges in a row to win a bigger prize!
4. Solo Play
If you want to practice your Word Streak skills or have fun on your own, check out the Solo Play feature where you play against Coach instead of a person. Coach plays instantly so you don’t have to wait for your opponent to take their turn. Tap Create Game and choose Solo Play to try to beat Coach.
Power Ups
You can use Power Ups and Mega Power Ups to gain an advantage in each round of play. The first Power Up is free, the second costs one coin and the costs three coins (more on coins below). You can use a maximum of three Power Ups and two Mega Power Ups per round.
From Zynga:
- Freeze stops the clock. Sometimes you just need a moment to chill!
- Inspiration highlights a word you haven’t found yet (3 uses).
- Spin shakes up the board. It helps to get a new perspective on things (3 uses).
- Vision presents you with an assortment of unfound words. Just look into the crystal ball!
- Mega Freeze gives you 60 seconds of extra play time per round.
- Mega Inspire guides to to 8 of the BEST words that you haven’t found yet.
Coins
Word Streak gives you 15 coins and feeds your supply over time. You earn one coin every 10 minutes so filling up your empty reserve takes 150 minutes (2 1/2 hours).
You can buy coins but you don’t have to so long as you’re patient and don’t have too many games going at once.
Coins can be used to:
- Play games (one coin each)
- Use Power Ups (first is free, second is one coin, third is three coins)
- Use Mega Power Ups
Tickets
Tickets are used to play tournament rounds and for Power Ups used in the tournaments. Each day you can spin the Daily Spinner to win more tickets. You also earn tickets by finishing first or second in a tournament.

Hi Carolyn! interesting post. I m myself is a word game lover and scrabble has been my most favorite by far. I ll surely give a try to word streak and I hope its as good and interesting. Although Zynga has been a market leader for a long time in online games and I can simply put a great anticipation out here. Cheers.

Hi Ovais, Yes, if you like Scrabble, you’ll really enjoy Word Streak. With Scrabble you can develop your vocabulary for high scoring words and use them quickly in Word Streak. You don’t have a long time to contemplate each word in Word Streak so having a background in Scrabble will come in very handy.
Enjoy Word Streak, Ovais!

Hi Carolyn,
I might have a go at this on my phone. I see a word I don’t recognise online, I always check out the meaning and etymology. I get a bit obsessed with words so I might be good at this!

Hi Mike, Yes, I think you’d really enjoy this game. Fans of words will have fun playing this fast-paced game. I like it better than Words with Friends or Scrabble because the game is over quickly so you don’t have to spend a long time considering each word.
